Star Wars: The Complete Saga (1977-2005)

There's DVD-R rips of the original 1978 TV broadcast on the internet, and while the picture/audio quality is as good as can be expected considering its provenance, the program sucked. I mean really sucked. Having Jar Jar in it would've been an improvement, that's how much it sucks. It's a combination of a bad late '70s variety show with terrible writing (worse than the prequels), the Star Wars actors that did show up were seemingly on drugs (especially Carrie Fisher), and the premise was terrible. The only salvagable part is the animated sections, which strangely enough was the debut of Bobba Fett.

All that being said, since the only way to get it is off "unofficial sources" and will never be released by Lucas, might as well get it. It's cheap as free, after all.

I never bought the DVD versions, but am a fan of bonus features that I now learn have not been brought over to the BD release. The DVD trilogy sets were on sale as recently as last month at my Costco warehouse. Now they have disappeared on Canadian Best Buy, Future Shop and Amazon sites. What's going on?

It shocks me that the 2004 releases would be pulled. There are no doubt a ton of people that would want the 2004 editions still. I don't know any company that doesn't want to make money. Pull them so people can't give you money to buy them? Brilliant!

I'm sure the aim is to try and get people to suck it up and buy the Blu-rays, but there are people that will refuse to do so and they still may have bought the old DVDs.

Makes me very happy that I own the 2004 dvds and Lucas can't do anything about me having non-NOOOOOOOOOO editions.

Same here. I own every version so far: Original Theatrical Version (from the 2006 LE DVD), 1997 Special Edition VHS, 2004 DVD Edition (from the 2006 LE DVD). But I actually lost my TESB '97 Special Edition VHS, so I picked this baby up at ebay today for only 1€.

But at this point, I think I'm kinda happy having anything Lucas doesn't want me to have.

Yes, Star Wars is a B film with a A budget. It's sci-fi pulp, nothing more. Even Lucas admits his biggest influences were the old Flash Gordon serials... serials were always B class entertainment, but entertaining for sure.

I was a big fan as a kid like everyone, but then I grew up and moved on to adult-themed films with substance. Sorry if you think I'm someone else, or don't believe where I live or what I do. But it's really no skin off my back either way. You've only been a member since Sept 2011? Isnt the month only 3 days old? Who's account are you apeing?
