I don't even remember my first viewing of Star Wars. I remember watching them for the Special Edition release (I was 13), but before that - Star Wars was just something I'd always known. I must have watched them when I was really little. I'd love to see the expression on my little face when I first heard the "reveal". Must have been quite a shock.
I remember visiting my cousin after I saw the trilogy and we talked about SW all day long. Suddenly his mom came into his room and I was like "Hey, auntie! Did you know that Darth Vader is Luke's father?! And she's like "Dude, you're 17 years late!" Hahaha. I didn't get it back then, but looking back now it was such a genuine great moment haha

I remember seeing ROTJ in theaters with my dad. That's one of my favorite memories as a kid, and why I take my son to the movies all the time.

I can't wait til next week!

That was to expect. Wasn't their latest DVD release uncut, too?

No, every version of AOTC up to this have had the Jango butt cut. I guess that makes thus a worthy purchase for anyone in the Uk as it hasn't been available this way before.

BONUS DISC THREE

THE MAKING OF STAR WARS (1977, Apx: 49 Minutes)

Learn the incredible behind-the-scenes story of how the original Star Wars movie was brought to the big screen in this fascinating documentary hosted by C-3PO and R2-D2. Includes interviews with George Lucas and appearances by Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher.

THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK: SPFX (1980, Apx: 48 Minutes)

Learn the secrets of making movies in a galaxy far, far away. Hosted by Mark Hamill, this revealing documentary offers behind-the-scenes glimpses into the amazing special effects that transformed George Lucas’ vision for Star Wars and The Empire Strikes Back into reality.

CLASSIC CREATURES: RETURN OF THE JEDI (1983, Apx:48 Minutes)

Go behind the scenes--and into the costumes--as production footage from Return of the Jedi is interspersed with vintage monster movie clips in this in-depth exploration of the painstaking techniques utilised by George Lucas to create the classic creatures and characters seen in the film. Hosted and narrated by Carrie Fisher and Billie Dee Williams.

ANATOMY OF A DEWBACK (1997, Apx: 26 Minutes)

See how some of the special effects in Star Wars became even more special two decades later. George Lucas explains and demonstrates how his team transformed the original dewback creatures from immovable rubber puppets (in the original 1977 release) to seemingly living, breathing creatures for the Star Wars 1997 Special Edition update.

STAR WARRIORS (2007, Apx: 84 Minutes)

Some Star Wars fans want to collect action figures... these fans want to be action figures. A tribute to the 501st Legion, a global organisation of Star Wars costume enthusiasts, this insightful documentary shows how the super-fan club promotes interest in the films through charity and volunteer work at fundraisers and high-profile special events around the world.

STAR WARS TECH (2007, Apx: 46 Minutes)

Exploring the technical aspects of Star Wars vehicles, weapons and gadgetry, Star Wars Tech consults leading scientists in the fields of physics, prosthetics, lasers, engineering and astronomy to examine the plausibility of Star Wars technology based on science as we know it today.

A CONVERSATION WITH THE MASTERS: THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK 30 YEARS LATER (2010, Apx: 25 Minutes)

George Lucas, Irvin Kershner, Lawrence Kasdan and John Williams look back on the making of The Empire Strikes Back in this in-depth retrospective from Lucasfilm created to help commemorate the 30th anniversary of the movie.

STAR WARS SPOOFS (2011, Apx: 91 Minutes)--The farce is strong with this one. Enjoy a hilarious collection of Star Wars spoofs and parodies that have been created over the years, including outrageous clips from Family Guy, The Simpsons, How I Met Your Mother and more. And don’t miss “Weird Al” Yankovic’s one-of-a-kind music video tribute to The Phantom Menace.

My mom taped a VHS of Empire and Jedi off a movie channel when I was still in diapers, so by the time I could toddle around and talk a little I was already watching these. The 80's action figures are the first toys I remember owning.

I actually didn't even know about "A New Hope" until I was about 8 years old, and it didn't strike me as odd that they just throw you right into the story in Empire. I just thought it was normal.

These flicks (and Hulk Hogan) were my favorite thing in the world growing up.

After watching for close to 15 years, The Phantom Menace came out, and honestly when it first came out I liked it a lot. I didn't think it was on par with the originals, but I liked it a lot and was quite into it. I was anxious to see where Eps II and III would take the universe. I was 16, not as cynical, and in love with the SW universe and mythology, so I thought most of it was awesome. Jar Jar was annoying and Jake Lloyd had some annoying moments, but I loved Neeson and McGregor, Natalie Portman, Yoda, etc. Maul was cool, the saber fights were great and Duel of the Fates is arguably on par with anything in the whole SW universe in terms of music.

When AOTC came out I was 19, very cynical, but wanting to love the movie. I came out of it depressed. I tried so hard to squeeze joy out of it but the love story elements were cheesy, Hayden was not how I pictured Anakin at all, and there seemed to be less focus on cool aspects of the force and love and honor and brotherhood and more on politics, war, and CGI.

When Revenge of the Sith came out I was in full cynic mode, but still didn't hate the movie. I just found it underwhelming and it didn't redeem the series from the lackluster Ep II.

Over the years I regarded the PT with more and more disdain because the inconsistencies started piling up, GL started to bring the OT more in line with the PT by adding Hayden to Jedi, and I just felt like the whole thing should have been the sure-shot best thing to happen to cinema in the millennium, and it didn't live up to my lofy expectations at all.

Now, with even more time to reflect, I am ready to give the PT a chance, judge it on it's own merits and not strictly as a "prequel" to the OT, and I am actually looking forward to it. I am much better at shutting my brain off and enjoying things simply for their individual merits and not burdening them with expectations these days. I think I will enjoy the PT.

Nothing will ever replace the OT though, it defined my whole childhood.

Pretty much agreed on everything.

I just remember liking ROTJ on its own. I didn't watch much ANH or ESB when I was really little.

Hogan was a GOD in the 80's and early 90's.

I own the PT and watch them on occasion but the OT is pure magic.

I remember back in 2005 when I was 15, sitting in the cinema and then the screen shows "Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith". I was totally blown away by it and couldn't wait for the DVD to come out. For quite a long time I thought this was the best SW movie. But as the years passed by, the older I got, and the more I watched it, I saw all it's flaws. It's still a great movie, but it doesn't hold a candle on the OT imo. Funny how age can change opinions.

While I was waiting for the VHS release of the Special Editions to come out (man, when I got that golden colored box set, I treated it like real gold! ), I had some old recordings of the trilogy that I hadn't watched for years. One tape had RotJ, then TESB. The other tape had SW. I constructed a double VHS cover by stapling two together, and then decorated it with magazine scraps. I remember one of the images I taped onto the front was from TESB of Han, Leia, Threepio, and Chewbacca in the cockpit of the MF. I took so much time and care with that thing.

Odd. I was born in '85 and grew up with the OT.

I guess one of the main reasons why I don't idolize the OT is because I was born about 2 months after "Empire" came out, and I was almost 3 when "Jedi" hit theaters. I didn't grow up thinking these were the "next big revolution" of cinema. By the time I saw them, they were just really fun movies. I have no clue how often I watched the OT as a kid, but I know it was a lot. I wasn't thinking about how they were made, or what they meant to an industry I didn't then understand (or really care about). I was just along for the ride, taking a journey with my favorite heroes...and that attitude has largely remained with me as an adult. Even though I'm now interested in all the makings and such, when I watch a movie, that's not usually the biggest thing on my mind.

what difference does it make when you're born?

I was born in '94 and remember the first time I saw the OT.

Have you ever seen the OT?!

I started with ROTJ in the theater in 83, I had no idea what was going on or how they all got into their situations. But it blew my 10 year old mind, especially the end battles

Good times indeed.

Wow, that is 100% exactly my experience too. Only I was 13.

These are opinions I am very interested in.

It's impossible for me to unsee the films and view the OT without my rose-tinted glasses. I mean it's more than a movie for me, it was a part of my life in a lot of ways, so really the PT didn't have a chance in hell to supplant the originals.

With that in mind it's interesting to hear the perspective of people who saw the PT movies first, then went back to see what the fuss was all about, and still liked the originals better.

It's not to say that it's the norm, but it's definitely cool to see that it's not JUST my rose-tinted glasses making me love the OT more than the PT... there are others who've had a completely different introduction to the SW universe and have still come to the same conclusion as I have.

Hey guys I put the BBFC timings in with the contents list, to give everyone an idea what's in-store with the set. I've left off the gallery timings and the maquettes etc. If I've made any mistakes let me know. I'd imagine Beard Esquire will paste it onto the first page.
