Give him a break. I'm sure his first thought was. Shit, I hope I didn't leave the stove on.... I'm sure he would have puked in a bucket if there was one close enough.
He looks resolute with grim determination. PDVD_071.jpg PDVD_072.jpg |

I think the scene is perfect. Luke arrives in a panic and sees everything burning he sees his uncle and aunt's charred remains... he drops his head and looks a bit choked up, then we see a shot from behind him standing in front of his burning farm as John Williams' score hits, then it cuts to a scene on the Death Star.
For all we know, Luke (probably) fell into the fetal position and cried for about two hours before he mustered up enough guts to man up and drive back to Obi-Wan (which is the next time we see Luke). |

In the scene in Obi-wans hut Luke insists that he can not leave and that he has responsibilities on tattooine. However, fate or the force have other plans for him. When he arrives at his aunt and unvles house to find them dead and nothing left for him there the scene is suppossed to get across that fate is making sure Luke goes with obi-wan because it is his destiny. Luke realizes that everything he had holding him there is gone. He is accepting his fate and also dealing with the loss of his aunt and uncle. Its conflicting emotions. Lucas set this scene up tp play this way. Yeah, maybr they could have added Luke screaming like a little child, but sometimes less is more, and it woulf have cheapened tje meaning behind the scene which wasn't the death of these people, but that Luke has a destiny and the force will see that he fullfills that destiny. I would say he did cry, but the audience doesn't have to be shown that.

Too many films these days have the incredibly cheesy īNoooooooo!ī when a loved one dies. The beginning of the Clash of the Titans remake comes to mind, god awful. Last edited by kingkong650; 08-29-2011 at 10:04 PM. |

OWEN: You must understand I need you here, Luke. LUKE: But it's a whole 'nother year. OWEN: Look, it's only one more season. Luke pushes his half-eaten plate of food aside and stands. LUKE: Yeah, that's what you said last year when Biggs and Tank left. AUNT BERU: Where are you going? LUKE: Mind your own business! I wish you two were dead! |

As I said Luke looks resolute with determination, I guess there's some relief in there that he isn't going to be tied down to the moisture farm anymore. But he's pretty appalled at how things turned out. Resolute with grim determination.... |

he doesnt have to shout 'noooooo'
i always think of russel crowes peformance when he discovers his wife and kids charred bodies in gladiator as one of the most powerful ive seen. hes a young kid and these are probably the first dead bodies he has seen AND theyre the people that have raised him since he was a kid... like others said it was more like 'phew, thank god theyre gone, NOW can i go to alderaan?' just seemed odd thats all... |

But seriously, I think once is enough with the emotion. We get it with Luke's reaction. Obi-Wan knows Luke is in anguish and he gives him a look of sympathy and great respect for Luke's courage to carry on. After all, that's what makes a hero, the ability to persevere and rise to the top, and Luke does just that. It's fitting in its context. |

Having Anakin in the PT as a spoilt petulant brat was enough for me. One of the reasons I didnīt like the PT all that much is that Anakin is such an unlikable character from the very beginning of the second film right to the end of the third film so you really donīt care that he falls to the dark side at the end of Revenge of the Sith. He has no real character arc in that sense (heīs bad right from the start so thereīs be no real change/character development there) and the prequels trilogy is all the worse for it IMHO. Then once Obi Wan was gone, he acted like he knew the guy his entire life ("I can't believe he's gone.") when it was just a few days. lol
