That exactly, but then in the next scene it has a white core, then in the scene after back to coloured. Totally inconsistent.

uhhh I thought the whole point was that they DID fix the lightsaber issues.
there was a whole article on the corrections they made due to people's complaints of the 2004 dvds.
are you saying Fox totally lied about all that?

Not totally, they definitely fixed the ones they said they had

I wonder if they were in a rush with this release, because that doesn't sound like a good job.
Or perhaps they were just lazy or didn't care.

Well, I'm sure they had to leave some mistakes in there to justify another blu-ray release in a few years.

I has been quite a while since they cared.

Yet, some think
...for some reason.

LOL!

As a Star Wars fan, I really don't understand the complaining about the lightsaber inconsistency colors. I wonder if these were the types of complaints that inspired George Lucas to start tampering with the original trilogy through out the years.

What a shame. To not fix the sabers in the only actual light saber battle in all of Empire, that just blows my mind. Is it like that for the entire battle, as Luke and Vader change locations?

Because it's a mastering issue, not an effects issue. It can usually be corrected by adjusting the contrast in the shot.

These were not issues UNTIL he tampered with them.

One good thing to note, the PT rip clips made the digital characters stand out a mile. They blend perfectly in the Blu ray. The only give away is in close ups when their skin texture looks fake (Jar Jar)

You can see what an outstanding job ILM did with regards lighting matches in the scene to the models.

Wow. So it seems like they fixed just the infamous frames and left the other '04 saber issues alone, yet told us this:

"Other issues we address: You know how things just look different when they go into HD or DVD, just by the nature of how the video treats the color space? A perfect example is in 2004 with the light sabers, how in the original trilogy all of the light sabers sort of dimmed, you lost that really hot, white core. Well, we went back and wanted to really be true to the original intention of the films, so we brightened up the light saber colors and we brought back that hot, white core that was original to the film."

They definitely can't claim the rushed excuse on this set. It's been seven years since the DVD release and six years since the last Star Wars film.

Positives: Not burned in subtitles (on TPM anyway) for the characters who don't speak in english. They appear on screen for the relevant translation, but change the language and they change with it.

You can have the commentary subtitles running while watching the film, without the commentary actually running.

Merlin,
So once again to be clear - the whole Holiday Special cartoon is an extra? How is the picture/audio quality of this Boba Fett cartoon? Better than the VHS looking image that we have all been used to?

I found 1 change in ROTS so far (might be the only one, though).

Quote:
As Obi-Wan leaves Mustafar, there is a shot of him sitting in the cockpit of Padme's Naboo skiff, with C-3PO sitting next to him. The next shot is of the badly burned Anakin trying to claw his way up the lava bank with his remaining prosthetic arm. In the theatrical version, these shots were separated by a wipe. In the DVD, it is a normal cut.
The Blu-ray has the wipe restored.

Yup, miles better. It plays in a window so has borders around the whole image, but the quality is great. Luke Skywalker animated is hilariously bad as is Han LOL.

I am clearly not getting away from this. One more hour of questions, I am happy to disc swap if needs be to get the answer. FIRE AWAY!!!!!

I reiterate as well, 45 minutes into TPM and DNR is not visible. The detail is outstanding, as are the wrinkles on Qui-Gon's face that miraculously disappeared on the notorious screen shot. I have looked at that exact moment, and it is not anything like the screenshot.

Bear in mind though I am no expert on this

Speaking of subtitles, are they in the picture or in the black bars?

I seriously doubt it. I don't recall anyone really complaining over technical issues in the movies in the '80's and '90's and the internet in '97 was nothing like what we have today. In addition, George Lucas clearly does what he wants. He doesn't seem to be a guy that lets outside complaints from fans and viewers, valid or invalid, affect his decisions. If he was influenced from the outside, the lightsabers would be flawless.
