With Lucas, everyone was a Yes-Man. But I agree with your sentiment.

To be fair, I don't think Disney is particularly better at film preservation than Lucas is.

The Lion King where they took out the Mufasa cloud rolling away in the distance, and refuse to give us the original version with it still in? The one where they redrew the crocodiles?

Yeah, I'll admit it looks amazing in HD, but this isn't the best argument for a restoration of the OOT.

The Lion King cloud change particularly bugs me.

It's also a shame they didn't include seamless branching with Bambi's alternate ending
[Show spoiler]featuring Godzilla!

100% agree, the worst mistake Lucas made was getting rid of Gary Kurtz, it went all downhill after that

That's the beauty of the whole situation. Disney will make more money after making an investment to restore and release the theatrical versions of the Original trilogy. Everybody wins except for George Lucas.

I would still say George wins no matter what. After all, he is 4 billion dollars richer.

The Saturday before Thanksgiving we had our Star Wars Day, and what a day it was! We actually got started a little late, 11am, so we didn't finish up until nearly 3am! Say what you want about the prequels, I find 'em quite an enjoyable experience. Especially when watched I-VI. Even with the crazy changes in the BD of the OT, like Artoo magically getting behind rocks, I still feel like I'm watching the same movies I watched as a kid. I get the same feelings of excitement and awe because even with the changes everything else is still there!

Hey, bhampton, what order did you watch the saga in with the newbie? I actually prefer the numerical order, but I've found others like it in chronological order to preserve the surprise of Vader being Luke's father. I like numerical because it is more of a shock to me that Anakin turns to the Dark Side. It made my son's jaw drop to the floor when that moment happened in "ROTS"! Also, I like to end the saga on a happier note with "ROTJ". Seems more complete that way.
Have you tried watching it in what I found on the net called the"machete order?" Basically, you watch Ep. 1, then go to 4 and 5, then do 2 and 3, then 6. I had a few of my friends that never saw the trilogies watch the movies in this order and they loved it. Ep. 1 is like a standalone movie introducing Anakin and Obi-Wan, then by watching 4 and 5 you still get the Vader father surprise. Then by dropping 2 and 3 after that you see how Anakin became Vader, then you have the wrap-up in 6. It actually works pretty well.

Lol seriously. But 4 billion or no 4 billion, Lucas has been swimming in money like Scrooge McDuck for God knows how long.

I will always prefer the OT, but the PT isn't nearly as bad as its made out to be...at least IMO. Now I will say this, Episode II drives me nuts even thought it does have some amazing action sequences. The "love story" betwween Padme and Anakin is the most eye-rolling, wooden acting garbage. Think I'm gonna start skipping that chapter/s.

I have Mr. Lucas on the line; he's up for it. But, hey....he wants to get you some plastic surgery so that you can be his Special Edition timcat4843. All photos of the original you are to be destroyed.

You can agree with George....or be left behind.

I agree, the OT is by far the best, but the PT had its moments. I always wondered what we would have gotten if Lucas just wrote the stories for the PT and handed off the directing and screenplay writing to other people. That worked so well for ESB, ROTJ and even Raiders of the Lost Ark. I totally blame the wooden acting on Lucas, I mean, he even made Sam Jackson wooden. Sam F'in Jackson, I didn't think that was even possible LOL!!!!!

Hey - thats a damned cool way to do it. I am in the midst of watching these with my nieces(7 and 10 yrs old) who have never seen them before and this would have been a good way to do it. We are doing them chronologically. 1-6.
