I remember seeing it on a big screen in the theaters when the SE came out,and I was totally blown away when they flew over the death star in the first movie!I have no fears about the quality on the BD once it's released. My only fears is penny-wise.Probably gonna cost a fair few quids

As stated by Steve Sansweet, "We have been at work for a couple of years working on - I won't call it the Ultimate Set because we keep finding stuff - but, a very full set

Let me translate this...

We figure since people will keep buying our crap over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over again, we won't say this will be the "final" release. After all, we did release 1834 different versions on DVD. Not to mention, we keep holding stuff back and re-release as a "oh we found this never before seen footage that lasts .3243 seconds". Yeah, so consider this the first out of maybe 5 releases that will happen on bloo-ray. Oh and don't forget to start saving. You will need that extra year for what were going to be charging for this "almost complete" set!

... there. Hope that helps someone.

OK, time for some Truth-O-Meter stuff. The Star Wars OT was released on DVD a total of how many times? Wait for it...TWICE. (I'm talking about totally different releases, not reissues.) Yeah, Lucas really duped the publc on that one. And how many times on VHS? At least 4 times that I can think of, maybe more...the original non-altered versions in P&S, a collector's box set of the WS versions. The 'THX enhanced' versions from '95 in both P&S and WS, then of course the '97 SEs in both P&S and WS.

If this eventual BD set is pristine in PQ and AQ, and I'll even grant you, multiple versions, like for example, the '04 prints, or the originals, and of course, the 2011 prints (which you know will be even further enhanced), I don't see the Saga getting more than one initial release, with maybe two separate trilogy releases later on for those who just can't stomach the PT.

As far as "extras" go? I could care less if "more is found" later on. I tend to only watch extras once, if that, so if some years down the line, they find some more stuff and it doesn't change the films themselves, ie. deleted scenes (eg. farmboy Luke with Biggs Darklighter scene) I might rebuy, but just for additional extras, I'll pass.

Again, calling Captain Hyperbole.

How many DVD versions of the OT were there? Exactly TWO. The prequel trilogy: ONE (Im not counting the P&S versions).

I don't know where people come up with this garbage.

I'm thinking this will be a twelve disc set. One disc for each movie and then on disc for special features for each movie.

The set won't be cheap... but man, will it ever be worth it. Besides Jurassic Park, these are what I'm looking forward to the most.

Doesn't really matter: it's formats, not releases. Again, how many versions of the PT is there?

Saying there will be umpteen BD releases is ridiculous.

Default What's your price limit for the Star Wars Saga?

If it really does include all six it's gonna be expensive. What's the highest you'll pay?

I'd say my absolute maximum would be $120, I would really hope for less than $100.

Again, how many LD editions did you say you purchased? You're jonesing for every BD release coming, no matter whatever little tidbit of bonus material or new, modern CGI Lucas is adding to each of them just to keep those $$$ rolling in. He's got you hooked and the old drugs just don't work anymore so he adds a little something so you can reach that 'high' again.

The last LD release was 13 years ago.

LD was a videophile market, so any type of enhancement was seen as a reason to upgrade.
Discs were re-released all the time, some with CAV or CLV formatting, adding AC-3, the "new" practice of letterboxing, DTS, etc.

LD History:
-The initial releases.
-WIDESCREEN.
-THX remastering in CAV format with extras. It was a huge improvement that used the color timing of the film prints. This was the same master used for the "bonus" OT versions of the DVD.
-THX versions in CLV format. The CAV box set was $250, this allowed folks not to shell out a small fortune and keep the number of discs down.
-The Special Editions, which also had the added benefit of AC-3 5.1 surround.

BTW: the last LD release was 13 years ago.
AGAIN: how many DVD releases were there? TWO.

I have a nice little stack of LDs myself so history lesson is not needed. I own one set of SW LDs and that CAV LD box suits me just fine, thank you.

Agreed. Total Humbug.

I am willing to pay pretty much any amount of cash he asks for, but then again, I am sure it's going to be reasonably priced, since they want them to be affordable.

However, I wouldn't mind a super-duper, uber- ultimate set for the hardcore fans.

Well, you are implying that Image Entertainment/Fox is in charge of the DVD/BD releases like on LD.

Your CAV box hasn't rotted yet? My LD player (Pioneer 804) does a nice little "wheeew-shhhhhh" when starting up certain discs. It's not long for this world. My external AC-3 RF decoder died last year.

So I have plenty of discs for sale.

Btw., has anyone seen the SW concert show with those gigantic LEd screen with scenes from all the SW movies???

I so want to experience it, but apparently the show won't come to mainland Europe.

I once read that they were going to release a DVD called

SW: A musical journey, or something like that.

Whatever happened to that plan?

I'd love to see it released on BD

Oh, and did anyone catch AOTC in IMAX???

What did it look like???

Since it was shot in HD I wonder if it held up at all!?!?

Roger Ebert stated in his initial review of AOTC that the PQ lacked definition, because he saw it in a theater with a massive screen, so he went to see it again in a smaller screening room, and it looked much better.

That would be a cool extra (A Musical Journey) on the BDs, don't you think!?!?

The DVD should have been recalled. Flopped surround tracksfor Williams' score, the botched Death Star explosion, an awful sound mix drowning out famous moments of John Williams' score such as the Rebel attack on the Death Star...Warner Bros. issues replacement discs for a single frame of noise on the Matrix Revolutions, but instead of admitting the botched effort, Lucas instead argued that errors such as the goofed up surround tracks were "intentional".

Fool me once, shame on me...

I'll wait until the SW pajamhadeen have had a crack at reviewing this set (if and when it is released) before I buy again.

One thing's for sure - I'm about 80% certain they'll repace the puppet Yoda with CGI Yoda in films 5 and 6 for "continuity". They already replaced puppet Yoda with CGI Yoda for The Phantom Menace (you see the footage in the bonus features for Episode III). In for a penny, in for a pound, as they say.
