I despised the beginning of ROTJ I have to admit, the only redeeming part was Leia in the slave bikini. I hate how the beginning drags and I hate Jedi rocks, I have to agree with the above there - its easily one of the worst things about Star Wars. The film was about Luke coming to terms with Vader being his father and facing him at the end. The lightsaber duel in front of the Emperor is a really powerful scene, hindered only by the new "noooo" addition that follows afterwards.

As for AOTC, I don't get all the hate and negativity. Sure, the romance aspect could have been better and much more convincing; but I found it more convincing than that of the one in Casino Royale for example (despite being an excellent film). I like the action sequences, I like the characters. I actually think HC did a great job of being an arragont-cocky, whiny teenager. It then impressed me how his character changed in ROTS to someone who was more mature.
I wonder if George is trying to get us to hate the OT so we can praise him for the wonderful world of the prequels.

The only thing for me that truly save the movie in the end, Luke, Vader and the Emperor...those scenes were great.
I turned 13 in 83 and looked forward to Jedi very, very much (since I grew up on SW). I didn't like Jedi at all. The ewoks killed it for me. Plus, I wanted Luke to kill Vader, not save him! I think I was in denial about Vader being Lukes dad.

Now, as an adult, I'm fine with Ewoks, Jar Jar, and all the silly stuff. This is a kids movie and so I let it be what it is. Plus, there is so much more depth to the dialog and story that I missed as a kid. I see Anakin instead of just Vader.

Nobody seems to pick up on this, but it's obvious that Ben blew their house up while he was distracting Luke.
Ever played KOTOR- morally questionable acts for the greater good are what being a Jedi is all about.
Har har. I suppose he also killed all of the Jawas with the blaster hidden under his robe?

If so, I'm ok with that change. That character looked pretty weird.

*Edit* Seem like Yaddle is there - oh well. Always seemed strange to me.

You may be right; all of the changes are certainly not helping the OT.

I can't understand how GL will ever be successful in making the OT "look" like the PT. The one simple thing he could do (re-rotoscoping all the OT lightsabres) he hasn't done, so I'm confused. Also, I always felt that one really cool change to make ANH sound like all the others would be to get James Earl Jones back to re-do all of the Vader dialogue in the first Star Wars. it'd be an easy looping session, since no one would have to worry about lip synching, but I suppose GL is too cheap to pay JEJ twice, even though he only made $7,000 for the first movie.

Yeah, why did they cut this scene? It works great for the character. Much better than Greedo shooting first, that's for sure

Probably because Han came off as whiny and Ford's acting was worse than the Blade Runner voice overs.

Harrison Ford's acting in most of the OT is generally bad anyway. So the deleted scenes arn't helping that image.

Maybe they had more than one take? The timing is off but maybe some music may have helped with that and some background ambiance.

Here are some of the things that baffle me. I was 8 in 1983 when I first saw Starwars, Saw it at a friends birthday party in october and then saw ESB and ROTJ the following summer I think.
For me it was always, and still is, all about the sci-fi action. The space battles and lightsaber fights. I never cared about well written dialogue when watching them, and I still dont. ESB was always the one with most talking and down time, and so was always the one I liked least.

ROTJ was too much of a kid movie ? they all were, they are, they are supposed to be.
After 'its a trap' when Millenium Falcon turns into the swarm of Tie Fighters/interceptors is one of my top fight sequences ever. That alone would be enough to place ROTJ in the number 2 spot right behind AOTC.
And that is also why AOTC is my favorite. The best space scene of the series 'seismic charges' the best lightsaber scenes 'obi wan-jango' and 'anakin-dokuu'.

So I am wondering.. Those of you who prefer ESB, did you always ? or did you outgrow the films that were primarily action based ??
