It's still just DVD PQ.
If content is all that counts, then VHS and VCD will do just as well.

Actually if the law passed he wanted, that would protect movies then what he did would have been against the law for V and IV

Well you could argue Empire was the product of Irvin Kershner, Leigh Brackett and Lawrence Kasdan (as was Jedi to an extent) with Richard Marquand also on the latter ? I'm not denying GL's involvement just it's not like Ep 4 where he was all over it ?

That new saber sound is just kind of loud and blaring. The old one sounded really focused and fit the mood perfectly. These BDs do seem like a rehash of the '04 dvds. Good thing for Ady's work.
Oh they changed that too? Rad.

This really bothers me. If Vader does indeed say "No" twice, that first one makes him sound like a drooling idiot.

This is just behind Han/Greedo on the stupidity meter.

I am not buying this BS. Maybe I'll rent it someday.

Technically no. But these directors, although good ones, were "hired guns". So basically George still call the shots.

I think the point is to have the original versions in the highest quality available. The DVD version is still going to look better than a VHS or VCD.

If only 20th Century Fox had retained the rights to the movies, none of this would have probably ever happened.

I agree, take it with a grain of salt people and just enjoy the HD.

Can't beat $45 for the Complete Saga, not a fan of the packaging but I'll get the singles later on.

Thankfully I grabbed these on the bay a few months ago before the craziness started.

But aren't most directors arguably "hired guns" by the studios in the cases where the studio owns the end product? By that logic, the studio should have just as much right to change the movies that are made by the directors that they hired as Lucas has in changing the movies that he owns that were directed by people that he hired.

Re: Changes to Empire. Kershner already gave Lucas his blessing back in '97.

But regardless, both films were those Director's overseeing Lucas' vision. It was work for hire.

Much like if Marvel hires a writer or artist to work for them. They're working on other people's characters. Simple enough.

RotJ used a hired gun (basically Lucas directing via surrogate).

Kirsh and Kurtz were very much in control of ESB, with Lucas off doing other stuff. Which is why he was disappointed with the final cut, why it went over budget etc...

Regardless of who "owns" (legally or morally) the films, I think that any piece of artistic history should be retained and cherished. And I think people would have a hard time arguing that SW doesn't fit that description -- it's one of the biggest pop-culture successes of the 20th century.

Changes to the film to try to mesh with a story written in 2005? Come on...

so i guess an owner of a painting can add a figure or a recording compagny can add another singer to a artist's song.

Funny that he was unhappy with the end result, but most people think it's the best Star Wars movie.

Judgment you lack, mmmm George!
