Nah, just render it at a higher resolution.

I don't know if they'd have to start the CG completely from scratch but yeah, they'd definitely have to recomposite everything.

In fact, they'd probably have to recomposite a lot of (if not all of) the optical effects too.

Well, it sounds as if the restoration work that was done to prep the '97 Special Editions was scanned at 2k, from all the reading I've been doing online today.

That should be sufficient enough for a really good HD transfer. It's essentially the same thing they did for The Fellowship of the Ring...go back to the 2k digital files.

I'm not very familiar with Lucas's alterations to the 2nd and 3rd films, but I don't think they even have that much CG do they? I'm not really sure what the rationale for ESB and ROTJ using the older transfer is, since the original negatives should be in much better shape than the first film.

Almost every shot of Bespin showing anything outside of the buildings (windows, landing platforms, approach shots) have had CG added.

Not sure about ROTJ, probably less than the first two, but ESB might even have more than ANH.

Well, it just depends on what resolution he scanned these films digital when prepping the '97 Special Editions...because the '04 box set is based off that restoration....the digital files.

Not even that, it's a bunch of articles that link to the Digital Bits article as its source. They weren't even at the summit.

Are you sure about that? So anyone that goes over there has stopped coming here? I'm pretty sure i'm still around and so are the other OT.com members.

And nothing has been dispelled yet and it won't be until the blu-rays are out. Funny how people are saying that these new screencaps are showing proof that the colour timing has been changed, yet when someone proves that they are the same as the 2004 versions, they say that they aren't from the blu-rays.

Should I start shouting for the UPT and start up a few websites, do a few fan films and become known across the fan forums for my outrage.

Hypocritical nonsense.
You are so wrong. You will find that most people who don't like all the changes and just want the OUT don't like the prequels so they couldn't really care less what changes are done to these films. Whereas many who like all the changes done to the originals like the PT but also like any updates that are thrown at them. There isn't the same call for the theatrical versions of the PT as there is for the original trilogy. I've probably only seen a handful of people complaining that there has never been a release of the theatrical versions of the PT apart from on laserdisc or VHS.

But it isn't all about the changes done to the OT anyway. Its about the suppression of a version of a trilogy of movies that people loved for 20 years. Sure there are the controversial changes that were done for the SE's that a great many hate, but others that they are not so bothered about. If George would have just respected the fans that gave him the opportunity to do all the prequels, TV shows etc then the whole backlash about the constant changes would never have arisen. But the main problem that always seems to start the fire is when anyone says anything negative, no matter how small, about anything Star Wars and they are bombarded with the usual "haters" remarks and then told that if you don;t like everything Star Wars then " you are not a true fan" and then get attacked with sly, but not very well hidden, personal attacks.

Oh, and by the way, these same people that you say just like to shout about the OUT, do fan films and become known for their outrage have actually done preservations of the original theatrical versions of the Prequels, so there are those that don't like all the changes, even to the prequels.
