You'll forgive me if I take his opinion with a grain of salt. When someone like Spielberg criticizes GL, I tend to listen. When some random dweeb does it, I pay less attention.
They are renowned because they have made popular movies, but that doesn't mean they are good directors (granted they are better 'actor' director than George Lucas). Just because something is popular, doesn't mean is good art. In fact, good art is mostly unpopular because you need to be educated to understand it and enjoy it. Those director are not even close to, say: Kubrick, Fellini, Truffaut, Kurosawa... etc.

I was originally planning to get the old trilogy on Blu Ray, but now I know I won't even bother. I don't like the prequels at all, so I'll put my money to a better use.

Lucas is having fun changing things again to the original trilogy, well no sir, that's too much for me, I give up. There were already a lot of issues with the Special Editions, but now this is beyond ridiculous.

He didn't even direct the Empire Strikes Back or Return of the Jedi, so frankly he's just being a *beep*. He directed A New Hope, sure, but that never was my favorite one, so my respect for GL is leaning pretty quickly towards 0 now.

Tippett acts as if all his work got replaced, which isn't even remotely the case.

I just find it interesting that Lucas gets all the blame when Dennis Muren has been on board with this since the idea of the Special Editions came up in the mid-90's. He actively called for changes as well. It's wasn't like Lucas told them to do this. He did get council with others within the company about shots that they thought they could improve upon.

Maybe Tippett is bitter that CGI put GO-Motion into obsolescence

In the article to me he comes off as a “I know everything and I’m smarter than you” type.

Good point to say you hate avatar as a special effects guru is pretty lame. At least give it some respect for what is. Don’t have to like the movie.

Nope. Many in ESB still do not.
Fair enough. Though at least they have a core - many of the worst offenders (mostly in ROTJ, AFAICT) had no core whatsoever.

Still, it sure looks as though they spent more times on the new additions than on the fixes…

I’m not saying he’s not hard headed but you’re just amusing he fires people who disagree with him. Do you have proof he does?

That said, it seems the dust has settled and the controversy is behind us. Anyone who would have canceled probably has already done so, and it's gravy from here for Lucasfilm.
It's a slippery slope, since this particular act of revisionism is exclusive to the BD. All discussions about it are also exclusive to the BD edition, so where does that leave it?

Sure the arguments help nobody, but this is easily the hottest topic related to the BD release, it's bound to be discussed.

The man even bashes Mo-Cap. I guess he didn't see Gollum or Rise of the Apes. Sounds like he hates all new forms of FX tech? Weird

I'm with you (and I think we agree on disliking all the revisions and whatnot) but what ends up happening is that select posters (Beast, shelldweller, shaft_windu, etc.) post so frequently and bait others into arguing with them that it always ends badly.

All of us have our ideas about Lucas and the changes, and not a single person's opinion will change from reading this thread. In fact, the arguments probably serve to bolster each person's views and preconceived notions about people who feel the opposite as them.

Let's all have some Jawa Juice. It's been a crazy, crazy week...

For someone who doesn't have time to watch scenes from the movies, you sure seem to have time to upload pictures and continually post here. One would think you have time to check a few scenes, unless you're just grandstanding.
