I use netflix, and they don't always allow renting of the bonus disc. I'm sure somebody will upload the scenes to youtube, but they'll probably get taken down.

Why not get the complete saga? Get all the stuff, no need to rent/stream.

Well to my knowledge neither netflix or blockbuster have the LOTR EE release
available for rental, so I doubt they'll have this release available.

Just cancelled my US order and gone with the UK one.

Having relocated to Singapore where blu rays are approx $40 USD (25 pounds) minimum for new titles I order all my disks, new or used, from Amazon. And because my Oppo is multi-region I flick between the US and UK site.

UK site takes about a week to deliver here with standard shipping and I'm not paying tax so my new Complete Saga with disc art and "preferred" packaging cost me 59 Pounds (about $75 I think) including delivery and should be with me by the 19th Sept, just in time to have read all the reviews and be prepared for the wow factor or disappointment!

Sorry to discuss the discs themselves

Okay, so a couple of questions...

I'm assuming the pic there is of the Denmark set, and if so, it seems to have similar packaging and disc art as the UK set.

Does Denmark have the ratings logos all over the packaging and discs like the UK set does? Because I really hate those things.

And, where can this be imported from any how much would it roughly cost to do so?

I may consider getting this instead of the US version if the price is right and if the ratings logo thing isn't an issue.

I bought both the US version and the limited edition UK tin version of the Back to the Future Trilogy on Blu-Ray. I live in the US. What does that make me?

The most ironic part about it is that the UK versions have this little message that comes up each time you put the disc in that says, "By purchasing this Blu-Ray disc, you are supporting your local film and television industry. THANK YOU!" That whole message is just very confusing because it is an imported set (thus not local in that sense), but the movies were made in the USA by a US film company. Who the hell am I supporting?!

Just a thought, but do you think the blu ray will operate a MUTHR mode like the Alien boxset?

It seems that the bonus feature videos we have been seeing to date have extended film scenes tacked on to the end that do not appear on the early access app videos. Could it be that while you are watching the film, you can bookmark special feature videos explaining what was happening on screen at that point, which will load when you insert the relevant special features disc.

It worked very well on the Alien boxset, and as it is the same publisher, could this be a little surprise in the waiting?

One thing that always bothered me, and hope is fixed, is the choppy editing on the Obi-Wan/Jango Fett fight on Kamino. If you look at the trailer at around the 1 minute mark, that scene never existed in the film (Obi spinning and deflecting shots) and it noticed with the scene seeming very disjointed. Also, it made the Obi Wan character seem a bit more badass and an expert with the lightsabre. Hopefully it will be added back in alongside the headbutt, but probably be included on the extended scenes disc.

Interesting that the pack shots on Amazon etc have the rating of the set in the UK as 12 but they still quote waiting for classification, as do all other online outlets in the UK. Nothing still on the BBFC or Irish classification board websites.. Also, the only disc you want to see the rating on (AOTC) is always obscured in pictures. We can only hope.

From Digital Bits:

Sony has officially announced that The Guns of Navarone: 50th Anniversary Edition Blu-ray (due on 10/18) features an extensive 4K digital restoration from the original camera negative! That's the same process Sony used for Dr. Strangelove, The Bridge on the River Kwai and Taxi Driver.

Interesting that Sony don't have an issue with restoring an old film with lets face it, limited sales potential. It seems as though it might not be as an expensive process as Mr.Lucas keeps harping on about. Also, imagine how many copies of this Blu ray are going to be sold worldwide in comparison. It is a guaranteed gold rush. If I was a betting man, I would have been confident that the cost of restoring the UOT would have been dramatically outweighed by the amount of additional boxsets sold as a DIRECT result of including them in the saga package only. I guess it will come eventually with seamless branching when the Star Wars cash cow is starting to topple over again.

Interesting that the exclusive Blu-Ray trailer featured mostly Original Trilogy footage and that the Panasonic deal where you buy a TV or home system you get a free copy of the original Trilogy Blu-ray set. I guess they know that it's the original trilogy that is going to sell this set and also the best one to market their TV's

I don't doubt in the least that a separate UOT release would more than recoup its restoration and distribution costs but I seriously doubt adding it to this saga release would have made much fiscal sense.

This is going to be a huge release but money is still tight and jacking the street price of the saga another thirty or more dollars would almost certainly cause a net loss of sales.

If they have any intention of ever releasing a restore UOT then a separate release (digibooks, anyone?) seems like the only realistic way to go.

There is no way to do seamless branching on it. Too many changes.

More interesting were the comments made. Looks like some people are off the Lucasfilm script (Robert Watts) when it comes to the special editions and especially the 3D releases of the future.

It could also mean they already have in place a deal to bundle TPM-3D with Panasonic hardware down the road. If that's the case it would make sense to steer away from bundling PT films now.

Why do you say that? They can easily have two films running side by side on a 50GB disc and flip between them. The changes made in the special edition weren't that comprehensive, a few scenes here and there that can be replaced by the original footage. The only issue would come from colour matching which hopefully has gone some way to being fixed in this release.

True, when you look at it like that it makes sense, but would your average Joe punter care enough to buy it? Even I would have to look closely to see if it would be a worthwhile purchase. Are there enough Star Wars fans willing to buy it as opposed to the mass appeal of the current release? Perhaps the only way it makes Fiscal sense is to do it now, or let the distributor fund the cost of it at a much later date when they need to milk it a bit more.

Interesting that no mention has been made of the trailers being included on the set. It would be a big omission if they are not on there!

My favourite trailer had to be TPM, I remember the chills it gave me when I first heard the score again on a new star wars film. Really good trailer for what turned out to be an ok film.
