Well, his breathing apperatus was still working. It just was fried and labored.

Anakin's lungs couldn't handle a normal environment, hence why he could only unmask in his Rejuvination chamber. Even when the chamber was open, his quarters were lilkely pumping in the same atmosphere. The damage to his costume and the systems that regulated his machines probably allowed in unprocessed air also.

Once Luke removed his helmet, he was completely off the respirator. Quickening his death.

I'm up to Episode V in my current rotation. Guess with the news of the release and all this geeky Star Wars talk it would be appropriate today.

Sorry but I'll say it right now. Lucas is full it. Within two years I'll bet the original cuts come out on Blu-Ray separately from next year's revised versions in order to maximize profits. This is a similar case to Lord of the Rings bringing out the theatrical version before the extended versions. And all of us Star Wars fans, myself included, will end up buying both.

Whatever, I'd rather have these now if it's going to take that long to restore them. It's my choice, if I wanted to wait I could.

But I wont, I doubt most of us will. LOTR is a little different to me cause it's the extended versions with alot more content, where as Star Wars just has some added cgi and a couple scenes.

Unlike Peter Jackson, Lucas doesn't feel the original theatrical versions are worthwhile.

That's why they weren't released on DVD, except as bonus discs featuring non-anamorphic Laserdisc encodes.

I suspect there will be a big pricing war on these. There hasn't been a blu ray release this big ever. Only thing close was probably either Avatar or Dark Knight.

It may not outsell Avatar just because of how much it costs. But $$$ wise I'm sure it'll make more money.

Being born in the 70's i grew up with the Original trilogy and loved them. I have nothing against the Special Edition. What I want to be released isn't the riginal theatrical cuts nor the 2004 editions. I want the Blu-ray to include the final cut ever of each film. No more release with more tweaking, added scenes, music, etc...

How many movies had so many as A New Hope?

So, let Star Wars special a new hope 2004 blu-ray edition the final cut of that movie.

Actually, based on what I've read on here and from what I've heard about fan reactions about which cut is being released, I doubt these will sell anywhere near Avatar numbers. I'd love to be proven wrong, of course.

Yes and how many of those people already own SW, probably having gotten the OT at least 5 times and don't like the PT. The truth is the average movie collector will probably not get this release but will wait instead until a release of just the OT is available.

That's a lot of assumptions to make.

The prequels made a hell of a lot of money, you don't do that without a lot of people liking them.

I do have to wonder how many people REALLY care about owning the theatrical cuts on bluray. Star Wars fans are VERY vocal, but its hard to say if they represent the majority of people's views.

Most of the fans consider Empire Strikes Back to be the best, but metacritic would disagree with that.

Metacritic can disagree as much as it wants, Episode V is the best one. It's the crowning achievement of SW, the most complete film in the saga.

I disagree. Tons of hardcore LOTR fans were ticked off as the theatrical coming out this year while the extended cuts were put on the backburner. Just look at the horrible reviews thousands gave the Blu-Ray LOTR theatrical cuts on Amazonand you'll see. That being said the LOTR theatrical cuts on Blu still had fantastic sales. The hardcore fans who prefer one specific edition will always be outnumberd by the masses of less hardcore buyers.

Heck, by far the most successful Star Wars prequel in theatres was by far the worst Star Wars film ever made, Phantom Menace. I still try to pretend that film doesn't exist.

I think so too. I'd rank them

Empire Strikes Back
Return of the Jedi
A New Hope
Revenge of the Sith
Attack of the Clones
Phantom Menace - the only film that sucked.

I think that had more to do with it being the first SW film in 16 years than any sort of quality relating to the movie.
