I never follow the EU stuff. But I'm pretty sure the screenplay says that Lobot is part cyborg, maybe it was covered in the novelization as well. But I have not read that in 10 years.
I know you don't care.

Especially since they had to give every background member of the Cantina and Jabba's Palace some elaborate backstory.

Plus they killed Chewbacca. Who deserved a better end than being crushed by a moon to save Solo's awful kid.
Poor poor Chewie. What was Solo's kid named again, Richard?

I read the Heir to the Empire series, only because I held out hope that there would be Episodes VII, VIII, and IX and thought these would become those movies.

I know you don't care.
The only thing I do care about is what was in the movies. Or at least shot for the movies and left on the cutting room floor. I've read that John Hollis actually had quite a bit of dialogue they cut out in post-production when they decided retroactively to make his character mute. Amazingly they pulled it off aside from the silent "Move!" order he mouths after Lando has him take the Imperial troops hostage. I'll be curious to see if the "Lobot's Capture" deleted scene on the Blu-rays features any dialogue for the dude.

Weren't Hollis' lines cut because they re-cut the final attack sequence so Luke only made one attack run as apposed to two? Which was Marsha's idea.

WRONG!!!

If it's the deleted scene that I think it is... I doubt that it does.

[Show spoiler]A scene cut from The Empire Strikes Back depicted a critically injured Lobot being carried away by several men wearing white masks. This was meant to serve as Lobot's death scene, but it was ultimately removed by the filmmakers because there was a possibility that the character would appear in the following film, Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi.

Lobot's from Empire Strikes Back. Not A New Hope. Lobot's lines were cut because they decided that the Cyborg Interface had made him a mute.
Quote:
A character serving as Lando Calrissian's assistant was present in most of the original screenplays of The Empire Strikes Back, and many production paintings depicted this character as a tall, regal dark-skinned woman. One of the later drafts of the script established this character as a cyborg, and it was then that actor John Hollis was selected for the role by the filmmakers. Hollis was originally only hired for a week's worth of work, but because of the film's extended shooting schedule, he remained on the Bespin set at Elstree Studios for ten weeks.

Throughout most of the film's production, Lobot was only referred to as "Lando's aide" and the character was to have a great deal of dialogue, mostly with Calrissian. However, the filmmakers decided that the character had been lobotomized as a result of the installation of his cybernetic implant, causing him to become a mute. This decision reportedly did not concern Hollis. As a reference to this change, the character was named "Lobot," a corruption of the word "lobotomy." The cybernetic implant prop Hollis wore on his head was completely battery-powered and was connected to a spring clip that was fit around the actor's head. However, the prop was quite heavy and uncomfortable for Hollis to wear.

Oh jeezz. I somehow thought he was talking about one of the y-wing pilots that said 'loosen up'. I think I need to have my alzheimers checked.

Do you see egg all over my face?

Besides, I mixed up Lobot, Hootkins, and Dutch.

That's too bad. I'd love to have all the footage of him speaking to Lando. Of course I'd like to have tons of deleted footage from the films that I doubt will ever see the light of day(the extended lightsaber duels in Episodes I & II and Anakin's original turn to the Dark Side in Episode III for starters).

I think the deleted footage reveals the headset to be manufactured by turtle beach.
