lol, a little early to make that call while the generations who grew up on Star Wars are in their 20s/30s/40s...
like all visual effects movies, SW is in danger of looking increasingly dated and unconvincing as technology progresses.

So are other movies that are classics, but they continue to prosper, I doubt they will ever fall of the face of the earth because kids think they look all fake, that's part of movie making and apart of history, you look back and think, "man that's how we did it back then?" Plus Star Wars helped shape how movies are made today, and without George Lucas's ideas, I think movie making would be a bit more behind than what it is today!! Just my opinion of course.

So you've never had something you thought was really great only to later look back on it and wonder why?

I love Star Wars and can't see a time where I wouldn't, but that's me.

Some people do move on after awhile for whatever reasons.

Lucas simply did what he believed was best to further his original idea of an all-encompassing narrative. Unlike most who create these worlds, he owns all the properties outright, which gives him much more freedom to do what he wants. If more filmmakers had such freedom, they'd probably try the same things as well.

Spielberg made changes to E.T. and later regretted it. Most filmmakers accept the limitations of technology or work to improve it to achieve their vision. That's what made Star Wars so great at the time. Lucas put things on screen never seen before and it made audiences drop their jaws in disbelief. It seems that now Lucas makes questionable changes. Some are great, like the changes made in Empire are awesome. The changes made in Jedi, not so much. He really has a hit and miss touch.

Some people simply learn better through trial and error. There's some aspects to the saga I don't like, but they're pretty small compared to everything else.

LOL that was fast. Posts that he's unsure about his love for the movies. Five hours later he's sold them.

I don't really watch SW on any kind of basis. Last year I revisited bits of the UOT on the eve of the blu-ray set, but I've always tried to avoid wearing out the movies. Plus, like you said, when you see different versions it's quite easy to get caught up in noticing the differences.

So, I just rely on my memories of the UOT.

That's exactly how I feel about "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang" when I watched it recently, I used to love it when I was a small kid.

Bit of topic.

Have you listened to "Yellow Submarine Songbook"? If you did, did you felel the same about those Beatles songs remixed as you do about the changes in Star Wars?

Be nice

Well, the thing is, SW doesn't live or die with its VFX, but with its story, and that one is timeless, so I strongly believe that SW will live on for a very, very long time.

That's what sets it apart from most other modern blockbusters.

SW are moral fantasy tales, that have great relevance in every day life.

In fact, I would go so far to say, SW are Buddhist tales wrapped in a science-fiction/fantasy packaging. That's why I love SW so much!

That's because Steven S. is desperate to please others, and since the changes caused a considerable backslash he took it back.

If someone would add a zit to the Mona Lisa, would it make a difference...?

I hope one day to watch Star Wars with my kids - but it will be the OT, and I don't plan to mention the PT at all. It was much more fun watching Vader as a real bad-ass. Not a candy-ass.

My daughter will be watching the OT on DVD when she's old enough. She can watch the PT when she's old enough to make her own mistakes.

There are MUCH better options than those DVD versions.

No it wasn't. I may not have posted my thoughts until I was almost sure of them, but my thoughts on the matter have been on going for years now. And I've had a buyer lined up for 6 months.

No, its because SS cares about his fans and doesn't surround himself with yes men and he cares about his original artwork unlike GL

Wise you are, BluYoda. I agree 100%. The Star Wars story is one to be remembered. Thats why it has staying power. You can tell this is true because the story would work in ANY setting: Medieval, Way in the future, somewhere in Beverly Hills, etc, etc. Ultimately, its the characters and the redemption of Anakin that keeps me coming back. Sure, the PT has some issues. But, overall there aint a more complete epic tale out there and may never be. LOTR is close and is my 1B-favorite, but SW rules them all.

I'd like to show something here, which I feel should be watched. You may not agree with all points, I didn't, but still...

It wasn't SOMEONE, it was the creator.

Nobody would have had a right to complain if Leonardo DaVinci had updated his Mona Lisa (, although there was hardly anything about it he could have done better technologically, I think), so your point is moot, but we are just beating that old dead horse again.
