I'm not closing the door on this though, although the reviews will have to be stellar (no pun intended) to get me to change my mind. If the sound is incredible and the PQ is reference then I may well relent and reorder.

Until then, as someone who grew up watching the VHS copies endlessly during the 80's and 90's, my upscaled 2006 DVD's of the OT look great and absolutely satisfy me on the rare occasions I watch them so I am in no rush for this, especially as the changes have quelled my excitement if not my total desire to own them.
Some pages back somebody who got a hold of the set already said the OT is using older transfers so I think you can forget about "reference quality PQ".

I am getting the The Original Trilogy Box Set. I wanted to get the Complete Saga, but alas, money and other priorities are telling me that it will just be the Original Trilogy for now. In the future I will get the other three movies.

I thought it was very strange that FSWTJ got left off. As a completist and a fan of good special features on films I love, I would have preferred that all previous extras were included on this set, which could have been done by dumping the 501st doc, changing Disc 8 to a BD-50(the only BD-25 on set), and including a 10th disc on the set. We would have received the best of both worlds. Two discs of all new special features and two discs of all previously-released special features. Probably another $10 for the set.

On the other hand, if you go through each previously-released extra left off the new set, they can come up with fairly decent excuses as to why they left them off, except FSWTJ. I still wish all of the following had been included but looking at each special feature left off:

______

'93 Definitive Collection LD extras-somewhat dry and most of the material is covered in other docs and commentaries. Good for the completist.

Lucas/Maltin interview from the '95 Faces set-again, dry and only 20 minutes long with nothing we haven't heard before. Good only for completists like me.

Making of the Special Edition from the '97 VHS/LD sets-30 minutes long and correct me if I'm wrong, much of the important snippets are repeated on the "Dewback" feature on the BD set. I could be wrong on this one. It would have been appropriate to the set considering this set contains the revised OT.

-4 bonus DVD's from OT and PT, "Star Wars: A Musical Journey" DVD, "Story of Star Wars" bonus DVD from Wal-Mart, and R2D2 mockumentary DVD-Lucasfilm would likely make the case that they're still viewable on our Blu-ray players and they weren't going to upgrade classic extras to HD anyway. Then again, with the '04 bonus DVD out of print, consumers purchasing the new set without owning the 2004 set wouldn't get to view these features without resorting to Ebay or private sellers on Amazon.

______

That leaves:

-From Star Wars to Jedi-with 40 minutes of exclusive material and interviews not found elsewhere, I can't find a legitimate excuse for leaving this one off. In addition to that, the other three made the set and they oddly dedicated 84 minutes to the 501st costuming group on Disc 9 while leaving this one behind on VHS/LD...

No good reason for that one.

Maybe they're saving it as an appropriate special feature for a future UOT set.

In a way I regret not pre-ordering so that I could cancel...
But no, I'm not getting it. I have patience - heck, I even didn't get the LOTR:EE set yet (waiting for the price to dip lower). I have a very sneaking suspicion this will not be the last blu version of SW, 3D or otherwise. Meanwhile I still have the DVDs. And since I know GL hasn't been to my house lately, I know for sure it hasn't been altered further...

No, it's because it directly contradicts the current Lucas-imposed orthodoxy. Just like an old Soviet photo album, anything that goes against the party line must be erased. Leon Trotsky was never at that Politburo meeting, Han never shot first, and Star Wars was always about Anakin/Darth Vader. However as for the other features not carried over, I agree with your reasoning.

A couple shots of CGI Yoda in TPM, and a couple of Maul. Has a digital look to it for sure, but looks pretty good. Will have some more from Sith shortly, and AOTC later. Any scenes or specific sections for screen shots let me know.

I actually cannot believe I'm saying this, but I'm going to buy the Prequel trilogy set. Yes, that is not a typo. They really look like they're going to be the definitive editions of those movies.

I've got decent quality versions of the OT, and it doesn't look like they did a very good job remastering those anyway, plus I'm definitely against that one new change (I won't specifically mention it or start another argument about it). The only extras on the set that really interest me is the deleted scenes, and even then I'll likely only want to see them once out of curiosity.

Oh, they'll still buy it. Then they'll post some BS excuse that they received it as a "gift" from their girlfriend, wife, family member, etc.

The infidel invaders are committing suicide at the gates of Baghdad, and everybody loves the new changes to Star Wars and will buy them five at a time!

Thanks. I'd love to see the CGI Yoda from when the scenes ("Confer on you the level of Jedi Knight the council does.") when Kenobi is knighted near the end of TPM, and also Yoda's close up shot from the Naboo Victory Parade at the very end.

Great images, but man oh man blu-ray doesn't do the prosthetic horns any favors. They look distractingly fake now lol.

It still kills me that they've de-grained this film, but those shots look mesmerizing on my hdtv, so I'm definitely in for the prequels.
