Oh, I have no doubt. It's going to be glorious.
About the set, do you think Lucas will offer digital copies in the set as well? Only reason I'm asking is because I'm trying to imagine how many discs are going to be in this thing. Six for the films alone. I would say three special features blu ray discs at maximum...maybe? That's nine and then if he offer two disc with the digital copies of each film, that's eleven. Odd number.... He wouldn't do a blu ray supplement disc for each film would he? That's a twelve disc set right there. Last edited by Jumpman; 08-16-2010 at 09:19 AM. |

How much space does a digital copy take up on a disc? I don't know off the top of my head... is there room to cram multiples onto one disc? I can't imagine how many discs they will try to cram into each snapcase, the set could get pretty crowded. |

I hope the complete set is done with 7.1 DTS-MA and not just 5.1 or 5.1 True Dolby Digital EX.
I know George loved Dolby digital before since it was required on all DVDs. I suppose I could live with a good 6.1 mix. Toy Story 2 is a good example of a awesome EX mix that I would not mind in the star wars set. I'd just think that george would really make it awesome with some 7.1 effects that are possible now that were not available before. Could you imagine for once hearing something zig zag from the back left to the front right speakers? I couldn't careless what editing is done. Sure it ruins the 'original' but I think the idea is expressed better using current technology. |

court,
I could see one disc for each trilogy easily but it really all depends if he also includes the supplement material from the Prequel DVDs and the '04 Original Trilogy boxset. If he includes all that supplement material in SD, I can see two discs worth of supplement material for the whole set. The previous released stuff on one disc and the new supplement material on the second disc. Now, if he includes all the supplement material from those discs but upgrades all of it to HD, then I see a supplement disc for each film easily. It just all depends if he decides to include all the stuff we already have on DVD or not. I mean, that's alot of material. Documentaries, featurettes, the online documentaries, the deleted scenes, the trailers, music videos, tv spots. Could they actually fit four discs worth of supplement material in SD on one blu ray disc...or four discs worth of supplement material but upgraded to HD on one blu ray disc? Should be a reference AQ release, (that should be a given for the PT). Anything less will not do. |

A BD-50 can hold at least 15 hours of SD content with multichannel (standard, compressed) audio, maybe more, depending on bitrate; that's a lot of room for supplemental material. Last edited by mjbethancourt; 08-16-2010 at 09:53 AM. |

court,
I think I tend to agree with you. But you know the outcry will happen if Lucas doesn't include all of that stuff. The only reason I was really asking was because Bill Hunt on his site, I think, a couple of years ago pointed to this very same issue, saying he had heard it through the grapevine that the supplement material on the boxset would be totally different from the DVDs that are out now. Now, you may ask why would he post that rumor from a couple of years ago (I wish I could find the damn link)...and the answer is that it's been floated around the net for a while that Lucas has been working on the Saga for an eventual boxset release ever since Episode III was released on home video. That's five years he's been working on it...if rumors are to be true (and I personally think they are...that's a whole other story). |

GL likes to take his time with his work. Star Wars is his magnum opus, he's never been one to rush anything out, that's one of the things he specifically left behind when he split ways with the studio system. Quote:

court,
If true and he's been working on this boxset for at least 5 years, this thing will be epic. And personally, I always assumed that it would be because this will be the first time he's been able to release the films as ONE SAGA instead of two separate trilogies. I think, to him, that's going to be a big deal. |

court,
Agreed. PeterTHX, a few pages back, pointed to his marketing history on home video. It's not as greedy as people think it is. Not saying he wouldn't release them again on Blu Ray in the distant future but personally, as you say in his professional lifetime, I don't see it. He's working on Clone Wars. He's got Red Tails to finish up to be release theatrically some time. Dude's got other things on his plate besides these six films. Clone Wars has become a serious priority...more than fans think. I don't see him revisiting Star Wars on Blu Ray after it's release next fall for at least five years, if he even does it at all. As an aside, I'm so happy I didn't jump the gun and sell my Star Wars DVDs. Like you, I just feel that supplement material will be totally different than what we have now and material on those DVDs were fantastic. |

P.S.: I'm pretty excited to see how 'Red Tails' turns out. Isn't that supposed to be his 3D test-run, before going ahead with the 'Star Wars 3D' project? Last edited by mjbethancourt; 08-16-2010 at 10:34 AM. |

I think almost all the docs on the previous DVD release were shot on HD cameras, especially the main ones (The Beginning, From Puppets to Pixels, Within a Minute and Empire of Dreams). It's unlikely that these docs will be presented in SD if they're included.

Even if he did flog releases, (which he doesn't), when considering just how many of the most in-demand film properties in the world are Lucasfilm properties, the man is peerless, it's ridiculous to hold him the same standard as any other film producer in the business today; he literally owns 9 of the most popular and beloved films of all time, if he didn't keep them continually released in the market, he would be falling behind demand. How many 33-year-old movies are syndicated by every cable channel that can afford them? How many can be assured that even after so many years of continuously being in the marketplace, they can press a new release and be the top selling title for weeks?
court, Absolutely on the money. As for Red Tails, no it's not in 3D. But, he's had it on the back burner for over twenty years. Star Wars and his laziness got in the way. And actually, it's ten of the most beloved films of all time...if you include Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. Shot me, I loved it. aiman, Actually, all the material on the DVDs now were shot with HD cameras. So, technically, he could upgrade all of that to HD on the set. But again, I'm not seeing it. court and I agree that this set will come with entirely new supplements. We may see a few things ported over, but not all the stuff. Again, should be interesting. |
