Its a sin too because the EE version of KOH is one of Ridleys BEST efforts and I mean that. Its unfortunate that lots of people wont give it another chance though, you are right. They got burned already and wont risk it. Their loss.
I completely agree! When i watched Kingdom of Heaven in theaters (yeah i did it) i thought it was disjointed, dull and i just didn't care about what was going on. Sure it looked nice and the music is great, but beyond that it was pretty disappointing.

Now, the Director's Cut is an amazing film and the version that everyone should've seen! All the characters and subplots are fleshed out more and it just has an *epic* feel that the Theatrical Cut lacked... Come to think of it, KoH never got a full-fleshed "Special Edition" on Blu Ray - Get on it FOX!

This was one movie that got butchered during editing - Which is apparently the complete opposite of the first Star Wars film! (stayin on-topic )

He's probably been going to TPM 3D showings non-stop and using the downtime when his local theatre is closed to sleep/work.

I knew Hayden's acting was terrible, but when you have good actors like Ewan MacGregor, Christopher Lee, Natalie Portman, etc. and they're terrible too, you know it's the writing as well. I think they did the best with what they had, and were only ok, but Hayden Christiansen is just UNBEARABLE as Anakin, from his first line in the elevator with Obi-Wan. "You fell into that nightmare, master, and I got you out." PUKE. I've seen better acting on soap operas. The only redeeming thing about Clones is the battle at the end.
Well, there's a good reason Hayden is the only actor ever to win two Golden Raspberries for the same role (he won worst actor for Ep II and then again for Ep III.) It was one of the most consistently cringe-worthy acting performances, ever.

I think most people watched them the first time with rose-tinted glasses, wanting so desperately to love them because they're "Star Wars" films and the brand is beloved. They're just.. not very good movies, at all.

They're better than good! They're frakkin' awesome

In all honesty, I'd much rather watch the prequel trilogy than watch the turds that hollywood tries to pass off for best picture year in and year out.

I think he's been on the road constantly watching TPM 3D in theatres trying to boost it's box office numbers!

Anyway, we must all miss him. Arguments are no fun when everyone agrees with each other....

I saw him in Jumper and thought his acting was on par or worse than in Star Wars. The dude is so terrified/unable to show any emotion his default mode is wooden (and no, the ROTS crocodile tears don't count).

Hmmm, I wonder? Far be it for me to go out on a limb with this, but I have a sneaky suspicion that they will be the cinematic event of his life.

Star Wars will never have looked so good and the transfers into 3D will make Avatar, Hugo and Tron Legacy look like Jaws 3

I think he had a pretty good idea, generally speaking, where he might want to go with the story - but it all depended largely on whether or not the first movie was a hit or a box office bomb. So there may be some difference in recollections about just how much he really had jotted down in his famous yellow legal pad by 1976 or so, but the point I'm trying to get across is that the general outlines of how the story might play out (again, depending on whether he got to even make more than one movie) were mostly in his head already, from what I have read.

Me? I don't think it's even close.
Again, not mapped out in detail. As for "American Graffitti", I believe he generally has claimed credit for the story, but given all or much of the credit for the actual screenplay to Gloria Katz and Willard Huyck. I believe that's in one of the commentaries or the bonus features for the AG blu-ray.

And while I respect that you don't think it's even close... the fact remains his accomplishments with the SW saga, as measured both in popularity, pop culture influence, and also merchandising profits, completely dwarfs the success of "American Graffitti". I mean, that 1973 movie was definitely very, very profitable, because it cost so little to make.

So how you evaluate what someone has accomplished as a filmmaker, especially someone like Lucas who has been an independent filmmaker since he could afford to finance his own movies, can vary a bit depending on your point of view.

The fireplace scene? I think it's cute. I don't take it too seriously, and I don't think Lucas did, either. Or maybe he did, but in either case it didn't take away from my enjoyment of AOTC.

I wanna see these movies again in the Cinema.
I saw The Phantom Menace 8 times during its original run.
LOVED IT every time.
Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith were only once each.

A New Hope = 0
The Empire Strikes Back = 0
Return of the Jedi = 1

I love all 6 movies.
I want to know from as many people as possible how the "new" masters look up on the big screen.

I'm not looking to make fun of Beast, i find he and I have a lot of similar views in regards to the Republic Trilogy and the Empire Trilogy...

Episode 1 is soft, apart from a few shots. 3D effect was quite subtle, sometimes it worked (when you see the Gungan army for example) but falls flat in other scenes (the one where Obi, Qui and Jar Jar talk in the forest. They are in the foreground, but the forest doesn't have any depth, making it look as if they are in front of a matte painting).

More interested how Ep.2+3 look on the big screen, considering the complaining that they are only 1080p..

The forest scenes seemed to me to offer some of the best effects... especially when the STAPs come out, guns blazing...

The "matte painting" effect has more to do with camera focus then dimensionality. When you have the foreground in clear focus and the background very unfocused (called bokeh) there isn't much dimension in the background. Same thing happens if you are standing in the forrest and focusing on your finger right in front of your face.

I found the 3D to be exactly what it should be. Very natural looking. Still some people's idea of what 3D should be (jumping out of the screen constantly) will always taint their viewing. Irrational hate abounds in this thread.

That sums up my feelings, as well.

To me, a 3-D effect that constantly calls attention to itself is not going to enhance my viewing experience. If anything, it will distract me from the story. You can get away with a couple of standout shots, like the ping-pong ball thing in the 1953 version of "House of Wax". That scene always cracks up any audience watching it in 3-D.

I don't want 'IN YOUR FACE' 3D, but neither do I want a 3D presentation that, most of the time, looked flat as a pancake, as TPM 3D did to me.
