So relax.

What’s getting overlooked in this discussion is the apparent PQ of the original films – which look all quite strong. STAR WARS may be the best looking 70s film available on bluray.

Maybe the absence of the usual complaining about DNR and edge-enhancement is what’s leading to an over-emphasis on these other matters…
100% agree. I've been offhandedly mentioning how great the 720p rips have looked while discussing the tweaks. Which means the BDs are going to look even better. Some of the fine detail really is astonishing in a New Hope. 3PO has never looked so dirty. Now you can actually see why he needed a cleaning.

OK, I just saw the Vader clip (the 720p one). While this change is definitely stupid and unnecessary, don't judge it based on the youtube clip. The audio in that clip is off by a few seconds, which makes it seem more out of place. I don't care for this change, but just during that short scene, the video looked great, so I don't think I'll be passing on this release.
I do kind of like that they made Wickett blink once in awhile. Not that that was necessary either, it just makes him seem a little bit less like a kid in a costume.

Even if you weren't here, I would say you've missed only a couple posts of useful information and a lot of the usual bickering

Oh I was here on page 1110, I think.

I was hoping that when I woke up, the internet had blown up, literally by all these revelations. I was hoping a major one had leaked over night.

It seems that the big ones have been leaked....

I still find it strange that the Prequels haven't leaked.

I have never seen so many Star Wars fans up in arms over the same stuff and agreeing and this spans all the big Star Wars fan sites. There is not one of them that isn't completely giving it to LFL right now over this stuff. People are canceling pre-orders left and right on all sites.

This thread moves really fast. And I would say the big stuff has been leaked.

What I would prefer is a review of the PQ/AQ - you know, so I can decide if the discs are actually worth keeping a preorder for or not.

I'm really interested in what was added/changed in the prequels. I wonder what's taking so long with those?

Katie Lucas was asked about on twitter and someone even linked the Vader youtube clip and she acted as if she didn't know what it was.

Only replied after watching the clip "Okay!"

Means nothing but at least she was asked. I mean, she helped pick out the box art for the Saga box set.

Nobody's interested in them, I suppose. We all want to know about the OT, since Lucas changed them everytime they were released on a homevideo format.

Starscream,

Yeah, I've been monitoring. These cats are for real about canceling preorders. I don't preorder for something this big. I always go to the store and buy it because you don't know the condition the box set will be in if you have it shipped from Amazon or where ever.

For something this big, I like to pick it out myself.

I just figured they would have the most changes since they haven't been messed with much before.

What, are you kidding? I'm convinced Lucas thinks the prequels are perfect.

No, not kidding. I knew they would add CGI Yoda but I figured maybe they would make a few changes.

He should have completely re-cut AOTC and re-scored it with Williams' oiginal score.

Or so they claim. The "I'm cancelling" thing is as usual the typical BS reaction everytime.

In the end, a few end up cancelling. But most of them simply just end up buying it anyway.

It's the internet fan rage equivelent of "I'm taking my ball and going home!" that you see kids do.

Well, since I've never said that about Star Wars before - does that give me more credibility? Seriously, I never thought GL would go far enough to push me away - but this horribly upsets me. I'm stunned, though I guess I shouldn't be. Becoming a fan with the '97 Special Editions, I never really understood the degree to which fans hated the whole Greedo shooting first thing - but now I totally get it.

Third, these aren't "haters." These, like myself, I big fans of a classic trilogy, watching it being sabotaged by its very creator. Imagine Shakespeare going back and putting a happy ending to Romeo & Juliet (ok, I may being a little extreme here, but that's just and example). And if enough of these fans would cancel their orders, and hit George where it really hurts (financially...), maybe he'd realize what he's doing is wrong.

At the very least, GL could have tried and pull a Peter Jackson and ask fans their opinion on proposed changes/additions for the release. I can guarantee you that his Nooooo! would get an overwhelming Noooooooooooo!!
Hmm, PREFER visuals over story? So wait, what is YOUR definition of the word "accompany"?

Not exactly sure how GL is forcing a franchise by strangling everything together when in fact everything pretty much falls in place. Unless you wanted things like the Emperor's "monster eye" look and a character named Darth Vader with NO backstory. For all that, we'd have a trilogy with no backstory. That's not to say the OT doesn't stand on its own, but things like Vader's redemption are only solidified with the PT.

No matter what anyone does, the franchise has been set. You can boycott the hell out of GL and all his merch., but at the end of the day, you're left with Episode I - VI. Deal.With.It. Romeo & Juliet wasn't a story told years apart, backwards or w/o a true backstory, hence Shakespeare didn't need to tweak shit. A happy ending to Romeo & Juliet = a completely different story. Last I checked, Star Wars was still about Jedi, Galactic Empires, and the rise and fall of both. Unless you're referring to GL changing the ending of VI to Vader and the Sith surviving, fogiving each other, and partying it up with Luke on the Death Star (which was also altered to not get blown up), then I think your little analogy there needs some tweaking of its own.

I wish I had a nickel for every time I've read "I'm done with Star Wars!" After every Prequel, every DVD release, and now after the BD release. I wonder if those folks will stick to their word for a change...
