If you use the non-anamorphic DVDs, keep in mind that the alien subtitles are below the image in the black area, so zooming in will probably crop them out.

Are the subtitles on the laserdiscs the same as the theatrical versions/VHS tapes? Or are they below the image?
He’s gonna have the same results if he uses the Widescreen LD or the non-anamorphic DVD. Judging from his post I don’t think he minds any of this and just wants to show the OUT.

As much as I want the UOT, I think the 2011 SE of TESB is actually quite flawless for the most part. There are only two things that really bug me:

1. The escape from Besping being inter-cut with Vader walking to his shuttle and his arrival at the Executor. Completely destroys the tension and the perfect pacing.

2. Boba Fett's altered voice.

Apart from that and a few dodgy CGI scenes in Bespin, which could have easily been improved/touched upon for the blu-ray release, I am perfectly fine with the 2011 SE of TESB.

Honestly haven’t watched the VHS or laserdisc copies in quite some time. For some reason I own like three or four separate versions of the OT on both formats. Does that even make sense? Different artwork, etc... I would show pics but when I got divorced, most of the collectible covers never made it back on display.

Disney should make a stand-alone film about the wolfman from the unaltered OT.

Default Best looking Star Wars Prequel Trilogy Blu-Rays

Looks there are different year releases for the Star Wars Prequel trilogy on Blu-Ray. Does anyone know which year release looks the best on Blu-Ray? Thanks.

I don't believe there's been any differences in the releases at all.

They seem to be all the same, from what I gather.

The Phantom Menace disc has one of the worst Blu-ray transfers in my collection, but the others all look pretty good.

Despite the mild DNR here and there, I loved the restoration done to TPM.

To the OP: No, they all share the exact same transfers.

TPM is the first home release where the chrome starship isn't as washed out against the background. I would love a proper transfer, though.

"Mild DNR" nuthin', Phantom Menace is smoother than a buttered bannister but it still beats the DVD that made it look like the movie was filmed on sandpaper. A remastered presentation somewhere between the two would've been GREAT but I think George fell into the exact same trap as what recently befell Cameron on T2: DNR & sharpen the shit out of it to remove the grain and help expedite the 3D conversion process, but they then fell in love with that de-grained master in general.

Yeah as heavily filtered as the BD transfer is it still absolutely shits all over the DVD.

I bet the underlying master looks amazing.

Dare we dream of 4k despecialized editions sometime after the new trilogy hits BD?

Disney would be stupid not to do something. They're sitting on a potential goldmine.

I just wonder how much work needs to be done, although I imagine with the OT it's mostly retouching the practical effects. Guessing the PT would be the much larger investment for better transfers.
