That's what CGI is, a drawing.

But in the "old days", that's what matte paintings were as well.

But there's one thing about that shot that's strange. It looks to me like extreme lens distortion on the left side.

Yeah people complain about Highlander 2 been really bad but it isn't.... it's really really bad!

Over here in the UK we can't even get a decent version of the film (if one exists). Known a little bit about it's production we're lucky it wasn't even more bonkers!

I can't. The plot or story hasn't been changed. The characters haven't been altered. So people skilling the release because vader now says "No" have some serious issued beyond being Star Wars fans.

Went to see it in our old downtown theater the kind that has the triangular marqueue hanging off the front. 'Bout crap my pants when the Diagnoga came out of the Trash Compactor. But somehow the Cantina scene didn't bother me.

Then 3 years later, at the age of 6, went and saw TESB at our then new theater around the block, and 'bout shit myself when I first saw Yoda. Little green rat bastard scared the crap out of me.

And then don't even get me started about that long-necked big-noggined E.T. in '81.

But you gotta remember, prior to Star Wars, the public wasn't used to seeing realistic non-human aliens in films. Sure, Star Trek:TOS has aliens but you could tell that they were just people in make-up.

Anyway, to prepare for any ROTJ, I bought the comicbook adaptation before I saw the film. And good thing I did too, because I'm sure the Rancor would have had me running out of the theater.

Out of all films at the time, I think I enjoyed ROTJ the most as I think that was the first film that I went back to the theater to see multiple times. Saw it 3 times. I think it was because I liked all the new Imperial tech, such as the Lamda-Class Imperial shuttles, the speeder bikes, the AT-STs (which really got their screen time in this film) and of course Death Star II. Of course, the Moncalamari fleet with the MC-80 cruisers and the new Rebel fighters: B-wing and A-wings were cool too.

When the SEs came out in '97, I was 23. Loved the changes because I had seen some of the previews and so when watching the films, I was anxious to see them in full context. And then at the same time, I was disappointed that more of the saber and blaster fire effects weren't fixed.

So when the TPM came out in '99, I was 25, and for being the first new Star Wars film in 16 years, I liked it. However, after some post thought, the thing that began to no sit well, or at least, something that just didn't feel right, is that it just didn't feel like a Star Wars movie without Stormtroopers. But then again, we got the Clones in the next film, so I figured, "Well, here we go again...this is starting to look a lot more like Star Wars."

However, I think the CG-animated Clone Wars series has done more for Star Wars in the last 3 years than all the years since the films have been out. It has taken the focus off of the story of Anakin and shown us a lot more of the Star Wars universe, which is impossible to do during a 2.5 hour movie.
I totally agree with you. I was born a year before Return of the Jedi was released so it was actually the first Star Wars film I saw when I was 3 and to this day I find just as good as ANH. I too caught onto the new tech with the Imperials such as the Tie Interceptors, A-Wings, and B-Wings.

"If it isn't broke don't fix it." The scene was perfectly fine for 28 years. What does a NO do for that scene? Absolutely nothing so its a pointless change. Therefore it is a stupid one.

One side of me wants to watch it 1-6 leaving the best for last, the other side wants to put ANH in first just to see it in glorious High Definition.

It's 50/50 for me at the moment.

I'm kind of curious to watch the whole thing, 1-6, but I'm going to watch 4-6 first. The dramatic effect of what's revealed in ESB is softened quite a bit if you watch the prequels first, so original trilogy it is! Besides, the original trilogy is better in every perceivable away.

I'm going to do a trilogy a day starting with the PT, I've never actually watched them all in order. And recently I watched all the DVDs from 4-6 then 1-3 and I kind of felt I did it wrong.

I'll sit down with my kids and watch 1-6. I'm sure it will take a week or so, and I "edit" any intense parts for my youngest (8 yrs old) by either muting or she'll leave the room (like when Vader catches fire).

As one of my econ profs used to say 'there's always somebody on the margin'.

If the price went up or down by a couple bucks that wouldn't influence my decision to buy there are always people on the fence. This doesn't strike me as all that different.
