I HAVE A QUESTION ON THE DVD OF A NEW HOPE:

The excitement of the blu-ray release made me wanna watch some Star Wars the other night so I popped in A New Hope (special edition dvd) and it seems like most of the surround music and effects are all in the right surround speaker or louder in the right surround. I thought it might be the speaker just being louder than the left one but I swapped them around and nope, same thing of having right surround speaker dominate surrounds. I know of the problem of the reversed surround tracks on this release but I thought that only effected the trench run portion of the movie? Could somebody who has this pop it in and see if most of the music in the surrounds sounds like it's coming from the right surround?

Went back a few pages and haven't seen this discussed..don't know if we're in for any more "tweaks" to the OT, but if that is the case I REALLY hope they get the light sabre effects in the OT straightened out, especially those in ANH. That's something that has always bugged me.

I watched it a few months ago on my 7.1 system and didn't notice it. Have you calibrated your receiver and speakers?

I agree. Luke's white lightsaber, instead of blue, has always bothered me as well.

I'm a little scared now all of a sudden. It was said that they'll use the 1997 masters for the Blu-ray version. While looking at my Return of the Jedi special edition soundtrack, the one release in 1997 as a ''digibook'' - with the bronze special poster on it, on page 24 there's a picture of the Luke Vader duel and Vader's lightsaber is already pink. It never occured to me7 years before the DVD versions that pink color, now will have to check my old VHS editions to check if his saber was indeed pink and didn't notice before today.

I don't think unit for unit they will match Avatar. But since it's 6 movies I bet it definately moves 1/6 of the # of units. Which is what I meant, even though
I may of not been clear.

Avatar had alot going for it, big movie of the moment, had a dvd in it, priced affordably. I know alot of people who bought it that don't even have bluray players just cause it was so close in price to the dvd.

I loved Phantom Menace, the beginning of the galactic coup is awesome. Plus it has the Queen and Darth Maul.

Yes, I've run audyssey and I too have 7.1, well actually 7.2. I tried turning up the level on the left surround to see if that would help but it didn't. It's easily noticeable on things like cantina scenes as the music sounds mostly on the right side, atleast for surrounds. Same goes for the twin sunsets scene and many others.

You'd rank "Attack of the Clones" before "Return of the Jedi"?

My list isn't that different to yours.

1. The Empire Strikes Back
2. A New Hope
3. Revenge of the Sith
4. Return of the Jedi
5. Attack of the Clones
6. The Phantom Menace

I'd hold Episodes I and II on an equal level, but "Clones" gets the edge because of Jango Fett and Yoda's lightsaber duel, and "Phantom Menace" gets knocked down a couple pegs due to Jar Jar.

Yep. I love it also. Though I am not a huge fan of Maul. Jar Jar rocks though.

I did some googling and it seems the entire score for the movie is reversed in the surrounds which seems likely to be causing the issue for me. It's very distracting since I can hear the same music score out of the right surround that is coming from the front left speaker. That score SHOULD be coming from the front left speaker as it is and left surround speaker, NOT the right surround speaker. The screwed up way it is now makes it where some music is blaring from the left front and the right side surround so it's completely throwing the balance off. I tested Empire and it didn't seem to have the problem and seemed balanced.

Yeah, I figured it had to do something with the way they did the Dolby mix for the DVD release of ANH since everything was calibrated properly for you. I'll watch ANH in the next couple weeks so I can witness it myself. I don't usually watch the Star Wars films from beginning to end, since I have seen IV-VI more than 100 times, so that's probably why I didn't notice the channel reversal.

The Phantom Menace better than ROTJ AND ROTS? Definitely disagree there.

RotS suffers on a lot of lists simply for being frankly depressing.

I know it's the movie that I saw the least times in the theater. And has the least viewings at home.

TPM - 15/20 Times (It's been way too many years to recall the exact count. Closer to 20.)
AotC - 10 Times
RotS - 3 Times

My ranking of the six films has remained unchanged since ROTS was released:

1 - The Empire Strikes Back
2 - A New Hope
3 - Return of the Jedi
4 - Revenge of the Sith
5 - The Phantom Menace
6 - Attack of the Clones

I don't know whether or not this has been posted on here yet, but just in case:

The Interviews with George Lucas of Celebration V

I really do love this guy. He is charming and funny.
