My bad; I forgot that my copy of FSWTJ was a Japanese LD. Editing my reply.

Usually prime members get their blu rays delivered on the day of the release(sometimes I get them a day early).

Is anyone else having this problem with this title?
I was for the longest time, but it seems to have corrected itself to the 16th.

Thanks. That did the trick.

Really funny and appropriate for this thread;

Easy fix for this! Just switch the delievery method to like 'free shipping' and then switch it back. It will update your arrival time to the 16th once you change back! Hope that helps!

Well, Lucas is the studio in this case, and he is butchering the work of the directors of ESB and ROTJ. Now you can sit around and claim that Lucas is the really the "CREATOR" or "ARTIST" or whatever else you want to use, but he purposefully removed himself as DIRECTOR for those films. Other people were hired and have their names as director. Lucas himself said that the directors' movie shouldn't be butchered.

Lucas and Kasdan themselves wrote ROTJ, and it could have been very easy to write "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO" into the script. It wasn't, the Director didn't add it, and Lucas (the owner and screenwriter) didn't object. Anybody defending Lucas can never complain about studio involvement ever again.
Very well said. This is a point that doesn't get brought up nearly enough IMO. People tend to say "well, Lucas made these movies so it's his right to change them," but the truth is that a massive crew of talented people made these movies. Obviously Lucas deserves credit for his creation, but he is taking extreme liberties with other people's work when he makes all of these changes. I'm sure a court of law would uphold Lucas's right do whatever he wants with these movies, but from an artistic standpoint I feel like all the other people who put hard work into these movies over the years should be respected.

My original plan was to "put aside my differences" with the 97-2004 changes in order to make a statement. I hate the prequel trilogy with a burning passion, so my need to snub the prequels was greater than my need to have the OT in its unaltered form. So I bit the bullet and ordered the Original Trilogy set (despite being quite tempted by the extras in the complete saga set). However in the face of a new, far greater evil, the original plan had to be altered. The blu-ray Jedi changes crossed the line for me, so now snubbing this entire set has become the most important statement I can make as a responsible nerd.

Here we go, pic-o-rama!

Note, this is the North European set. Unlike possibly the UK set however, this one has no age rating logos anywhere. The packaging, booklet and disc labels are entirely in English. As with the Alien set, I assume packaging will be localized in the German, French, Spanish, Italian etc releases.

The discs are conveniently placed in a digipack stack that you flip like a book. This slides into a thick & sturdy slipbox. I didn't bother to take pics of every disc.

The booklet has a lot of art as well as a list of the extras. Note, I did not take pics of every page in the booklet.

I don't have capabilities to capture digital screenshots, so I can't help anyone there, unfortunately.

Some work went into this, so hope you enjoy!

Slipbox, back

A few pages back (probably about a hundred), there was mention that Lucas discussed changes with Kershner and that certain changes, like adding more to Cloud City, were ones he kind of wanted. This is the only time I've heard this, so I have no idea if it's really true or not.
As far as Jedi, yes, he hired a director for that film as well, but in documentaries it's been said that he ended up being on set much more than he anticipated and had to do a bit of directing himself (I think the guy he hired couldn't really picture the shots that were going to have effects added later), so you could say George co-directed Jedi a bit.

Great article! Somebody put up some more; might I suggest Boba Fett's helmet in the colours of the New Zealand flag or Greedo with a blind man's walking stick? Perhaps Darth Vader wearing a t-shirt that says, "No means NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!"

Thanks so much!

I'm not sure if this is better or worse than the US packaging.
These look like they'd crack awfully easily (or likely be cracked when you open the set new). I have not seen packaging like this since my Sledge Hammer DVD sets.

They won't crack, unless you take a hammer to it or stomp on it.

Thanks for the pics. I didn't realize that's what a digistack is; I wonder whether the discs come off like they do on the My Family Series 1-7 box set. I'm not a big fan of the latter.

You push a little on the center button and the disc lifts right off.

No PT original deleted scenes and no trailers. This really is the complete saga provided you own the DVDs to go alongside. At least LOTR bothered to put those DVDs in the pack. Poor show!

Thanks for the pics.

merlinpants,

Well, that "Changes to the Constitution" deleted scene sounds an awful lot like the scene between Senator Amidala and Palpatine in his office with Anakin presiding over the meeting.

I mean, Amidala specifically uses the phrase "changes to the constitution" in her dialogue in that scene.

And the Rings Trilogy didn't have the trailers either...

You know, with all the dwelling on PQ and changes, fixes, music channels, etc. - I don't think I ever examined the list of extra features on the box set. Now looking at those listings...

Some of them (though they - apparently - just tweaked the cores and left the color largely untouched from 2004).

It looks like they may have fixed some of the contrast issues (which were causing crushed blacks), too. But the color timing is otherwise mostly identical to the 2004 edition (which doesn't match either the original or even the 1997 editions).

That's certainly a disappointment - not the fact that it's fairly close to the 2004 presentation (which I found all right back in 2004), but the fact that they talked about all the work they'd done, only to do the bare minimum and call it a day. It's not like they didn't have a reference point either - the 1997 SE is (based on what I've read, as I've never seen the UOT) actually very close to the UOT in terms of color.

Of course here I'm assuming the screencaps are all accurate. But what are the odds that the colors would match the 2004 timing specifically because of a screen capture error?

At some point you have to look at what information is available, think about what is likely vs. unlikely, and make some assumptions. Otherwise there's not much to discuss (the only confirmed change appears to be Vader's new dialogue, and if everyone had shut up about the rumors, there would've been nothing to confirm). In my experience, most of what is unverified at this point will eventually turn out to be true - however illegal/reprehensible these rips may be, they tend to be a good source of information, even weeks before release.

This Blu-ray set is undoubtedly the best the movies have ever looked (as long as you don't mind the 2004 color timing, that is). But it's still a big disappointment given what we'd come to expect (especially considering how much Lucasfilm communicated about the corrections they made).

Well it looks like all lightsabers now have a bright white core.

But most of the colors are still needlessly different from pre-2004 editions.
