I haven't heard anything about it. Isn't BD Live more or less dying off? I thought a lot of companies aren't really using it as much anymore. I believe that Disney hasn't used it for quite a while now.

I've never been a fan of it, myself. I don't like the idea of virtual features that aren't actually on the disc that can be removed at any time. If the features are worth while, then just put them on a disc to begin with.

yeah, BD Live is a joke- they realized people will double dip - look at the walking dead double dip- they could have been nice to the fans and BD Lived the new content but there is too much money in it otherwise

That distinction alone would make it easier to do what he did if we were in a blind rage. At the moment of his rage he viewed them as animals.
I have no issue with that. The issue I have is 10 minutes later, Padme comes down and goes "Anakin, what's wrong?"

I thought Disney was using BD Live on "The Lion King" for the bulk of the old Platinum DVD features. Hopefully I'm mistaken.

yeah, yet another great feature of bluray (and the digital age) that no one really bothers to use. it is like dvd - a friend and i were talking yesterday about how little the angle function is used on dvds. it was this huge deal - see multiple angles of shots, great for concerts, etc - yet most movies don't use it. even when they want to show the evolution of a special effect, most companies make a little special out of it and show the storyboard, then a temp/test version then the final cut and skip the whole angle thing entirely. always funny to see how they push these things and then the studios don't even use them.

That Wal*Mart video is awesome! We may be able to watch the videos online, but when we see them on blu-ray it's gonna be breathtaking.

The words 'Jar-Jar' and 'Amazing' should never be used together in the same sentence. However, Sebulba looks good...lol

Do you know that CDs had the ability to have index markers from 1 to 99 for each track? The original idea was that you could easily navigate to movements within the same track on classical recordings. My first two CD players had the ability to navigate using indexes, but no recordings that I'm aware of actually made use of them.

Also, CDs had encoding built-in so that you could theoretically display the artist and track name the way that satellite radio does. IIRC, they were called the PQ subcodes or something like that. But no one ever made use of those either and once that database (forget the name) was developed that matched the table of contents of a CD to come up with the track names, it was no longer necessary, although no standalone CD player that I'm aware of ever made use of it.

What you have to realize is that things like "multiple angles" are designed by engineers, but to actually incorporate that data into a DVD/BD would require going back to all the original footage, re-synching it to the current film and providing another angle. And for what? The director has already chosen the shot that best sets up the emotion that he/she is trying to present. And being a different take (since movies are generally shot with one camera), it might not synch up anyway. The only time I could see this working well is for sports documentaries.

DVD's have the same thing I think if you push the time/text button on your DVD player the name of some titles come up. I think Spider-man was labelled this way (so maybe it was Columbia/SONY that labelled their DVD's. I guess it went out of fashion when budget players stopped having displays on the front of their machines.

At the end of the day multi-angle stuff is never that interesting, although it's never been used to it's fullest effect with the mainstream video industry. It would be pretty cool to move between a long shot and a close-up on some of our favourite films or finished effects or greencreen work (I thought something like Sin City would have had this) but if the quality has to be the same only some scenes would fit on a Blu-ray. It would still be fun though.

Rick McCallum actually discussed plans (that obviously never came to fruition) about using the angle button so you could switch back and forth between different versions of the prequels (finished, greenscreen, animatic, etc.)

I've always been disappointed that this never happened. Seems like a *really* cool idea.

There's actually a surprising amount of CDs that I own which use this feature. My cheap Panasonic home theater in a box can display the artist and track names when I put a CD in the DVD player. I remember when I first noticed it I started putting in my CDs one by one to see which ones had it.

Multi-angle is used to great effect on porn DVDs... or so I've heard...

Having watched the Walmart exclusive video, I'm starting to think we're not going to be getting that many changes or any at all when it comes to the Prequels.

Image-wise, you can tell Episode I has gotten the full face lift. Even at that resolution, you can see it's been cleaned up considerably compared to the DVD image.

And for '99, the visual effects still hold up very, very well.
