In retrospect, I should have just compared it to book burning rather than Nazi book burning. That seemed pretty clear from the sentence I think, but I underestimated the power of people to misinterpret shit like this.

Yes real Nazis they are for sure!
I know, right? If there's one negative thing about the internet, it's that it is now too easy for people to anonymously make idiotic statements laced with hyperbole just to show off their "writing chops". All that's accomplished by carelessly tossing out the Hitler analogy is to minimize the Holocaust and lesson the truth of Hitler's evil. Unbelievable.

Anyhow, back on topic. I'm really looking forward to this set. New additions aside, the rips have demonstrated a boost in picture quality that I'm very excited about. The audio appears to be sweet, although I really can't tell from my laptop.

Thanks to Inspector Toschi who reported that the PQ is very good, with fine grain and no DNR. And that's just from compressed 720p rips, at 1080p with blu-ray bitrates it should be much better. That's all I wanna know (this is blu-ray forum after all, where PQ/AQ is where it concerns the most). Eager for professional reviews to confirm this.

Gonna get back to life now, will check with you guys again tomorrow. Behave yourselves please.
The TERRIBLE lightsaber effects that make ANH literally unwatchable kind of make none of what you said mean anything, if the film has unwatchable and shoddy inconsistent visual errors throughout the movie that ruins the video side of things.

Interesting that you guys have only pointed out my use of the word Nazi in my post rather than any of the actual points I made in it.

Then simply make your points. Trying to distinguish them from the pack with an extreme adjective is asking for trouble.

That is because Nazis are a lot more then just book burning thugs. Nazis killed a person because of their race, religion, political views, infirmity......Want it to be about just book burning then don't include Nazis in your post because they were a lot more then just book burners, they were life burners and there is a huge difference between the two of them.

Im going to have to disagree (about the PQ). It think it is good but I would not go as far as 'very good'.

There is what looks like grain, but it is very artificial looking, and individual grain patterns kind of hang there without moving. It is not at all pleasing to the eye and looks nothing like actual film grain.

I am just referring to the 1080p rips by the way. Of course I reserve judgement until seeing my actual BD copies. But I suspect they will be the same.

Lowry himself stated that what they were doing in 2004 would be good enough only for SD releases. I think that between the low-res scan, and whatever processes Lowry performed on that low-res scan, they ended up with this very ugly looking artificial grain.

ANH deserves a 0/5 for the transfer based purely on the horrible effects that were ruined on the DVD and go completely unfixed despite Lucasfilm promising to fix them.

Exactly is the Lowry fake grain, it does and always have looked like crap.
They DNR and then add fake grain, its pointless and ruins the look of the film

Wow, I've been lurking probably for the last 900 pages and finally had to comment.

I think some folks need to get a friggen life and really look at themselves at a person. Seriously!!!! Some people have gone so low on not just this forum, but others to call Lucas a part of the female anatomy. Has our culture gone that far down the ****in drain that people have lost touch just like the person they're tearing apart? I am probably one of the biggest Star Wars fans on this site. Hell, I just bought a brand new house and have one room completely dedicatd to Star Wars. My mother took me out of school on opening day when the OT came out in '77,'80,'83 and have such fond memories to this day. I have also grown fond of the prequels and have learned to enjoy them. Are any of these movies perfect and have they been messed around with enough, sure. Are there parts that completely annoy the living shit out of me? Yes! My wife loves when I ***** about the NNNNOOOO from Vader in Sith. But do I let it get to me so much that I have to completely go insane or start completely basing the guy that brought these into our lives. I'm sure these Blurays will have issues just like EVERY SINGLE BLURAY MOVIE ON THE MARKET since no film is perfect or hasn't been adjusted in some form. Please name the perfect movie so I can go buy it and see what 100% perfection looks like. There isn't one. Does the lightsaber in ANH suck and should they have made it a bright blue or to match Lukes in ESB. Yes, but it doesn't look like the case. Will it stop me from still taking the day on on the 16th, having Buffalo Wild Wings, some beers and sitting back and having one hell of a great day watching these things on my 65" Panny in HD. Hell no. Am I a fan boy, not a chance, but I love the over all story and one little NNNOO, or and ewok eyelid or R2 now tucked away behind a rock completely ruin the entire saga. Nope. Folks really need to get a better perspective in life or one all together. Their movie and enjoy them for what they are worth, even the flaws like Carrie Fishers huge ass mole on her back. Nothing, no one is perfect. 2 1/2 years ago I got ill and the medical staff said I wasn't going to survive, well shit, I did a complete 180 health wise thanks to another DR and I'm healthier than most now. Once you get that slap in the face in REAL life, these movie look pretty friggen sweet. Anyway, just sit back folks and enjoy these for what they are....Movies. It's not life!!!!

That "Nooo" sound clip sounds fake. It doesn't fit in at all with the scene and it sounds like someone has take the "Nooooo" from Revenge of the Sith, shortened it and edited it in.

I would stick money on it, that it's fake.

You don't seem to get what the issue is. Lucasfilm PROMISED they'd fix the sabers. They PROMISED they'd fix the garbage mattes.

It's one thing to have bad effect shots but it's another to put out a huge press event and press release point blank saying they'd fix them then releasing a product where they left them almost entirely unfixed. Lucasfilm lied to the fanbase. Period.

In other words, will the changes annoy you?

Your answer: NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

2001: A Space Odyssey is pretty much unaltered Blu-ray perfection.

It isn't about the changes to a lot of people. It's that Lucasfilm promised to fix the bad effect shots in the OT but then not fixing them. It's a slap in the face. A bold face lie.

You invalidated anything else you said when you ventured into hyperbole and outlandish comparisons. You're kind of going off the rails here this morning. First, the earlier post about Lucas' death and now comparing the guy to Nazis/Hitler. Over movies. You might want to read up on the fuhrer and his evil buddies before you use them as some sort of comparison. You'll likely find it's not a valid one...

Although I am quite willing to accept the possibility of this being fake, I would also expect that if Lucas made a change like this that he would just use the Nooo from ROTS instead of getting JEJ back in. Afterall, the Luke falling scream in the 97 ESB was just the Emperors falling scream from ROTJ
