Have both on DVD,but am being infected with the BD virus,so think they look horrendous now Will probably buy redux when it comes out since that probably will be the first choice, but am hoping on a complete dossier version with both in it

Ok I'm catchin' your drift.

Sorry for the "maturity", lack there of, of my post but there's a fine line in the debate. Sorry though, didn't mean to bash your favorite childhood movie.

Just out of curiosity, what did you think about the new Clash of the Titans?

And...

The 'sepia' tint added to both of Kilgore's battle scenes along with the removal of the demolition of Kurtz's compound during the credits.

This movie is also at top of my BD wish list.

Please tell me that you are kidding.

Along with the crushed blacks and blooming reds, oranges and blues we also get the toning down and outright removal of parts from the greatest musical score ever created.

I take it that you have probably never viewed any of these versions before 1997, but only the special edtions that came after?

Probably a big surprise to everybody , but I actually like the dance number, and the CG aliens hold up well. It's fun and innocent, in and otherwise dreadful place, and it only lasts 30 sec. or so.

Of course it's been debated endlessly on the Internet, but it's not so cut and dry on a deeper level.

Is it Lucas' legal right to do whatever he wants with Star Wars? Yes.

But there is the broader question of art and what "rights" (NOT LEGAL RIGHTS) you give up when you share your art with others.

Personally, I don't hate the new versions (well except for the cartoony crap they inserted into ANH, I think ESB is actually better, and ROJ I could take or leave) but I want to see the originals as well. I have never bought into the lie that they "don't have copies of them" anymore because they dismantled them making the SE's - if they really need a copy of the original film, I know someone who has it in excellent condition on 35mm.

I just hope they have the good sense to release both versions. If they don't, like many I'll just stick with my bootlegs...HD or not.

According to an article I found online today, the original negatives were re-conformed to the SE specifications, so the original versions no longer exist as negatives, although it says the elements unique to the original versions do still exist and the negatives could be re-re-conformed or those elements could be scanned for a digital restoration.

Well, when he showed up at the 'The National Film Registry' to replace the original Star Wars with his 'special edition', they told him to **** OFF.

So he cannot do whatever he pleases sometimes with his films.

Yea, there still are copies(I believe the first theatrical runs) of them floating around all over the place including even over in Europe. But the condition of them is another story.

You mean viewing the 1982 cable TV premiere, then my P&S VHS, then LD, then my "Special Widescreen Edition" LD, then my THX CAV LD box set, then my CLV THX set, then my THX LD SE set, then the DVD set and then the individual DVDs with the originals?

Thanks for posting that Cinemaddict.

I remember when the DVDs came out and I first noticed those crushed blacks, I immediately tried to recalibrate my television and after quite some time I just gave up in frustration attempting to correct it, only to discover through Star Wars forums that it was not my TV after all.

I have to wonder if that vid will also be ignored like that other one over on the other Star Wars thread.

That's a very interesting article. Thanks for posting!

I am now pretty worried about the quality of the release , and I pray Lucas will have all 6 films remastered for the Blu-ray release.

Now, the visual effects would be much cheaper to do anyway, and the quality would be higher too.

I really hope he will realize that these movies have to be experienced in the best possible way, and not some sloppy transfers intended for SD.

Let's all hope for a monumental, final restoration of all movies, with the most up to date visual effects, and all that jazz!

Since I pretty much agree with you I am not sure why the attitude, LOL, but he has the legal right to distribute and change his films in any way he wishes. You are talking about a copy that is already done and held and owned (the print itself) by a 3rd party.

Lucas also could not come into your house and steal your old versions either. Which is not what I was discussing.

I think he realizes that. He's always been quality conscious, and I think the Blu-rays will reflect that.

Let's hope Lucas never figures out how to clone an army of stormtroopers! Of course, if he did, we would simply need to counter with a few Ewoks.
