I had an lcd with the same problem. I went with a plasma that has the thx setting. it works so wonderful with the PQ. its a night and day difference. you will probably be happy with a plasma.

Awesome, I'll see about getting it imported. It's going for about £25 here, but can get it for £15 if I can get it imported.

Let's be honest here... the hype wagon can be a fun ride but I would hope the line is drawn with George Lucas and Star Wars.

Your 70 bucks would be much better spent on the Battles Galactica complete collection. Better acting, story telling and just an all around better product.
That's nothing more than your opinion. Just because others enjoy something you don't doesn't make them "delusional". I saw 4, 5 & 6 in 1997 (when there were already plenty of sci-fi films around) and I thought they were great. And I still do.

When the time comes... get one with THX Mode

Just switch the mode on when you're watching a THX certified movie = MAGIC

It works very well for almost any movie.

I remember spending about a half an hour trying to get the colours right for ESB, I would get the sabers looking good, but then hoth would be cyan, then I would get Hoth slightly blue and Bespin would look purplish instead of orange...

Then I remembered THX mode, switched it on and didn't have to do any tweaking with the default settings

It wasn't a deal breaker when we were looking at plasma TVs, but now I wouldn't buy one without it. Plus the TV can automatically adjust the brightness depending on ambient light in the room.

Well, I'm leaning towards my set being the issue. But then again I won't know until I use a better tool than the free THX one.

And I won't be upgrading until next year at the earliest. Anyone know if this is any good compared to the other one?

The first review I've seen, and it's...not so positive. No surprise given Lucasfilm just colored over existing 1080p masters.

Sweet! I'm hoping come next year, 50"+ Plasmas will be down to around the £400-£500 price range. You can get 50" 3DTV Plasmas for about £550 - £650 now, but there not the best of sets. So fingers crossed for next year.

I hear ya Blu! I share your excitement and anticipation this Friday! I was 14 when Star Wars premiered in 77, biked or walked 3 miles to the Tri State Mall in Claymont DE for an afternoon matinee once or twice a week that entire summer! This was followed by endless listening of the 2 record LP soundtrack! Drove my mother insane!

In spite of all the tweaks and changes Luke's taking in the Tatooine sunset to John Williams score still remains an iconic moment in Ep IV, moving and emotionally stirring!

I envy your having seen it at a Drive In!! Thx for sharing!!!

Good luck (no sarcasm )

We paid around £650-700 for our TV after taxes (converting from Canadian Dollars). But the TV was on sale for about $150 less than the regular price, so it would have normally been almost £800 after tax.

Not into 3D at all. We could have gotten a 3D plasma for about 3/4 of what we paid, but as you said, they aren't the best. It's 3D on a budget, and nothing more. Cheaper sets can get you better 2D picture quality.

The Panny we ended up going with blew just about all of the 3D sets out of the water in terms of 2D PQ.

There we go again with the old "Sheep" stuff again. Who cares anymore if they are thought to be a sheep or not? If you don't wanna buy, don't buy. Why rip on others who do? Some SW fans can be the most anal-retentive types I have ever seen. Not that there is anything wrong with that, but the point on ripping on others, is what?

Hey Mavrick,

I've been skimming this thread a lot. I remember someone replying to you recommending the Spears & Munsil disc.

Honestly, the Spears & Munsil disc blows the DVE HD disc out of the water! I have both and much prefer the S & M disc. It's fantastic!

He knew how to tell a story. Are you seriously saying that A new hope and Empire strikes back (Lucas wrote it) is not good storytelling Maleku? He just lost it like many artists before him
