Why? It's not going to have a serious impact on sales. Rage on websites and threats of cancelled sales always happen.

I have ANH, Empire and Jedi aren't fully downloaded yet but the dragon cry and other alterations are in ANH.

If these aren't real, they are an extremely high quality fake. They look stunning so I can't wait to see them on BD.

It's astonishing to me that anyone still thinks these are fake. Mind-boggling, really. And completely illogical.

There's actually a link somewhere in this very thread.

480p anamorphic widescreen is 16:9. Star wars is 2.35:1, so in the anamorphic version, you only have about 363 lines of resolution (the rest is letterboxing). Now if the UOT DVDs are encoded in 4:3, you only have about 272 lines of resolution left after you remove letterboxing

I wonder if Adywan says he's got rips why he hasn't done frame grabs of the scenes in question?

absolutely agree, adawyn has said they they image has never looked better across any source-

Lucas's daughter probably isn't going to say anything-

and all this "internet talk" is not going to hurt sales- fanboys over estimate their importance all the time-

Which scenes are you talking about? Adywan has posted several frame grabs in this thread already of the changes, including Wicket and R2.

Cool. I might wait for the 720p Macguffin releases of the original trilogy to tide me over until release day. They are usually a day or two behind the other usual suspects, but always work the wait.

Jabba's door is more than just a wider shot. Its completely redone. Look closely at the images and the vids. The wall has been digitly enhanced as well as the door itself to be taller and wider.

Indy,

I don't think they're fake. But, there's a small contingent who desperately want to believe that they are. I accepted the changes yesterday.

I don't know about you, but the addition of the rock to A New Hope just makes it look like Artoo is trapped, and isn't a decent addition at all.

Didn't care for the R2 pic (more rocks and shadow), but the Wicket pic was a big improvement. You can actually see his eyes (iris & pupils) now instead just big black eye balls.

So I guess true Star Wars fans can just buy the eventual single blu-ray release of The Empire Strikes Back.

Dont worry fans! It's been confirmed that the original negatives have been found and will be the ones that will get the 3D blu-ray treatment!

How nice that he tampered with the two most emotional moments in the whole trilogy:
1. Taking away old Anakin ghost and replacing with jackass ghost
2. Double "noo's" added

Well, so far he didnt screw with the third emotional scene of the final fight between Vader and Luke, especially when Vader says, "if you wont turn to the dark side, then maybe your sister will" followed by luke's reaction.

I know I made a mistake.....

Anyway, 272 lines of info is not enough on my screen

FWIW, I compiled a bunch of quotes from the articles that came out of the LFL/ILM sessions last week that have since been contradicted by adywan and others to answer a request from someone at AVS. Feel free to add any additional quotes if you have any. Emphasis is mine in all quotes:

1) Music and sound effects
From HTF:
Quote:
Q: Can you share any feedback that George might have given you on Episode 4?
A: Yes --- always the question of music and effects, the balance there and how to make it most effective. If someone has a dramatic memory of hearing the film originally, and it had the star destroyer going overhead at the beginning with the blockade runner and the lasers going on----if I played the mono mix of what was there, it was pretty harsh. Most people never even heard any kind of surround information. We had to build that and think about what somebody maybe emotionally remembers from that…it was a hard job. When doing that it was always George just making sure we could hear the music, obviously he wants to make sure the dialog can be heard so you can hear the story go forward, and then build the music and effects around that.
And here's adywan's report from the rips:
Quote:
During the opening battle aboard the tantive IV the music is drowned out in favour of the sound effects. then are there are other places too when it's really hard to hear any of the music above the Effects at all. There are a few differences here and there, but i need to go over the audio side of things again. But they screwed up at the end. When they are preparing the Death Star's laser, You could always clearly hear the operators saying "stand by" twice. Well try to hear them saying anything in this mix. It's so far back in the mix they might as well have been whispering it. And they still haven't taken those damn X-wing sound effects from the Falcon vs TIE battle as they escape the death Star. This was an error created in 1997 and never sorted. Yeh, the dialogue is clearer and seems to mix together between alternate audio takes, unlike the 2004 mix and the surround swapping for the music seems to have been fixed in the rear channels also but sometimes the sound effects just seem to drown everything out.
2) Overall color timing of the movies
From Bill Hunt:
Quote:
One of the biggest complaints people had about the Original Trilogy DVDs in particular was that the color timing was wildly uneven.
From adywan's report:
Quote:
The colour timing for all three videos is exactly the same as the 2004 versions too.
Quote:
Just finished watching ESB. only change i could see was the Wampa arm. The colouring is the same as 2004 with the details blown out in the bright areas during some scenes in cloud city, namely the new SE window shots as they head toward the dinner.
3) Lightsaber coloring, brightness, and cores/coronas
From Bill Hunt:
Quote:
As a result, lightsaber colors varied from shot to shot. Previously bright saber blades became dull. I'm told that all of this has been fixed. Particular attention was paid to properly correcting the color space throughout the films. And I'm told that not only have all the saber colors have been restored to their intended hue, their bright white "cores" have been restored as well.
From adywan's report:
Quote:
NONE of the lightsabres have been touched. Same cores and pink glows that plagued that the 2004 versions.
Quote:
It is the same as the 2004 transfer. I just compared the exact same frame and the sabre is identical in colour. Also they didn't fix the white laserblast that comes from the remote, which was only an error in the 2004 versions.
4) Lightsabers again
From the official LFL site:
Quote:
"Some of the issues come from these movies being finished for film and projected for film, and that's how people saw them. A lot of things that look a little different on HD or DVD are really the nature of how video treats color space," explains Huebler. A dramatic example of this came up in the 2004 DVD release, with the dimming of the lightsaber cores throughout the trilogy, even to the point where Luke's lightsaber aboard the Millennium Falcon shifted from blue to green in Episode IV.
From adywan:
Quote:
You seem to be talking about the wide shot where is sabre is green that lucasfilm showed the "fixed" shot. You should check out the blu-ray sample and you will see the sabre in most of the other shots is still green.
5) Additional material in general
From Bleeding Cool:
Quote:
When I was at Big Screen a week and a half ago, I got to sit down with ILM’s John Goodson and Bill George. While it’s possible that they were mistaken and not properly briefed, both Goodson and George told me that, actually, no new material had created for the Blu-ray incarnations of the films.

I specifically asked precisely this, and they specifically told me that, no, George had not been making more changes of this fashion. I asked clearly, and they gave me a clear – and apparently definitive – answer.

Messrs. Goodman and George acknowledged the work done to the soundtrack, the reframing and the colour correction, and even the recompositing of effects, but according to these guys, the Blu-ray versions will simply be polished, perfected transfers of what wasn’t done quite right on the 2004 DVDs.

Don't be so sure. I wouldn't be surprised if the lightsaber sound effects drowned out Williams' fantastic score at that point.
