LOL, he daughter sure seems to pay attention to what fans say...LOL. "Stop making fun of my Daddy!" Oh well...

Anyway, being a independent thinking person, I think I am going to have things my way this fall when I decide how much $$ to give to crazy Uncle George, which is now going to be the bare minimum (PT only).

Not really, as you look to have have a basic small re-encode of the source.
Mine that I put together over many hours are 40+ GB

Simple really, does your shot look like mine?? nope it looks compressed and has no grain at all.

As it stands, most people SEEM to prefer the unaltered versions. I don't mind a lot of the changes in the 1997 or 2004 eds, the dewbacks, the fixed speeders, etc... but things like Jedi Rocks are just so out of the blue and affect the tone so badly it's almost like a Rick Roll in the middle of a movie.
I think the ultimate difference between Star Wars and Star Trek is the fact the creator of Star Trek is no longer with us and it is studio (Paramount) owned. They know what the fans want, and produce accordingly to maximise sales. Hell, they even went into TOS, upgraded the effects brilliantly, but gave seamless branching back to the original effects. They are doing the same for TNG. They WILL release the Directors cuts once they have left a clear window ready for people to be prepared to double dip (plus the need to HD some of the effects shots).

If Fox owned the rights (they must still be beating themselves up about it), this boxset would have been entirely different. They MAY have allowed George to tinker, but only as a bouns Director/Producer/Creator version, alongside the originals. We can but dream.

Don't you want to wait and see what the PT rip will be like.
Wonder what new stuff has been added as well as dialogue??

Good article at joblo.com: http://www.joblo.com/movie-news/reme...ltering-movies

Back in 1988, upset by Ted Turner's purchase and planned colorization of film classics like CITIZEN KANE, George Lucas joined Hollywood directors like Steven Spielberg, James Stewart, Woody Allen and John Huston in Congress testifying for a new legislation that would protect films and ensure the public had access to the director's original cut. Said Lucas at the time:

"People who alter or destroy works of art and our cultural heritage for profit or as an exercise of power are barbarians, and if the laws of the United States continue to condone this behavior, history will surely classify us as a barbaric society. The preservation of our cultural heritage may not seem to be as politically sensitive an issue as 'when life begins' or 'when it should be appropriately terminated,' but it is important because it goes to the heart of what sets mankind apart. Creative expression is at the core of our humanness. Art is a distinctly human endeavor. We must have respect for it if we are to have any respect for the human race.

These current defacements are just the beginning. Today, engineers with their computers can add color to black-and-white movies, change the soundtrack, speed up the pace, and add or subtract material to the philosophical tastes of the copyright holder. Tomorrow, more advanced technology will be able to replace actors with “fresher faces,” or alter dialogue and change the movement of the actor’s lips to match. It will soon be possible to create a new “original” negative with whatever changes or alterations the copyright holder of the moment desires...In the future it will become even easier for old negatives to become lost and be 'replaced' by new altered negatives. This would be a great loss to our society. Our cultural history must not be allowed to be rewritten."

How are home video online sites and magazines going to handle Lucas and these blu-rays - ignore all of this like it didn't happen? "Awesome quality, buy the blu-rays!" Is anyone in the entertainment industry going to grill Lucas and co. for the destruction of his movies? Or no, they are just going to ask safe generic questions because they will get blu-ray freebies and have a chance to interview the Creator or Lucas co.?

This is true. What gives him the artistic right to change another director's film?

Let's wait for a final conclusion from Blu-ray insider or interviewer ,who told you this picture or that picture is taken from BD original disk. what if they are from pirated resources as all we know.Do you have a clue or evidence 100 percent that these are taken from original resources.if You want now Fast five on BD i can bring it for you and all we know still not released and no one have the original disk.Already Bill Gates mentioned in digitalbits that Star wars on BD are promising especially he was astonished by DTSHD master audio.

If the Film Integrity act of 1987 (that Lucas wanted passed) had gone through then he would have broken the Law by making the changes made after Marquand, Kershner, and Brackett died

I would LOVE to experience ANH and Empire in German, specially Peter Cushing's lines.
Of course: http://www.amazon.de/Star-Wars-Complete-Saga-Blu-ray/dp/B004HILOEW/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1314895808&sr=8-1

However, due to space limitations on the discs, only the German dub is lossless:

Yeah, so sad.

I've always been a way bigger fan of Wars than Trek (even though I loved the 2009 Abrams reboot) but I kind of feel like converting to Trekkism, those freaks always get what they want.

It's just such a weird control freak issue to not only make changes as a "directors cut", but to willfully keep the originals from being produced again and make comments that scorn people who want them.

I don't get who he's trying to impress.

There are technical mistakes in The Godfather but it hasn't hurt it's legacy in the slightest.

Yeah! Just because both directors have passed away it gives him the right to mess with their work? I don't think so Both were more capable than Lucas too... Which is why i wish he would get off his arse and let other better directors make Star Wars films!

Hmm, this poses an interesting question, at least interesting to me...

How much of a film can you change and still claim it's from 1977?

Wow.
I also zoom 400% in on my wife and kid for every flawed pixel. She also added two more words that I didn't want to hear.

I was able to return the wife, but not without a huge penalty.
