Question to all of you: Do you really think Lucasfilm would care, if people were happy with horrible 2004 DVD release? I don't think so.

What you have to remember is that the MAJORITY of people would never know they are getting a substandard release. The MAJORITY of people don't notice colouring issues and incorrect lightsabre colours. The MAJORITY of people don't frequent fan forums and have never, ever seen a fan edit. I am a Star Wars fan and I have never seen a fan edit as good as they appear to be.

Lucasfilm had to go back in and correct these issues, not for Blu Ray, but for the 3D releases to come. The 2011 transfers are now the blueprint for all future releases, and in HD flaws stand out a mile.

The general consensus is that they did a rush job on the '04 DVD, which is now being amended. But the '04 DVD sold in bucketloads despite all the negative speculation because it is still Star Wars.

I don't think anyone should accept an inferior product, but no-one is voting with their wallets. Be thankful that this time around it seems they have acknowledged the faults and gone back and sorted them.

As much as I respect Adywan, I don't think he alone was responsible for the about turn by LFL. They know the product was inferior, but if the masses buy it, why worry? This time, they are doing the corrections for a film that may be its final release in terms of amendments and additions. This is the one that will remain the Star Wars legacy for generations.

I have no doubt however, that individuals will moan about something, create a fuss about something else, because without that, fan edits serve no purpose.

The argument of "that is the way he intended it to be" or "it is his film he can do with it as he likes" is a weak one when you are talking about poor quality transfers and sound mixes (but those same two sentences are excellent when talking about actual changes to the film narrative structure).

Concur totally! I am still waiting for him to elablorate with the problems he had with Star Wars (Mos Eisley) back in 1977.

Hopefully more will be revealed soon as the what this "2011" cut is. Especially with regards to the scenes that have so much controversy surrounding them.

Also who said they did a rush job in 04? Who? Posters here on the board? SW was not released on DVD until EIGHT years into the format and then they re-released them in 06!!!! It was not a rush job by any means it was a SLOPPY JOB BY LFL AND GL. Hopefully for everyone History will not repeat itself.

Good reports by both Bill Hunt over at the digital bits and by home theater forum with their report as well. Looking forward to September 16th and star wars the complete saga on blu-ray disc.

I may get this blu-ray then, or well it might be 'gifted' to me if I show some interest to it. The only reason I have been holding off and reluctant to fork out my money is because I have the best editions already (for me personally) which are on laserdisc (You guys can disagree with me all you want on that, but it's no different from those who prefer the 2004 SE.).

I am mostly curious to see how this will truly look and sound, putting aside my dislike to special edition changes. If it really does look and sound as good as we are told then it probably is worth having it for that alone. It's weird that I am more interested in TPM remastering than anything though (my favourite prequel though because it was shot on film).

If not already posted (sorry if it has been):

Interested to know exactly what's on discs 7-9 of the complete Star Wars saga Blu-ray box set? TFN forum member "digitalfreaknyc" posted the full list of bonus content on our Blu-ray thread yesterday. He told me that the information was on a spec sheet from Korea that he received from "a friend who works in the home video industry."

UPDATE: Lucasfilm's Chris Argyropoulos told me via email that "the information on this forum is accurate but incomplete."

Chance for the original deleted scenes to be included from the PT, or have we accounted for them all in the count?

Yup, that was about 50 pages ago. It's hard to keep up sometimes.

Yes, it's speculation. But, there's enough evidence out there to suggest I'm somewhat right on that issue.

And it looks like they're all using the same preview pictures. That makes me nervous. They're clearly controlling what gets out there.

All the reviewers are using the same pictures and writing the same glowing reviews. That is enough to make anyone nervous.

Because they're telling them what to write, essentially. They're not letting them see anything that might piss off the fans.

Did I not read somewhere that part of the problem with the '04 release being a rush job was to combat the huge surge in pirated copies of the film. They got it out asap to beat the pirates, but clearly forgot to use quality control. As a direct result, fan edits sprung up and made the matter worse for them.

Clearly, if what we are reading is true, they have learned from their mistakes and have gone back and re-done that which they botched.

Or they wouldn't be invited back to Skywalker Ranch if they wrote anything bad.
OR they've only seen what Lucasfilm wants them to see.

That's just marketing 101. It makes perfect sense. I'm always nervous about the things we're NOT seeing.

But what they are releasing is in direct correlation with what narked the fans before i.e. crossed sabres. They seem to be trying to answer a lot of the issues directly with the fans.

It feels as if they are teasing a little bit too much, but it goes back to my earlier point, the vast majority of purchasers won't know or care about previous issues, they will buy the set because they want to own Star Wars in HD. It feels a lot like they are just trying to appease the fans, but in doing so are causing even more debates and controversy about a release which to date no-one has really seen.

Fun!

I had heard this was a factor as well...I'm just not quite sure how big a factor it was.

I think we all should breathe a lot easier for now, because going by the reports, at the very very least, it appears to be quite an improvement on the 2004 DVDs.

For the tech wizards out there, I have a question, how much more can the human eye realistically see after 1080p?

I mean, for the average consumer, is there a significant visual difference between 1080p and 2k?

I'm only asking because of the fact that Episodes II and III max out at 1080p and Lucas has basically set that resolution as the defacto resolution for the entire Saga for the future.

For home viewing purposes, isn't that enough for the future? I mean, I just don't see the industry coming out with another HD disc based format after this.

To me, the next phase is 1080p streaming/digital download that's equal to or greater than Blu Ray.
