Empire of Dreams is a great documentary, not included among the all-new featurettes in this new set. If you like your bonus features, you need to keep everything you've got -- the 2004 DVDs didn't carry over the LaserDisc extras either, so you need to keep everything if you're a completist or just generally enjoy Star Wars interviews and behind the scenes material.

He doesn't look like either the digital version in The Phantom Menace, or the puppet in Return of the Jedi? He also never look part of the space he's supposed to be in, and the information received in the scene is redundant. Tell me why this scene was put back in again?

Yes but to create "symmetry" between the PT's and OT's, Yoda would be the best place to place to start. He is one of the only characters that are not the exact same between them (R2, C3PO, Chewie, Vader are all the exact same).

We've got GL beating us with the sledgehammer that is Vader's "Noooooooooooo!!!!!!!!", and you're asking why a redundant scene was put back in?

If we've learned anything over the past few decades it's that there's often precious little rhyme or reason to what GL considers a 'real purpose'.

I always suspected it's because they are easier to kill without creating too much of a emotion on a younger crowd. If you look at the history of the 6 movies, it's clear Lucas always tried to keep at minimum the the killing of humans.....sort of. There are exception when you have ships exploding and such but even then, it's remote, you know there are humans in there but the impact is not the same. With having the guys in stormtrooper suite, the heroes can blast them away and don't look too much like killers but like heroes because the troopers are impersonal. You will notice the prequels have mostly robots being hack in pieces by the Jedi and the clones. It's only my opinion but I think that is what he was trying to do.

Well, the lunacy of one change doesn't make some of the other, earlier ones, valid and sane .

while i have no problem with puppet Yoda in Episodes V & VI (Episode ! Yoda was hilariously bad), I would welcome a digital Yoda if that change was ever made.

Never say ... ever?

Things can happen, and we still have a 3D set to look forward to. I wouldn't mind the change. In fact, it would almost seem like an expectation. CGI Yoda blows out the puppet anyday.

Actually, I really like this fan-manip. I think it's well done, and that he blends in with the scene very well. All that was changed was the head. The original body and even the hairs on his head are the original puppet. It's just meant to be an example anyway, not a movie-quality ILM job. Besides, the real digital Yoda would be made to blend in if it was actually done. Though I doubt it ever would be.

I know Puppet-Yoda is sacred. I understand and I get it. But realistically, after being spoiled with Digital-Yoda, who is capable of a wider emotional range of acting and lip-syncing, the puppet Yoda will stand out like a sore thumb when the films are watched consecutively.

As long as everyoe keeps bringing it up, I'm sure Lucas will feel like it's something that needs to be done: and then it will happen.

Yeah, I agree. I think in the making-of doc on TPM, when Lucas is showing the full-size model of the Battle Droid to Spielberg, he explains that he is using droids so that he doesn't have to show Jedi's slicing up people/aliens/stormtroopers for the whole film.

You are right! Now that you mention this I remember that part, I haven't watch the special features in years.

Maybe he could blue screen a Yoda puppet into the prequels...

yeah, that makes no sense and so what.

Im actually concerned that bluray will make original Yoda look terribly dated. I have seen screenshots and they make Yoda look sooo fake.

Having said that, I prefer the puppet.
