Yeah. It's clear that Palpatine was playing everyone for power.

By moving the Jedi's to act in an attempt to remove him from power, he got exactly what he wanted. An apperant takeover of the Republic by the Jedis. Hell, the guy's such a devious bastard he even plays off his disfigurement to demonize the Jedi even more. With the Jedi's implicated in a takeover scheme, his triggering of Order 66 and the extermination of the Jedis is met with applause. He was "saving" the Republic from the "EVIL" Jedis. And they gave him just what he wanted, all the power without even a real fight.

Let's review shall we,

Anakin speak's to Palpatine, the chancelor reveal's to Anakin that he is the Sith Lord everyone is looking for.

Anakin goes running to the temple and reveal that information to Mace Windu. The Jedi already concern by the powers that the chancelor as already gather and the fact that he refuse to step down as he should want to force him down. The information that he is the Sith Lord only make's what they wish to do more urgent.

Mace is about to kill Palpatine as he does not trust a jury and a court to judge Palapatine properly at this point. At that monent Mace Windu is walking a find line between dark side and light side. Anakin already push to the edge into believing that Palpatine is the only one who can help him save Padme now look's at Mace as the evil one, along with the Jedi for even trying to attempt the "coup d'etat". It's no long black or white, who is wrong and who is right? Evil as it's mention so many time in the movies is from a certain point of view.

ROTJ was not planned as the final film in the saga, they actually planned to do 7-9 as well then go back and do 1-3, go read the series with Admiral Thrawn that was actually supposed to be 7-9 when Luke restored the Jedi order went to the Dark side and Leia actually had to bring him back to totally purge the Dark side from the Galaxy. Plus it delt with palpatine clones etc

*Facepalms*

The Thrawn trilogy was never in any way, shape, or form what was planned if they ever did 7-9.

And the point still stands, ending the 6th film on a down note would have been foolish.

Anakin definitely learned his lesson after that which is why in EPVI, Vader didn't jump up onto the catwalk after Luke.

I'm extremely hoping this has some updated effects in it, unlike some people here who hope the opposite. Watching the 2004 special edition is sure an improvement over the previous Jabba the Hutt scene in A New Hope, but it still looks a bit shabby, especially when Solo walks behind Jabba. He just looks like a complete fake part of the scene that doesn't belong there.

Also about Kurtz leaving Return of the Jedi over a fallout between him and Lucas seems fair, but over what I've heard it was, reintroducing the Death Star, is quite an absurd move. If what I've read is true, surely the Empire would rebuild the 'utimate power in the galaxy' or whatever it was and just block off that singled weakness, meaning Lucas would of made the correct decision on that one. No offence to Kurtz, but he's not worked on any succesful projects other than Star Wars and The Empire Strike Back, wheras George Lucas has the entire 6 film Star Wars saga under his belt, along with 4 Indiana Jones movies. I think Kurtz may have added to the production, but he was definatly not the mastermind behind Star Wars as he would have us believe.

Highly looking forward to buying this set, the one Lucas announced, without the original theatrical cuts, as I personally couldn't care much about the minor differences between them (to me Han shooting first doesn't effect the story, and Jabba's appearance links together the series a bit better, my opinion). Of course this is just my opinion, but if I'm actually incorrect (maybe about Kurtz, not that sure it's true) don't tie me down naked to a flaming pile of money, I don't wish to embrace my innate Huttness

Indeed. I don't really see the problem of the second Death Star.

The first one worked fine, it just had a minor exploitable flaw to deal with.

Plus we have to remember that the original plan for the 3rd Act was Coruscant (The Imperial Capital, which was unnamed at that time), but was imposssible due to the level of special effects at the time. And the back-up of the Emperor's Throne Room in a cavern on a lava planet was likewise tossed for special effects reasons. Using the Death Star II also connects it better to the Space and Groud battles that were going on. So I think it works well enough. Thankfully we eventually got Corsurant and the Mustafar in the Prequels.

Wow. You've been defending the series that long? I rarely heard a bad word uttered about the SW universe prior to 1999, other than it was the realm of geeks who wouldn't move out of their parent's homes--almost never an attack on the films themselves. About 85-90% of the people I talked to about SW considered themselves at least casual fans. The lines in the fanbase would start to blur (and eventually fracture into the love or hate parties) once TPM hit the scene. I didn't see a lot of outright hatred of SW thou until AOtC came out. That was when people were starting to get really pissed off.

But I gotta say:
If I ever make a movie, I will have my dashing hero pull out his blaster and pulverize the face of the opposing alien before the creature can even get his fingers around the grip of his gun. Then my hero will wink at the camera as he walks off screen.

LOL At the Star Wars convention yesterday I saw the guy who played Greedo. Every time I walked by he was the only guy with nobody in line for an autograph. Must suck to be in such a huge movie and die in the first scene you're in.

On another note Anthony Daniels (C3PO) is an amazing speaker/entertainer. The most fun I had at the event was a one hour live interview he did in the audatorium. He was fantastic.

Wow... just looked at your collection and it's amazing. I'm still considering buying a few of those sideshow collectibles. The Boba Fett life-size bust I'm strongly considering. Possibly C-3PO as well.

At Celebration V they unfortunately didn't have much in the way of sideshow collectibles. Gentle Giant was there though with a nice selection.

When we were kids, my little brother's favorite action figures were his R2D2 (he called it "Ar Dee Two Two") and his Greedo. He took that little green dude everywhere.

What's the bet Lucas will release the original versions on BD as soon as sales of the specials start to dwindle? Call me a cynic, but this guy doesn't miss a trick to cash in on his work for the billionth time.
