The free one . The thing is, some of us got the Buster Keaton Shorts in blu-ray earlier than release date, so I was hoping to get this set earlier. Again, can't complain for the $65.04 price. After all, they're just movies, and I'm still gonna get them.

EDIT: I purchased it from DD.

Default Film authorship?

I'd just like to add that the reason I have a problem with the endless alterations to episodes V and VI is simply that Lucas did not direct them. As far as episodes I, II, III, and IV, Lucas is unequivocally the author of those movies and he can do whatever he wants with them.

And while George may technically own all of the Star Wars movies, he did give Kersh and Marquand the freedom to make the movies that they did, within the constraints of script/time/place/money.

Of course, it's not unprecedented for producers to muck around with a movie after the director is done with it, but this almost always results in an inferior product.

And to make things even worse, both Kersh and Marquand have passed away, so they can not raise any concerns or objections to George's endless alterations. Not that Kersh or Marquand had a hand in approving the original changes to the special additions in the first place (to the best of my knowledge).

And yes, I know that he legally CAN do it. But by endlessly mucking around with "Empire" and "Jedi" without the approval of Kersh and Marquand, Lucas have proven himself to be as bad (or worse) than the studio system that he (and Coppola and Spielberg and others) set out to bypass in the first place.

In a revolution, those beneath are looking to replace the top.Think that was a window of opportunity which opened in the late 60's&70's which was quite unique in hollywoods history. But maybe it repeat itself if they keep on releasing bombs as it seems they are doing more often than in the past...

Didn't Marquand passed away shortly after finishing Episode VI?

You can watch them in reverse-order with a "Deuce Bigalow" intermission halfway between if you're so inclined but you're not going to convince anyone that its a valid order.
Forget it. They don't want to get it. They just blindly hate everything Lucas did after 1997 and they will never stop to dismiss and insult his work against any logic and common sense. Many people don't recognize the prequels as equal movies to the old ones or the saga to be watched in sequence. To them the trilogies aren't two equal pillars that stand side by side. They want to squeeze the PT in a marginal space as some kind of expanded universe afterbirth to the OT. Sadly they will never see the beautiful structure of the saga with all its references and mirror imagery. Just let go and be glad that you can actually enjoy the movies.

I read where George Lucas did discuss making changes to Empire with Kershner in the 90s and Kershner said OK, even though he had no idea what would be changed. Kershner did later say he was happy that not much was changed in the SE.

Lucas was not just the producer of episodes V and VI. He was the writer and quasi-director overseeing the whole saga. Additionally he didn't change the films - he just updated some technical aspects of which he and ILM was in charge anyway.

Who makes the decision that their local BB is staying open through midnight for this release? I would think it would be the same for all stores.

I kind of got the puzzled look when I asked at my local store a few days ago if they were staying open and now I'm not sure I was given a correct anaswer to tell the truth. I was told no but now I'm questioning that.

Any employees lurking on this thread?

You make it sound like people wanted the prequel trilogy to fail. Do you not remember the insane hype and starting the whole must camp outside for weeks to watch a movie first craze? People wanted it to suceed but the product was not as good.

Sadly that only really happens in Episode III. The branching to New Hope is very seamless and much better than I had anticipated for this film. I & II are just expanded universe rubbish. Lucas missed the boat again by choosing not to film The Clone Wars. There is no reason to have such a gap between II & III, when V & VI are relatively close in their timelines.

I have Amazon Prime, and I think they know that I get my 2-day shipments in 1 day. When I pre-ordered LOTR Extended, it shipped on Monday and I got it on Tuesday. I have a feeling Star Wars will ship out tomorrow...

Oh well, once I have it in hand on Friday, all will be forgotten...
