Sofia Coppola's eyes in The Godfather, Part III are glazed over and portray virtually nothing throughout the entire movie, but that doesn't mean they look less real than Al Pacino's or Andy Garcia's, who both portray a wide range of emotions through their eyes in the same film, or even when compared to the monster in 20 Million Miles to Earth.

So, I think you're talking about something different - portraying emotions or character through the eyes - versus the eyes actually looking more or less real in a literal sense.
I can't disagree with the above. My point still stands that the ability to portray emotion through the eyes of CGI characters was lacking during the early days, and many of the characters seemed emotionless as such. There's a huge difference even comparing the first film in the Prequel trilogy to the third film.

I have no problem with CGI. I just dislike bad CGI that fails to help us relate to CGI character.

I'm wondering why Disney has control over this, though. I thought the older 6 are completely controlled by Fox.

The distribution rights are controlled by Fox. Disney owns Lucasfilm, which in turn owns ILM, and they was overseeing the 3D conversions.

Default 3d conversions postponed not canceled

Directly from the official Star Wars website

Lucasfilm has decided to postpone this fall's scheduled release of Star Wars Episodes II and III in 3D. Given the recent development that we are moving forward with a new Star Wars trilogy, we will now focus 100 percent of our efforts on Star Wars: Episode VII in order to ensure the best possible experience for our fans. We will post further information about our 3D release plans at a later date.

Well, it seems this month, May and December this year are going to be the only good movie months for me. I was looking forward to those re-releases.

Why? Just so you can try to drive people to the thread you created?

Some discussion about the postponement of the 3D releases is pertinent to this thread as well. The Complete Saga and separate trilogy releases are now the only Blu-ray releases of the films for the foreseeable future. Talking about the 3D releases here isn't off-topic, and it's useful information for many users reading this particular thread/forum.

If you want to get really technical, your thread probably doesn't belong in the 3D Blu-ray Movies forum either, but rather in the Movies forum (and even then, I'm sure there's already an existing thread about the 3D re-releases). The announcement says that the theatrical 3D re-releases have been postponed, with no mention of Blu-ray releases (because there was never an official announcement for Blu-ray releases). Were Blu-ray releases anticipated? Absolutely. Will those now be postponed too? Sure. But any threads about 3D Blu-ray releases of the films would have been pure speculation up until this point anyway.

Either way, discussion of it here, especially since these are the only actual Blu-ray releases that were ever actually announced or released, is entirely warranted to a certain extent. Anyone who was thinking about holding out on any of these sets for the 3D releases now has to re-evaluate that (like me ).

The official announcement direct from Lucasfilm only says postponed:

I wouldn't be surprised if they get completely cancelled, but at this point, officially they're just postponed.

Default I foresee Disney buying out fox last few years

I foresee Disney either buying out the last few years fox has left on the first and second series excluding 4 which fox owns. Or working with fox and letting them work with them for episodes 7-9 and then releasing all of the movies in 3d right before the start of 7 or waiting till episode 9

Why forget such great movies? Either way, too late for that. Fortunately, of course.

I think the idea is to not dilute the market before Episode VII comes out.

That's an outdated mind set to have because the majority who have been educated on what Blu-Ray is suppose to look like know that the format isn't about making everything look "clean and crisp" (with the exception of animation) at the expense of digitally manipulating it. Its about staying as true to the source as possible extracting the most amount of detail out of the film image.

What kind of picture quality settings do you use to view Blu-Rays on? Because if the contrast and sharpness are cranked up then yes, Blu-Rays with heavier grain patterns will look crap, but with the right configuration will look amazing.
