Just "Star Wars".

The only real differences I see are the overall style, which is OK since they take place in very different time periods.

Yeah, I remember a scene between him and Spielberg, which went something like this...

GL: "I did "More American Graffiti", it made ten cents."
SS: "Really?"
GL: "Yeah, so you can overdo these kinds of things. It is possible."

And I care what he thinks.... why? It's just another opinion. A bitter one at that.

Don't know much about movie making, do you? First cuts often get such reactions.

That's because they're often incredibly long (3 1/2 hours) and filled with unfinished effects.

Even Lucas wasn't sure about the first cut. Might want to check out The Beginning documentary.
What do you mean you don't see the differences? You have eyes and ears don't you? The writing in the PT is sloppier, lifeless at times, and overall dull. Granted, George must have woken up a little before Revenge of the Sith, because it's actually got some conflict and tension in it. It almost went back to George's roots. Almost, but not quite.

And Gary Kurtz produced two of franchises greatest films. IV and V. VI was a slight decline in quality, due to the fact that George had begun turning the series into his own personal money tree. Gary Kurtz's testimony against Lucas is not an opinion man. It's fact, and others who have worked with George have attested to that.

Final Cut on Phantom Menace still blows. For instance, can you tell me who the main character in The Phantom Menace is?

It's not uncommon in fantasy films. Which Star Wars fits the genre better than it does Sci-Fi. Since it defies Science constantly.

Plus the concept isn't really that unbelievable in real life. You have these great loves that end in tragic ways. My elderly Aunt and Uncle were deeply in love. After she was accidentally killed (long story), he lost the will to live and passed away a short time later.
it kind of craps on her character. makes her seem really weak. most of the fantasy involves feats of strength and ability not feats of weakness.

She got choked, I think everyone would've been just fine if it was just that.
Instead she's a single mom who dies because the father turns out to be a hunk of crap. Where would reality TV be if all women were so weak.

I think what happened is that back in January when I ordered the set the release date was probably Sep 27. I cancelled it now and re-ordered it and now it says delivery estimate Sep 16, so i'm all set

Yeah, I remember when Walter Matthau died, and Jack Lemmon followed less than a year later. The two were best friends for over 30 years.

I don't think it makes her seem weak. It makes her love for Anakin seem tragic.

She could have avoided all of this... but she loved him too much. Flaws and all. She wasn't weak, she was human.

I don't think you can really judge her giving up on life as a rejection of her children. More of a tragic loss for the life she wanted with Anakin.

Quick question...

Ive heard that George Lucas didn't even come up with the whole storyarc behind Star Wars. Is this true? Does it apply only to return of the Jedi?

Yes... I am not a star wars fan so I dont know what to believe. Ive been hearing it ever since i was 6 years old that some or all of the movies weren't created by Mr. Lucas.

B) Padme was a queen and a senator and a warrior. Not a Winston Churchill 'fight from a bunker' type warrior but a blaster in hand type warrior. But we're supposed to believe this noble character would orphan her newborn twins? Because she just couldn't go on without her man?

Please.

I'm not up to date on feminist scholarship but I believe the technical term for that is 'bullshit'.

+1

Anakin whined throughout the entire movie in AOTC!

So you think love is a weakness? I guess that's your opinion, but its obviously not George Lucas'.

George supposedly had an entire storyline in mind, and he did as he had thousands of pages of notes at one point or another. However, as the films were made, lot of great changes took place, and at times, he literally just ended making stuff up as he went along. Luke and Leia being relatives is an example of this.

George only directed the original film and the prequels. Episodes V and VI were directed by Irvin Kershner and Richard Marquand respectively. Some people do make the error in believing it was Lucas who directed those pictures, though.

Testimony? Riiiiight. It's still his opinion. That's all. And a biased and bitter one.
You don't see Lucas making cheap digs at Kurtz. Who's the better man?

Your opinion my friend. It's still my favorite film of the entire Saga. Peace.

So funny, I was just talking about this with my friends yesterday. No way she would bag out on her kids and just call it quits.
