Won't be buying this set, even though I'm a big Star Wars fan. I'll spend my money when I can get the unaltered original trilogy. I didn't buy the LOTR until the extended editions were released, and I won't have any problem waiting for this to be done right (assuming it ever is done right).

I have no problem with people buying this set if they are aware of what they're getting and are ok with it. What I don't understand are the people who aren't happy about what it contains, but are getting it anyway. How do you expect to get the product you really want if you keep voting with your wallet for the contrary?

Default The Original Star Wars (1977) Will Never be on Blu Ray

Lucas has already told us that he will not release Star Wars in the original unaltered version that some of us were fortunate to see in movie theaters. I saw this film 14 times in the theater and loved every minute of it. I don't mind the updated release that adds improved CGI but will never understand why Lucas won't release the original trilogy as seen in theaters for fans who want to own the original film.

I cancelled my pre-order for the Prequel Trilogy yesterday.

Decided to just hold on to my Revenge of the Sith DVD and hope for an eventual individual release

Still have the OT box set ordered. Can't wait to watch them come Friday

Can you confirm if it is region free?

I know the copies from UK say 'Region ABC', but I'm not too sure about the US version.

I don't really see how $80.00 is excessive. That's $13.00 a movie. And under $10.00 a disc.

And look how long it took for individual releases for the films last time. Might not happen until the 3-D versions.

You get nine blu-rays for $80. Thats $8.88 a disc! I'm really hoping that some place will drop below that price on release day.

If you were buying two or three movies, that would be fine. But when you're on a budget, yes $80, no matter what it is, will make your wallet cry.

To be fair... we've known about this release for ages. Even on a budget, people could have saved a lil here and there.

Beast, is that you?
I'm out of it for a little while and everyone's having delusions of grandeur.

But I paid $250 for the Laserdisc box set of Star Wars that came with the book with no slipcover. I went and bought another just so it would have that dust jacket.

$80? Come on, that's more than worth it. No brainer.

It's 6 movies, a complete saga. I'm going with the lithography from Target.

Hah! I have that set also. As well as the '97 Special Edition Laserdisc Boxset also.
So yeah, the price of Blu-ray is nothing when you used to buy Laserdiscs. Especially certain ones.

Hell, I paied more than that for Alien and Aliens on LD. And almost that much for The Abyss.

I have all 3 of those, they cost me $99.99 each, same with Akira collector's. I think the E.T. was $150.

I would pay $150 for this set as well. 6 movies? Come on. This and Citizen Kane and then October, Jurassic Park and Zombie 2? Great months for Blu Rays. The reward for watching Star Wars on blu ray will be more than you can imagine...

Are there any announcements for midnight sales yet? I'm going Target for now unless I get a midnight sale.

All of the Walmarts in my area are 24 hour stores. I'm sure they'll have it at midnight. I'm really hoping that they'll beat the Target price, but if not, you could always show them the Target price and get them to match it.

Well spoken! I have been waiting for the release of these movies in high definition for decades and consider myself fortunate to finally have the opportunity to own them. $80 is the icing on the cake.
