Definitely V - IV first. First impressions matter!
Start with Empire and end with A New Hope?

That's an interesting take on things

Wow, I really wasn't paying attention. Haha.

OT then PT works the best. If the PT was more like the OT, however, it might be the other way around.

I will watch them in order. I might even watch the special features in between each movie....

The climax will be "no....noooooooooooooo"!

That dude should come back and chime in.
As a curiosity (and, as a matter of fact, a contradiction of my above statement , I've actually tried a similar order: I've watched it as IV - I - II - V - III - VI. It actually worked kinda nice; sort of a Godfather Part II style storytelling. One thing I will say for that order - it makes a spectacular reveal of Leia being Luke's sister.

If I was going to accept the two trilogies as being intertwined, this would be my order of choice. It provides parallel storytelling, keeps the true beginning and end of the original trilogy, maintains most (not all) of the surprises, keeps Vader mysterious throughout ANH & TESB, and allows the final scene of RotJ to provide very strong emotional closure to both storylines.

Does anyone have scans of the box-art for the Complete Saga other than just the front cover?

I also wish the 1997 versions were available in some capacity. I grew up with the UOT on video but the 1997 versions were my first experience with SW on the big screen. It wasn't till the video release of the Special Editions that I noticed that Han didn't shoot first, but as a 10 year old it didn't bother me- because I got a slightly longer Star Wars out of it.

I'm old enough that calling Star Wars; "Star Wars: Episode IV- A New Hope" is unnatural to me. Those CBS/FOX tapes were Star Wars, The Empire Strikes Back, and Return of the Jedi. Same goes for ''Raiders of the Lost Ark".

I really like watching III and then IV in one sitting. I'll watch it I-VI. When I first got all of the DVDs, I watched IV,V,VI,I,II,III,IV,V,VI.

The proper order of watching these films is:
  • 4,5... 1,2,3... 6
Start with ANH and ESB. After the shocking Darth Vader reveal in ESB, we go into a flashback trilogy exploring his background. We finally conclude with RotJ, which is the proper film to wrap up the entire Skywalker saga.

It works for everybody. For the new viewer, it preserves (almost) all the plot twists in the OT that would otherwise be ruined by the PT. It also gets the 2 oldest films out of the way early, so that the dated special effects don't get overshadowed later on. For the repeat viewer, they benefit by having the 4 strongest films bookend the 2 weakest films. It's always best to start and finish strong.

(Ep.V) Change Darth Vader's line from 'You don't know how powerful the dark side can be.' to 'From my point of view, the Jedi are evil.' And add: 'It's over, Luke. I have the high ground.'
(Ep.V) Replace Han Solo's line 'I know.' with 'I love you even more.'
(Ep.V) Add some really cool shots of Yoda traing Luke in lightsaber battle. While we're at it, just get rid of the Yoda doll. It looks soooo fake.
(Ep.VI) Add a scene where Leia doesn't believe she is actually Luke's sister/Vader's daughter. Then have them run a Midichlorian count analysis to convince her.
(Ep.VI) Rework the 'ghost scene': Ewan McGregor replaces Sir Alec Guiness, also Ep.I Yoda will make a reappearance. Also, Qui-Gon and Palpatine will appear. Big group hug. Credits.
(Ep.VI) When Leia brings Han Solo out of Carbon-Freeze, and Han says "I can't see", have Leia respond with "that's because love has blinded you".
Your last one is all time. Hahahaha!

Have any new technical details emerged yet for the North American and/or Canadian release? Like dubbed tracks/Subtitles?

I don't understand why anyone would use dub tracks. I never have and never will. Original language of the film FTW and if you don't speak it then use subtitles.

I'm curious to see how a I, IV, II, V, III, VI, viewing would turn out.

Could be interesting to see the two stories intertwine.

The only reason I didn't try that with the order I mentioned is that I think IV works better as an introduction. But either way, I think the intertwining of the stories works quite well. I certainly like it better than a linear approach.

It's easy to say when you watch maybe a couple of foreign movies a year.

It's another thing when 98% of all the movies you want to watch are coming from another country and in a foreign language, and your relatives/friends don't understand a word while watching. It's hard to appreciate the usefulness of dubbed tracks when it doesn't affect you.

It was repported that the German release will have the dubbed track as the main lossless track with the original English in plain DD. I think that explains the reality of specific international markets really well. The studios wouldn't spend a dime on such tracks if they weren't needed.

Regards..

Why does everyone seem to forget that there is a second set of alterations to the Empire Trilogy.
1977/1980/1983 - Original Theatrical
1997 - First Special Edition
2000 - Second Special Edition
2004 - DVD Edition
2011 - Blu-Ray Edition

Trust me when I say the family/friends thing isn't exclusive to you non-USAers. Trying to get my family to watch a movie with subtitles is worse than pulling teeth. They always want the dub track.

I've hated the terms 'original' and 'prequel' trilogy for a long time. i've recently came up with a better way to describe and bridge the 2 as a singular story:
Republic Trilogy and Empire Trilogy

That's a good way to describe it. I'm going to start referring to them as that!!!

Not to beat a dead horse, but i was just watching The Phantom Menace and it's a very dark image. The Jedi robes in the opening scene become almost solid black, and can't distinguish between Obi-Wan's and Qui-Gon's.
I also checked out A New Hope again, and Luke's LightSaber is still very much green, and it's not a light / faint green either....
