Just started TPM, and trust me, it is NOT a DNR mess. Very little evident grain, but incredible detail.

The lightsabres in Empire are still shockingly inconsistent though.

Thanks Congrats on receiving it early.Must be the envy of this thread-apart from those who won't purchase it because of the SE

Yeah I know!! He came right from work and had them with him, and was taking them with him when he left. I get mine tomorrow! I should be back on to post my thoughts.

I have a question about the new Krayt dragon call and the "No... Noooooo!". Is it as badly mixed as the youtube videos suggest or do they sound more natural?

All I want to know is if they've managed to make the Han-Jabba scene in IV less clunky than it's been in the previous 'special edition' releases. Ideally I hope it's not there at all.

Is Vader's lightsaber still pink in Empire Strikes Back?

I've only looked at the Krayt call, I found it fine, but I didn't ever have an issue with it.

In the mix it goes through the surround from front to back imitating a travelling echo effect. I think it works well, although very high pitched for such an old man

You're right, the 2004 set suffered from the same music issues. It's been so many years since I watched my '97 SE's on LD, I can't remember if that mix was the same way?

Sometimes yes, sometimes no, but not as shocking pink as those screen grabs would have you believe. It looks fine, but varies in consistentcy throughout the fights, sometimes the core is white, other times it coloured. Sometimes it has a faint pink tint, other times it is full on red.

Put it this way, they didn't fix it

Lightsabres - PT amazing, in fact really bold and standout from what I have seen so far.

OT - Inconsistent as reported.

Menus, amazing, especially the little R2D2 with revolving head that appears when everything is loading.

I think we established it is supposed to be pink... to tie in with the "yippie", sand speeches, and the pansy "no, nooo's"

Alright, thanks man.

And what about when Luke is training in A New Hope? Is his lightsaber blue all the time, or is it fixed on that one scene only? I remember it was green on DVD.

Argh, I just don't get it, why they didn't fix those damn lightsabers.
I know they aren't the most serious mistakes in the movies, but can't say I'm happy with them.

The likes of Ewan McGreggor, Natalie Portman and Samuel L Jackson certainly acted much better in other films i.e. The Island, Leon and Die Hard 3. They certainly came off as wooden in alot of scenes, especially in the ones where emotion was required. However, I like them as actors so I really didn't mind - not having them in Star Wars would have been ashame.

I think that if all six films were to come out for the first time, say this year...then I think our opinions would be different.

By the way...to anyone that has seen TPM, would you say the DNR was as bad as people were trying to make out on this board? or are those screen caps of Natalie Portman a representation of most of the film? (pretty good)
No, Harrison Ford cannot be included in that list. He's great in ANH and TESB, but he gives the WORST performance in the entire saga in ROTJ. His delivery duty of "I hope she's alright," and his work in the Ewok village is embarrassing. Even back in 83 I quickly realized Ford was just collecting a paycheck. I'll take the performance of Jira, the fruit stand lady from TPM over ROTJ Ford.

If its any consolation, the PT matches the OT for audio mix. You kind of stop noticing after a while. The effects and vocals are amazingly clear. I think I am so ingrained with the music, I fill it in subconsciously when i can't hear it.

I only notice how quiet it is when I am listening for it.

I looked at that earlier, it was either strong blue or bright white. I couldn't notice any green tinting when it was just white, so perhaps I have everything calibrated the right way? Again, I am no expert.
