But, that technically wouldn't be the "theatrical version" of Star Wars would it?

There are mistakes within the Original Trilogy that fans, for decades, have always wanted fixed properly. Matte lines and boxes anyone?
I wouldn't be surprised if the Blu-Rays contained yet more changes to over the 2004 DVDs. What bothers me about the Special Editions is less about what Lucas did change but more what he didn't. The 1997 special edition left the matte lines around the rancor, and the flickering lightsabers, and white boxes while feeling the need to make Greedo shoot first for no reason.

The only upcoming change we know of is that Yoda for The Phantom Menace has been changed to a computer generated character. Extras on Revenge of the Sith DVD show this was done a while ago and I think we can assume that the Blu-Ray will premire the new Yoda.

Jimmy,

I expect those types of changes (matte lines, etc.) will be fixed on this set. In HD, it'll look even worse if not fixed.

And remember, Episode I looks really bad on DVD in this day and age. I'm very, very curious to see what that film looks like. It's the one that needs the most remastering.

To be fair, the new Yoda has already premiered. It's in the footage shown during the Star Wars concerts.

Beast,

How much footage was it? Was it only the scene we saw on the Revenge of the Sith DVD supplements?

I'm not sure. I am only going by reports of people who have attended.

But I certainly hope this guarentees the end of the fugly TPM Yoda Puppet.

Umm, sorry, but that is not at all the same thing

LOTR movie were created from the get go with the intention of having 2 cuts. Both are valid.

The whining about LOTR comes from being forced to double dip rather then getting a single comprehensive set, despite consumers having already double dipped on DVD.

Found an article about the concert...
Quote:
As the orchestra plays and the choir sings, a giant high-definition LED screen (measuring 60 feet wide and 35 feet tall) will show clips from all six movies, the footage matched to the music. The footage unfolds in rough chronological order but also is organized around musical themes -- a little romance here, the rise of the dark side there.

For the first time, audiences will be able to see a fully digital Yoda in "Star Wars: Episode 1 -- The Phantom Menace," as Lucas recently excised the poorly executed Yoda puppet that originally was part of the film. Anthony Daniels, who lent his voice to the golden protocol droid C-3PO in all "Star Wars" movies, narrates the proceedings.

So Peter Jackson goes to their houses and points a gun at these people until they buy both cuts of his movies? Got it.

Much like Lucas sends out his Stormtroopers across the globe to reaquire every original theatrical version out there. Whether it be Film, Betamax, VHS, Laserdisc, or DVD. And then gleefully watches them being burned while naked (except for a flannel vest), and being pleasured by girls in Oola costumes.

Personally for me I will just continue on with what I have boot fan edits and hope I see a HD transfer someday. Georgie just likes to continue raping his orginal fan base.
Even if I liked the 1997 changes you cant buy them seperatley you have to buy those jacked up 2004 versions with that crap called the prequel trilogy.
The vote shows 93% of the forum members want to buy that prequel trilogy crap in one form or another. Looks like the majority likes the prequels.

These films will always be sold as one from now on, since it's complete.

People might want to start getting use to that. I don't see Lucas splitting them up anymore.

At least not anytime soon. It took what? Two years to get individual releases of the OT?

But I agree. The entire Saga is basically one long movie. Time to start treating it like that.

Bad example, that is a multiple choice poll. There are people who chose more than one choice thus tipping the scale.

The results arn't that skewed. You do realize the DVD sales of the Prequels were huge, right?

If you believe that you are truly dillusional. Fox will put out separate box sets as well as releasing each film on their own.

Fox has absolutely no rights as far as releasing these films goes, George Lucas was smart enough to make sure he would always have those rights.

And obviously he invoked the right to only have one boxed set of all 6 films on DVD. Right...

What? Star Wars had multiple releases on DVD, both in sets and individually, remains to be seen what he will do with blu-ray.

Those who vote the prequels can vote other versions as well of course. What really matters is that they still want the prequels, the 93% is valid.
