lol. They had to destroy alderan then didn't they

Seen ANH now,and I must agree with those that says that there are some strange things in the picture at certain scenes.Like a halo of some sort round characters-think it is in effectshots.I predict the PQ to be round 4/5 here on this site.Audio was good, but don't know if it's the source or the transfer that makes it less than perfect...

I would rate it:

PQ:4/5 (maybe 4.5,but certain scenes distracts from perfect score)
AQ:4.5/5(very good, but not great.Maybe my setup is to blame...)

Only got the OT,and that packaging was somewhat cheap.Maybe like me then

You must be kidding. What would be the reason for cold green light on a desert planet, where tons of dust particles from sandstorms in the air would make the sunset red/orange and warm like in the first shot? Not to mention that the teal image is darker, lacks contrast and in general looks more flat than the original coloured one.

Please read up on what the anamorphic feature actually did for DVDs before you complain about its absence in the Blu-ray specs.

But in short: it's not part of Blu-ray because it doesn't need to be.

Whaaaaaat?! Okay! That's it! I'm going return my set! The Death Star shot first, it's defining its character!!! Damn you, Lucas!

I wonder how long it will be left online...
If what he says it's true about the PQ, it seems like a letdown.

8/10 seems awfully high based on the criticisms he had.

Probably not 'expert' enough for some though
Nice to finally see something positive about this featurette, maybe once people see it they'll quit complaining.

Star Warriors (480p, 84 mins)

This feature looks at fans from around the world, who dress up as their favourite characters in their spare time. It’s an entertaining and affectionate look at the pastime, focusing on a number of individuals as they prepare to take part in the Rose Bowl parade, and wait in anticipation to see if their auditions were successful. It also takes a look at the charity work that these fans carry out, and the positive effect they have on people. Fascinating and touching at times, this is one of the discs' highlights.

I've been watching this thread "with great interest" (see what I did there), and I've finally decided to go with the Original Trilogy.

$30 at ToysRUs.com with a FREE R2-D2 USB Drive? TAKE MY MONEY, LUCAS!

I'll use the money I saved NOT buying the Prequel Trilogy to buy another, BETTER fantasy saga... the Lord of the Rings: Extended Edition

The OT is $29.99 at TRU. I am pretty sure you will have to buy another star wars item to qualify for the free R2-D2 usb drive.

Let me say that I won't be the first. International customers usually only get "Shipping Soon" status one day before release and ships later that afternoon.

My first impressions...

PQ and AQ are a massive leap across the board from the DVD. The changes don't jar as much as I had feared they would.

However the sabers in the Falcon training scene look terrible...almost pre-vis terrible (you can see the rotoscoping! how is this supposed to match the other episodes or PT!) and this is an unforgiveable mistake or oversight by ILM. I cannot believe that either someone didn't notice this or that it was a deliberate creative decision.

The bonus materials on discs 7 and 8 are underwhelming to say the least. There is nothing here that will warrant much in the way of repeat viewing. The deleted scenes for the PT are either too short lasting only seconds or atrocious in their roughness. Why these weren't finished I don't know.

The spoofs...some are funny most are not...again I'll not be watching these twice.

The quality of some of the docs are like watching videotape. Very poor.

The way they initially pitched this set was that they would throw everything into it. But they didn't, there is no comparing this set to something like Alien Anthology where they gave you everything even if you already had it on DVD. It felt though that you were getting very good value for money. Leaving the DVD special features of was such a mistake as there isn't anything of the quality of the docs put on the DVD's in this set.

But buying the set is worth it for the upgrade in picture quality alone so overall I am a happy camper.

See that's the problem. I'm pretty much at the point where I don't care at all about the movies anymore. Lucas has ruined them for me. But I always wanted those deleted scenes and I figured all along most of the DVD extras(particularly the important ones like the prequel deleted scenes and documentaries such as The Beginning and Empire of Dreams) would be ported over. So it made sense to pick up this set and ditch the DVDs. Well, at least the prequel DVDs. I'd hang onto the 2006 Holy Trilogy releases since the original versions were on there.

But now it sounds like some major issues like the lightsaber gaffes weren't fixed. Additional annoying changes were made. The transfers are recycled from 2004. None of the extras from the DVD were ported over. The extras that are included are underwhelming. And the deleted scenes are mostly ho-hum and incomplete in terms of FX(even the prequel ones).

Unless Lucas is in fact planning some sort of super duper ultimate set a few years from now that'll include the 3D versions along with (I hope)every other version of these films in existence and that's when he'll give us a comprehensive collection of supplements along with brand-spanking new transfers, I don't see why this release was half-assed in this manner.

So you're gonna turn this thread to the dark side now?

The UK folks are busy looking for the best deal. I guess after a few days we'll get more reviews from them.

They had years to make this set amazing and yet half assed is the perfect word for the end result of their efforts on the special features. I mean realistically what is the repeat value of the turnarounds and pre vis deleted scenes...none! Compared to the DVD special features which I still love to dip into even to this day. I am so glad I kept them, If I want to know how each film was made I will put the DVD's on...but I shouldn't have to when all other studios put the DVD special features on their sets as well as new features in HD. Where are the new docs? None... we get spoofs and grown men dressing up as Jedi!

But like I said the picture quality of the movies is such a leap forward that it's worth getting it for that alone.
