The 1997 edition is probably the best for the finale of Return Of The Jedi.

You have Sebastian Shaw as Anakin and the imo superior Victory Celebration song. The best of both worlds. Then you have the 2004 & 2011 editions with Hayden Christensen looking like a total perv lol.

Seriously his stare is creepy as ****.

And, really, you can offer any bet you'd like that by the summer of 2017, the 40th Anniversary someone in Disney will take the original cut and slap it on a blu ray without restoration. That will keep the costs down for them, and I assure you, every SW fan who's over 35 will seriously consider a purchase. It's such an obvious money maker as is, you can bet they'll grab that cash.

And by the way, you are insane in the membrane.
Disney will probably do some form of remastering. Maybe not extensive restoration but I can't see them presenting the Theatrical Cuts in a shoddy state, people would complain.

You guys do realize 20th Century Fox still owns the distribution rights for the original Star Wars film, right? That didn't move to Disney as part of their buyout of Lucasfilm.

So unless Disney reaches some separate deal with Fox, they won't be releasing it in its original version anytime soon. You can quit theorizing about Disney's future blu ray plans for the OT now...

They probably stole some shot of when Hayden was undressing Natalie with his eyes.

I thought Disney managed to get some of the distribution rights? I could be wrong though.

To be fair, that probably would've been my face too if I was in that position lol

I don't know why but I can picture Hayden with Kenneth William's voice at that moment in the film.

What makes it all even more dodgy is the fact that Anakin's looking at his kids when he's doing it XD.

From what I have heard, Disney is trying to acquire the distribution rights from 20th Century FOX as we speak. It's probably going to take a few years until they settle on an agreement, but at least we know they are working on it. I only know this because I have a friend who works at Disney and he knows a few people in the legal department there. But that's all the info I know.

Nope.

The earliest they can negotiate home video rights for Empire and Jedi is in 2020. They remain with Fox for the time being and revert back in about 7 years.

The original Star Wars [A New Hope] distribution rights, however, are owned by Fox in perpetuity, which means Disney will never get it.

So please, everyone, time to stop going on for pages and pages about Disney magically rescuing the unaltered OT and putting out new blu rays.

Ain't gonna happen. Ever.

Wholly disagree. Fox lives on licensing rights. They'll reach a deal when someone starts running numbers and they talk them into it.

In the end, they'll take what is probably the LaserDisc version, "restore" it in the sense of cleanup and dirt removal but not in the traditional "Lucas restore" sense.

It's the Disney acquisition and control of Indiana Jones which is the gordian knot in the deal. You can bet they'd love to reboot that as well, but those legal rights are ten times as bad as Star Wars.

That makes no business sense. Why would Fox license the home video rights to Star Wars, perhaps the most profitable catalog title/franchise they own, when they can continue to milk it until the end of time themselves?

Unless Disney makes them some silly offer, they're better off keeping it in-house and re-releasing it ad naseum forever...

Regardless, the fact remains that Disney cannot legally release the unaltered OT in HD for the foreseeable future.

If FOX wanted to milk the Star Wars Saga, they would have already done it, we would have had at least 10 different versions of it on DVD and Blu-ray, Star Wars has had only one release on blu-ray (although you can choose the Original Trilogy and The Prequel Trilogy as well as the Saga) and 3 different DVD releases of the Original Trilogy (First Boxset release in 2004, slim Boxset release in 2005, and the individual DVD releases of the OT in 2006). WB has had at least 5 or 6, (maybe even more), different releases for the Harry Potter series and that's just on blu-ray alone. It would be stupid not to give the distribution rights to Disney because Disney owns EVERYTHING else besides the distribution rights and with the new movies coming, they would want to get the rights for the other movies to release a full 1-9 Saga Boxset someday, it's going to happen, it's just going to be a few years till we get an official announcement, it's like what Disney just did with the other Marvel movies, I can see a Huge Boxset one day with all the Avenger Movies in it! It just makes sense!

Fox does not own or decide anything. They are just the distributor. It comes out on fox video and they get a small cut, that's all.

I'm pretty sure Lucas still owns the OT.

20th Century Fox owns the permanant rights to distribute the original Star Wars film outright. That's the fact I was trying to get across to people thinking Disney was now gonna release the unaltered OT on blu ray. Disney ain't releasing an OT box set.

The distribution rights to the OT remain with Fox. That's the point I was making in regards to a possible OT box set from Disney. Is that more clear?

Distribution rights is not ownership. Fox distributed the Bond movies too but they don't own or control Bond.

Here's something more clear: that only applies to Star Wars. In 2020 all other pre-existing films revert to Disney.

And they WILL work something out. Companies this size don't leave money on the table. And it'll be a LOT of money.

Also, Kemcha is still insane in the membrane. GWTW was shot black and white and then later colorized? WOW.

Which I already mentioned on the previous page of this thread...

Can we all at least agree that the unaltered OT will not (and more importantly, cannot) be released on bluray by Disney anytime soon?
