Puzzling is exactly right. Baffling is good too.

I wonder how many of the 'it didn't change the character at all' crowd think the altered scene actually looks better. For that matter, I wonder if GL thought it looked better.

Even taking into consideration the whole 'there's no accounting for taste' thing it's hard to imagine anybody thinking the altered scene looks better than the original.

(FTR, I don't have the discs but from what I've seen online the current altered version looks better than the previous altered version. It still doesn't look good, exactly, but it does seem better)

While the Jabba in ANH scene is wholly redundant and unnecessary, it doesn't make Han look like a "whinny biotch." If anything, Han walks (literally) all over Jabba.

No, that ship sailed with "Did you tell Luke? Is that who you could tell?".

It wasn't quite 'No, Padme, you hang up' bad but boy was it close.

Yeah, Boba's death is freaking painful. I disagree with your sentiment that it doesn't matter. But let's break from that and answer octagon's question- does it look better to you? Does it improve the scene? If not... why bother?

I agree. It looks better than the previous altered version- where Han moved very choppy and the whole scene seems to ... slow ... to... a ... crawl. It still messes with one of my favorite characters.

LOL, I liked that scene- he's a bit petulant, but he's not used to being wound around a girl's finger.

For as goofy as things get at times, seeing how different people respond to the same scene really is one of the more interesting things about this thread.

And to be fair to that scene, I thought Jedi was pretty awful overall so by that point I was already pretty inclined toward eye-rolling.

It's also interesting to watch a movie I watched as a kid and respond to scenes differently. Jedi was my favorite as a kid (now it's ESB). I always disliked the Ewoks but loved Luke's transition to a Jedi. That scene used to make me eye roll just as much as all the mushy kissy-kissy did at that age. Now that I'm married and settled down it's a bit different.

Though I still see Anakin and Padme's "banter" as bantha poodoo.

no he doesn't. It just shows "hey, look at that, Han Solo is talking to a dated CGI cartoon and watch how it doesn't fit together when he steps on the cartoon's tail to make it all seem like the real person and cartoon blends together smoothly." That's all I'm thinking.

There's a difference between the awful effects in that scene and the relationship at that moment between Han and Jabba it conveys

Jabba tells Han he's a dead man if he doesn't pay his debt. Han says, "Whatever, I just killed your bounty hunter. I'll walk over your tail and ignore you for now. Peace."

And no it doesn't make Greedo stupid because Jabba wanted him dead or alive.
It's not about him being a "badass." It's about him not being totally stupid.

If you can answer this question for me HONESTLY, I will promise to respect your opinion. But you have to be honest. In Japan we are all honest over here.

If you were in a life or death situation - a real one - a guy has a gun on you in a seedy place where you can expect no help - and you know you are about to die - YOU ARE GOING TO DIE - do you wait until the other guy fires first? At point blank range? Your answer should be quite interesting.

Default $100.00 to the first person to solve this problem - I'm not kidding.

I couldn't start a new thread so pass this around. I want to be able to edit MY own blu ray movies the way I want (please don't get all copyrighted on me). After removing the encryption, the files are either .iso or m2ts. Here's what I want to do and I've been spending days trying to figure it out. I want to import the blu ray files into a video editing program, edit them, and burn them back onto a blu ray disc with absolutely no loss of video or audio quality at all from the original movie. Any takers? If you win, you have my word, I'll send you the money and I never, ever break my word.

Mike

Oh, and one thing I will say. I quickly checked that scene out last night and I can honestly declare it is getting close to almost not making me batshit insane. You can almost ignore it now, because they almost virtually fire at almost the same time.

Yeah, but that was just one time. Like with Anakin and the sand people, temporary insanity.

Theres still no way he would miss. At that range, its not possible. You have to start playing mental gymnastics and create wild implausible reasons as to how and why Greedo would miss just to rationalize such a stupid change.

Not at all. If you look closely at Greedo's eyes, they are similar to a fly's eyes, so he is probably looking at like 50 Han's, and just picked the wrong one.

Still, have fun with all the tweens at the matinee showing. You can chat up all the moms in station wagons picking up their kids afterwards, I guess.
You're so cool Will your mom be there to pick you up after the show?

He neither missed nor hit in 1977, because he didn't shoot.
