No I'm not saying that. TPM is easily the worst and in fact, as strange as this might sound, I even think Empire looks better then even AOTC as well, but when watching it although the colours look great and detail can be good, I just know that I'm watching an outdated source meant for DVD that's stripping the film of its potential to look that much better. The grain reproduction which looks digital and sometimes frozen is obvious too (in all 3 OT films). A modern 4K scan would make for a night and day difference. It would look so much sharper, bolder and authentic. However you could say that about ANH and ROTJ too.

I plan on watching all three of these again soon on my current display (never before seen on it) so maybe my thoughts will change a bit.
There isn't a hell of a difference separating all of the OT films, your right, AVH as well looks a bit too over saturated. They all have there own individual problems no thanks to the outdated scans all 3 strive from.

They (the Ewok films) were and I think they went theatrical in international territories.

But who knows when those will get released and by whom (does Fox still have them or does Disney have them now)?

Watching consecutively like that really makes a person realize Empire is definitely the best of the series, and also that ROTS was the best prequel. I also was annoyed to notice just how often the characters say "search your feelings" and "I have a bad feeling about this"...got to be a little ridiculous.
The singling out has more to do with Empire having the most potential visually of the 3 OT films, but the clearly outdated old master was holding it back.

Do you think that Disney will reissue all six films with 4K scans?

I'm certain that the films will be restored at some point, hopefully we'll get restored editions and revised special editions with high-quality special-effects added for possible 3D theatrical runs. At the moment the Disney / Lucasfilm future to me looks very promising.

It wouldn't matter with AOTC and ROTS because they were shot digitally with a maximum resolution of 1080p, so they will never look any better then they do right now. ROTS looks stunning the way it is anyway, but AOTC is the one that is going to suffer.

I hope Disney get 4K scans of the OT done some day and if it were not for DNR, TPM could have looked the best of the lot considering it was the last of the Star Wars movies to use traditional 35mm film stocks which are technically superior to digital.

Hi I am wondering if I should just pick up the sequel trilogy as I love that more than the George Lucas Fiasco in the prequel ?
Or should I just check whole set ?

29$ for 3 good movies ? WIll they include all the special features for these movies form the whole set ?

Thanks

They would NOT include the special features. It's simply the movies on Blu-ray. I think it's worth it to get the complete saga.

Sure you can get the 3 movies on it's own, but deep down inside your gonna still look at that beautiful Saga Collection with all the special features. You might also toss and turn at night thinking about the Saga collection, and knowing that you had a choice and instead you went with the bare bones 3 film collection.

Here's a suggestion, avoid tossing and turning at night and get the Saga Collection. Trust me, you'll just walk around more proudly knowing you own the Saga.

or like me, you'll just turn around and trade it in once you've seen the Addywan versions.

Just buy the Prequel trilogy. I watched all six movies over a two day period and the Original trilogy is horrible in comparison. The original has horrible acting, horrible effects, and it's super cheesy.

Star Wars has no sequels. You have the OT and then the Prequels.

Yeah, true ... I bought the full set, but after watching all six, I figure I would have been happy with just the OT. There's not a thing in the PT I need for the story to be complete for me (it's just extraneous information that isn't even particularly interesting, I feel). And I haven't even taken any of the extras discs out of the case, so they clearly don't matter to me either.

If I were doing it over, I'd just buy the OT set.

Sure you can't compare the prequels to the original. But the artwork and special features that come with the Saga is worth the purchase.
Everyone has their own taste of course, some people love the extras and some don't care for it.

I got the Saga on sale, so I'm not to worried about the price I paid for it.

I prefer the OT artwork to the Saga set, but I put content over packaging and wanted the bonuses.

While I don't enjoy the PT so much, its come in handy -- if I'm in the mood for sci-fantasy diversion I'll pop in one of them (usually III) and slow the burnout on the originals with all their crappy acting, dialogue and effects. For that I pop in an Adywan edit.

I have yet to see the Adywan cut, am I missing out on a lot?

The Prequel trilogy has horrible acting, outdated CGI, and its super cheesy. You don't get much cheesier then TPM with Jar-Jar and Jake Lloyd. *Cringe.*
