Your CAV box hasn't rotted yet? My LD player (Pioneer 804) does a nice little "wheeew-shhhhhh" when starting up certain discs. It's not long for this world. My external AC-3 RF decoder died last year.

So I have plenty of discs for sale.

The CAV box is still working good, knock on wood. Gets a spin once a year too.

My LD player could probably use a tune-up though, both-sides play but at the end of Side 2 it starts acting up, particularly on films nearing 2 hours. Works fine if I stop at the end of Side 1 and turn the disc over manually.

Those aren't the movies Lucas planned in the late 70's and early 80's with Kurtz...those books are nothing more than than officially licensed fan fiction, like the novels "Splinter of the Mind's Eye" and "Han Solo at Star's End" and all the other comics and "extended universe" novels.

The original idea for the "third series" saw a dramatically different Return of the Jedi. The Emperor escaped, Leia was crowned Queen while a desolate Luke watched from the shadows. Leia and Luke were not brother and sister. The third series of films explored Luke's search for his sister, the continuing battle between the Empire and the upstart rebellion, and Luke and his sister ultimately taking down the Emperor in the final film. All this according to the producer of Star Wars and Empire Strikes Back, Gary Kurtz.

Be nice if this was taken as an opportunity to release The Holiday Special as well. Sure it's bad, but fun, but it's part of the saga and should be available.

I have a VHS/Blu Ray Combo player, now I need a laserdisc/Blu Ray combo.

You mention turning it over by hand, I am assuming you do not have a dual sided player, i.e. Pioneer Elite series?

how awesome would this have been? Maybe there's another dimension of reality out there where Marcia and George remained madly in love, and she convinced him to let Spielberg direct this new trilogy while he served as exec. producer. Maybe in that reality, the Knicks won 3 titles in the 90's. That's where I want to be right now.

That would've been awesome indeed, maybe we'll get it someday, pending sales of the blu-ray set and theatrical success of the 3D releases of the 6 films.

Word is the first draft of The Empire Strikes Back has been making the rounds on the web...without Lucasfilm's OK. What didn't make the final cut? A cloned Lando, Luke Skywalker's twin sister Nellith, and a war with the Wampas.

According to Crave Online, Leigh Brackett's 1978 script, known as "Star Wars Sequel," laid to groundwork for the prequels. Brackett died of a cancer a month after finishing the script, leaving George Lucas - and then Lawrence Kasdan - the task of rewriting. What differed in Bracket's first draft?

- Coruscant, the Imperial homeworld, appears and is known as Ton Muund.

- Lando Calrissian is a clone, and his family was displaced by the Clone Wars. Lando's clone lineage began with his great-grandfather.

- Bespin is the homeworld to a wispy alien race. Says Crave:

- Luke must battle Darth Vader to complete his training, instead of doing hard cardio workouts with Yoda strapped to his back. Also, Yoda's name is Minch.

- Chewbacca goes toe-to-toe with a Wampa! Why in the name of Mr. Midi-chlorian (i.e. my pet term for the Star Wars universe's supreme deity) would you can such a hair-raising sequence? Also, the Wampas are irked that the Rebels are on Hoth and invade their base.

- Darth Vader may not be Luke's father, and Luke's twin sister Nellith is hidden somewhere across the galaxy.

I read it as it had troubles playing the second side of the disc, in particular CLV discs, which would run 60 minutes per side. But, whatever...

There was also speculation that when that announcement was made before that it would come out around when the Star Wars: The Clone Wars movie was going to come out. I will believe it when I can pre-order it, same with the first Raiders and Jaws.

seriously! All the other stuff didn't sound too enticing, but what if Luke had been rescued by Han and Chewie instead, and Chewie had to defend both of them from the Wampa while Han dragged Luke to safety. ARRRRGH!

The first paragraph was about the SW set. The second paragraph was about my LD player and LD discs in general, most of my LD collection are CLV discs...

Just a misunderstanding my part. No biggie. I still own the U.S. releases on laserdisc. I would have to say my E.T. box set is my favorite still.

You know something...I have been thinking recently that Lucas should just do a brand new re-boot of the 3 originals using all this brand new F/X tech, and let Spielberg, Jackson and Cameron direct them. Then ALL SIX movies would then match and link together more seamlessly. Can you just imagine all the moolah they would rake in?


But of course make sure that the originals are available.
