That Lucas shot his last two prequels in the same resolution indicates he is more than comfortable with a 1080p master of his films."

Maybe if Lucas makes enough money from the BDs (read: they sell like there´s no tomorrow) there will come the time to revisit again and do 4K or even 8K scans. But I highly doubt it, since the prequels will never look as good as the OT and that just doesn´t fit into Lucas' "vision".

Pretty solid theory. Thanks.

Still, it just blows my mind that one of the most loved and succesful franchises in film history only recieves a "second rate" restoration when a lot of smaller films are put through state of the art restorations like for instance Memento and Romeo + Juliet. Didn't GL spend the best part of the past two decades promoting state of the art digital work flow etc? And now he settles for outdated scans when he knows that detal would definitely migrate, if he indeed did all new scans (well for four of the six films anyway).

One thing is matering the VFX in HD resolution only, which Lucas knows severely limits the future proofing of his transfers, but how come he isn't at all interested in actually presenting the films the best way possible by todays standard? No one in the industry has the same level of control over their films as he does, and he should pull out all stops instead of limiting himself by only working on the HD digital files. Hell, Gladiator just had a 4K scan done with all its digital VFX and that movie came out in 2000 - only a year after TPM. And Star Wars is a way more profitable property than that movie and the financial incentive should be larger.

Episode 2 and 3 are a whole other matter of course, as he will never be able to pull out more resolution from those masters.

It's easier to see on some images. But there was a obvious make-up flaw/issue near the right eye with the footage shot of Palpatine for RotJ. So it was covered up by a black matte to blend it with the shadows and the edge of the hood. It was never really noticeable in the theater, but home video has made it stand out more. They made it smaller and blended it better with the shadow of his hood for the BR release.

It's nearly 99 bucks, as I said earlier there is a chance if you live in the UK that you'll get it a few days earlier with a pre-order. SO instead of the Monday the 12th it might arrive on a Thursday or Friday if you're lucky. Amazon aren't always known for shipping early on pre-orders in the UK.

If you think it will arrive before the US release date it would depend on your shipping method. If it's the fastest method I think it will arrive within 2-3 days. Unless you really want the UK packaging I don't think it's really worth the risk of trying to beat the US release date. Aren't there retailers in the US that ship pre-orders early? I'd imagine shops are going to open at midnight for this release in the US if you want to buy in-store.

As for the sets they have the same outer case with different style interiors the US is a book type package with thick pages while the UK set is a Digistack with a glossy book showing the pictures form the pages of the US set. They both have a disc guide.

I felt like going a little "Star Wars" for a while, I'm so excited by the news coming out.

Plus I'm still bitter they haven't made Jar Jar's 1st AotC costume as an action figure yet. Hence the choice.

I'm pretty sure the Holiday Special is on there or they would have just flat out said it wasn't.

That's kinda what I was thinking, but they were pretty ambiguous.

They should make it an Easter Egg on the Spoof Documentary Selection menu since apparently it's so bad it's funny.

As someone who owns a copy of it on VHS... that's a lie. It is so bad... but it's far from funny. But this helps.

Does the 9 disc set have a slipbox? The pics did not show one but he said the packaging was identical to Aliens.

Is Hardware Wars in the spoofs? If not it should be as it's a great short film from the fall of 77.

Well, there's still a few nitpicks I'd like to have addressed, over the coming weeks before the release. Here's just a few of them...

1) Luke's lightsaber during the Falcon scenes. On the DVD, the outer glow changes from green in one shot, to white in another, then to blue in the last.

2) The Emperor's hologram in "Empire". Will they be using the 2004 version, or has it been reshot to match with "Jedi"?

3) From what I've seen, the square panels on R2-D2 seem to switch from blue to black in some shots, and vice versa.

4) In many 2004 shots during the Death Star battles in "New Hope" and "Jedi", you can clearly see matting boxes around the TIE Fighters, as well as a few Rebel ships.

5) In "Sith", Anakin speaks to Padme on Mustafar about his actions. His lips say, "I've done things no Jedi ever has, and I've done it for you, to protect you". However, his voice says, "I'm doing things no Jedi ever has, and I'm doing it for you, to protect you".

6) Obi-Wan's line to Anakin, "only a Sith deals in absolutes", doesn't make any narrative sense at all, since the Jed are pursuing absolute justice against the Sith. Has it been altered, or removed?

7) Has the longer "scuffle fight" scene between Obi-Wan and Anakin been restored, explaining why each of them have the other's lightsaber in a few shots?

8) Will the issue of Leia's memories be addressed in the new edit, since Luke specifically asks about her "real mother"?

9) Some of the face replacement shots for Christopher Lee and Ian McDiarmid don't look too good in "Clones" or "Sith"; have they been updated?

10) What is the current status of the "cockpit transparency" issue, presented during the Battle of Hoth?

11) Will Anakin's metal arm at the wedding in "Clones" be replaced with the more detailed version we see in "Sith"?

12) Will Obi-Wan's "ghost form" be kept consistent in color, between "Empire" and "Jedi"? There's some shots where he almost looks blue, and others where he's simply surrounded by a white glow.

I didn't know about the Cropping Issues with the DVD of The Phantom Menace.
something is up with those comparisons- the dvd screens should only be 740 pixels wide if the source is truly the dvd- as it is, they are over 1500 pixels-

doesn't quite make sense.
