From what I heard these still contain all the flaws....boom mics, wrong color sabers, general screw ups etc. So now you'll be able to appreciate these mistakes in 1080p....

And no, I didn't go through the previous 3000 posts...

I didn't know what it truly meant to have completely diametrically opposed viewpoints until I read this post.

I could not disagree with this sentiment more if I devoted the rest of my life to it.

Nice post but I disagree with the highlighted. The outcry was much more substantial that you might remember.

the 2004 set isn't going for much, maybe $30 or so. It's the 2006 DVDs that are more desirable because of the Laserdisc transfers on the bonus discs.

Brand New Interview with Movie Entertainment Now reporter Peter Kats and George Lucas on August 31, 2011!!!

Here's a part of the interview:

Peter Kats: So we heard about the new Obi Wan scream and the blinking Ewoks, why did you make Darth Vader say, "no" twice in the final scene in Return of the Jedi?

George Lucas: First, the audio was always there. The sound of Palpatine's lightning bolts always drowned out the "no" spoken by Vader. In 2009, when we started working on the blu-rays, we were at a time with THX audio mixing equipment to pull out the lost dialogue from Vader. So, now we can finally hear Vader.

Peter Kats: Eventhough the blu-rays have not been released, there is quite a bunch of negative feedback floating around the net regarding the Vader "No" dialogue added to RTJ. Why do you think you needed to add the "No" back into the movie since that scene was so powerful anyway?

George Lucas: It's always more emotional to have a character say "No" after seeing or hearing something very traumatic or stressful. For example, the other night, I was really craving something sweet. I went into the freezer and I saw a pint of Carvel ice cream laying on the bottom shelf. But once I opened up the lid, I saw that there was about one spoonful of Rocky Road [the flavor]. I was so disappointed that there wasn't at least one serving of ice cream left, I literally screamed "no" out loud! I'm surprised I didn't wake up anyone. So if you can imagine someone getting really upset that there actually isn't any ice cream left in the freezer, can you imagine how a father would react to see his son be electrocuted by Darth Sidious? He would obviously say "no."

does anyone have a link to the documentary that came with the original 1997 SE release? It had interviews with everyone from Lucas to Mccallum. Lucas said something like, "I was watching the scene in Jabbas palace, and I thought, wouldn't it be FUNNY if they just started rocking out with horns out of nowhere?" I've been searching for it for years to no avail.

Is it really Lucas doing all these changes? OR is it the super nerds who work for him that give him suggestions? I think it might be the latter, seeing as how he's probably sick of these movies by now (right?)

yes, its real. That scene is forever ruined for me now. I'll now hear "Nooo......NOOOOOOOOO!" even when watching the OT version on DVD. Lucas has officially destroyed the best scene in all of ROTJ....possibly the entire saga.
lol I'm sorry, I just caught that on aicn.com when I knew I should have gone back some pages in this thread. It was just so ridiculous I didn't think it was real. And yep! Now it's ruined for me as well.

And that Obi-Wan scene? LOL WOW. I'm not buying this. This is so ridiculous. Any real fans will agree. If you're one of those people who are still buying into the "Oh but it's George's vision".....you are the ultimate sucker.

was it "The Making of Star Wars"?

The only extra cassette I know of was in the Widescreen SE Collectors Set, and it was The Making of Star Wars (repack) that had been aroiund since the mid-80's

Well, there would still potentially be a big difference... would those extra writings have been written roughly around the time of the original work?

I do feel that there's a difference between what Lucas is doing and a director going back years later to make a director's cut of a movie using footage that was actually filmed during the original production, when said director was just not happy with the original cut.

And even then, I still feel that the original version of the film should still be made available. Likewise if missing pages/chapters of the works of Tolkan or Shakespeare were to surface. They would be exciting discoveries for a number of reasons, but I'm sure many people wouldn't want the original versions of the works to suddenly become unavailable because of it. Apples and Oranges, sir... apples and oranges.

Lmao! Star Wars, the most complex story in cinema? Lol, ok ignoring that, to say that the difference is that if a piece of Hamlet was to be found it wouldn't be shoehorned back into the story. You see we have the finished version of the play and we know Shakespeare would have included it if he wanted to so that doesn't relate to this situation.

Regarding LotR, all kinds of material and alternate versions have beem found by Tolkiens eatate. You can read it all in the History of Middle Earth books. Unlike this situation that material also isn't shoehorned into the book of LOTR. That doesn't relate to this situation either.

Ahhh... the old "Real Fans" thing.

So people in the Anti-Lucas camp, you going to pop up to correct your fellow member about this?

I'm not a sucker for accepting the Artist and Creator's choices. Or for buying something I'll enjoy. That's just a silly comment.

All websites/blogs that have posted articles protesting the change should have a link to this quote as well.
