Whelp, might as well post this.

http://savestarwars.com/lucas-nfr.html

In short, it turns out the Library of Congress never had an original print of SW. I guess the UOT is truly dead (almost).

to all the people that boycotted this release but ended up buying it anyway after a couple of weeks:

Darth Vader: Obi-Wan once thought as you do. You don't know the power of the Dark Side. I must obey my master.

Never felt so true.

That was really interesting. I've distanced myself from the Lucas bashing so far, but this site has really driven the issue home to me.

I really wonder what goes on in that big head of his.

Disrespecting the very thing that got you where you are today, I just cannot understand that.

He is a very bitter man so it seems

So it seems, but why? He's living in a bubble, he either has no one close to him who can say 'No, george, enough', or he's so stubborn it's unbelievable. He may own the films, fair enough, and yes, he can do what he like's, but that doesn't mean he should, he must know it's wrong, but clearly not. It's a classic case of power making one so isolated, they're not living in the real world anymore, to the point he's made an enemy of himself, and he just doesn't know it! It really is tragic, and makes me genuinely upset, as it seems the fight we are now engaged in is un-winnable, George is up there in his tower, corrupted by his own success. He's seems so obsessed with his creation, a lot more than the most ardent fan/geek, that it's now messed him up beyond redemption..... but George, there is still hope. But of course, you don't give a shit do you!

It makes perfect sense. The average reaction time of a human being is 1 second. That's how long it takes for the input from the senses to be processed in our brain. This means that you only realize what has happend one second after it actually did. Now, in this latest release Han and Greedo shoot almost at the same time, with Greedo shooting a fraction of a second sooner than Han. A fraction of a second. That means that Han shot Greedo before he even realized that Greedo had taken a shot at him as well. That in turn means that Han's intention was to shoot first, which leaves the character in its original form intact, even though he couldn't prevent being shot at in this version.

Just thinking, and yes, I know, I should steer clear of such activities!! But George Lucas should at least remaster and even release the UOT in honour of the sadly departed Directors, and not be so disrespectful to the point of almost hijacking there work, no, correction, actually hijacking their work.

I can honestly say that after I saw Revenge of the Sith, I liked Star Wars a little less and I didn't get that feeling after Phantom and Clones. I've watched RotS four or five times since (and started watching it a few dozen times) then and I guess I've come to terms with it but I hated it the first time I saw it. And it wasn't like anything was a shock I had read and enjoyed the two books before its release (the Art of and the Making of books).

Because of this, preserving the films became important in order to extend their viability and revenue earnings.

Prior to television, the majors pumped out product like an assembly line. In order to lure people into the theaters as often as possible, the majors had to maintain a pipeline of new product to those theaters. When your focus is always on today and next week, you don't spend a lot of time on the past. It is not surprising preservation efforts were rare among the major studios.

In fact, even the Disney crew of old used to celebrate the completion of a short by dumping the cels on the floor, and skating around the room on them. And then they washed the cels, and removed the paint.

Ok, has anyone watched the commentary track with ANH yet? There were a couple of interesting things that Lucas said.

First up Lucas says that the main character of ANH is Princess Leia. While I can see it, I have all ways thought that R2 and C3PO were the main characters.

"You've never heard of the Millennium Falcon? She's the ship that made the Kessel Run in less than 12 parsecs.

This famous line has been a major gripe by Star Wars fans because a parsec is a measurement of distance not time. Well, George goes on this 3 minute rant that what he meant distance the entire time. The millennium falcon has such a great navigation system that it can find the shortest route to any point in the galaxy, thus being faster than any other ship. So see, he was right after all!

Does anyone believe what he is shoveling????

He is right, the Kessel Run is an 18-parsec route, he managed to do it in 12-parsecs by moving closer to the black holes.

Here's more about the Kessel Run:

You can plot the shortest point in distance, but that has little to do with speed. If a car and an airplane moving at their normal speeds follow the same path from point A to point B, which will arrive at point B first?

Han was clearly talking about speed. Someone goofed thinking parsec was a measure of time. It's not a big deal, I always just assumed that parsecs were a measure of time in "Star Wars World". Never bothered me.

Are the dice still hanging from the roof of the cockpit of the Millennium Falcon on the new discs?
