No they have not. They are on record as saying Lucas offered them the SE's and they turned them down! OMG why do you all insist in making up rumors over and over about the same thing? They took ALL THREE films as they were originally presented and only the first two have actually been "inducted". I think its been said about 1000 times in this thread with links....

Also, only footage of the original version is shown in the documentary about the National Film Registry.

I doubt that if Disney does release the original Original Trilogy on blu-ray even that won't be unaltered. I just can't see them leaving in the Wampa arm error, the Matte lines and not correcting the lighsabers. I expect all of those things to be fixed and just have all of the Special Editions additions removed.

The ROTJ poster of just the lightsaber still gives me chills. I was 5 when my mom took me to see it in May 83. I remember walking down the hall and seeing that poster next to the doors. I was so excited.

Funny story, and say what you will about selective memory, but I know what I saw: just after the sail barge blew up there was a 1-2 second shot of Han staggering in the desert, then it went to the number countdown, then continued on. I asked my mom what that was and she told me it was for the reel change. She used to work in a theater so she knew that stuff well. I was so confused by that image for years because it didn't make any sense and it was so jarring I interrupt the movie like that. I saw it again in 85 and hoped maybe they had cut something off, but no change.

It wasn't until the mid 90s when I read about the sandstorm scene and saw the photos. That got me to thinking if that's what it was I had seen. When the blus came out I actually brought my laptop with me so I could watch the deleted scenes in the parking lot. Alas the image I had seen and the clips were quite different. I saw Han in bright daylight in a front on shot with no cloak or goggles. I've looked for some type of proof of what I saw, but nothing positive. I even looked up reel time changes and couldn't find anything.

Any experts out there know when the first reel change is? I think that would be the biggest key to this.

I was 11, and that poster lit up my imagination as well! I went with a friend and his father. We stood in line for an hour-and-a-half in the hot morning sun. The theater was oversold. People were standing up against the walls. A dude with an afro sat down in front of me, and I spent half the movie looking around his planet-sized head.

One of the best theater experiences I have ever had.

Well, since we're on the topic of cover art, and that lightsaber comment reminded me, I like the minimalist cover art for the Definitive collection VHS box set.

But to me, I suppose, the Star Wars art will always be the Alvin ones. I remember those being used for the comic book adaptations that were published here in the mid-90's, before the special editions came out - in fact, I recall they were also used for the final VHS issue before the special editions.

If the National Film Registry point has been brought up before, then I'm sorry to beat a dead horse. I'm new to the site. I'm glad to know that my memory was correct though from nearly twenty years ago. I have no idea why they would deny having the prints, so what you're saying makes sense.

Can someone here help me out on something? If you have the DVD releases of the (mostly) unaltered original trilogy, can you check the end credits to see if they still read Copyright: 20th Century Fox, or if -- like the 2004 DVD and the recent Blu-Ray release, they now read Copyright 1997 Lucasfilm Ltd."? I figure they'll still read as Fox, as its the old laserdisc master. But what they hey, I'm curious.

Many thanks if someone can check that for me (I'd do it myself, but down own them).

If I was an executive at FOX and Disney offered to joint release the UOT and FOX said no I wouldn't want to go to the annual shareholders meeting.

Thanks. Devin Faraci is insisting that Fox still owns Star Wars, but Star Wars hasn't carried a Fox copyright since at least 2002 (copyright for Star Wars reads 1997). I was curious to see if they had altered the credits for the UOT DVD release, even though I figured it was unlikely since it was a port of the old THX laserdiscs.

Also found this...old article from the LA Times in 1998 that reported some insider comments, stating Fox had given Star Wars back to LucasFilm in exchange for rights to distribute the Prequels.

No one really knows except FOX, Lucasfilm and Disney in terms of who owns what now. There is no telling what went on in terms of dealing with the prequel distribution. The news that Lucas was making the prequels was so huge that Fox would have done just about anything to get the distribution rights at the time. Lucas could have gone to any studio to distribute them so it would actually make sense that he got the rights to Star Wars back. If not why didn't he just go to Disney back then?

Interesting to see Clive Revill is still credited as the voice of the Emperor on the Empire Strikes Back blu ray credits.

Plus, Star Wars carries a LucasFilm copyright now in the credits.

It's about 11 minutes a reel, so around the 11 minute mark for reel 1, 22 minutes for reel 2, 33 for reel 3 and so on.
