You know it's funny, when I first saw the changes I was really, really mad. I mean, I have been a Star Wars fan all my life (I'm 24 now). Went to Celebration V last year, listen to a weekly SW podcast, read a lot of the books, etc ,so I am a big fan of the series. So I guess when the movies are that close to your childhood, you hate seeing your nostalgia get screwed with.
But I must admit, I have cooled off, and ended up pre-ordering again (canceled originally the second I heard Vader say NO! in RoTJ), because I feel, that even with these minor, annoying changes, at the end of the day it's STILL Star Wars...and I will always be a fan. But anyways, about the set itself, thanks to the person who posted that unboxing, it looks gorgeous. I love that this SW set is similar to the wonderful Alien Anthology set that I own. |

Okay, i've just checked out my friend's complete blu-ray set (I personally cancelled my own order after seeing on youtube the addition of vader's nooooooooooooooo! at the end of ROTJ and the new krayt dragon call). With all the endless hype going on right now for pages and pages with very little new info or anything of any real value being added, I thought I'd add a bit of reality to the discussion of this set.
The original trilogy looks very nice with decent fine detail and a reasonable amount of grain, not reference by a long shot but nice, considering that they're based off old 2004 lowry masters. I don't see anybody being disappointed with these in terms of visuals. Of course they're still blue tinted like the 2004 dvds. I'm really glad that the original trilogy, classic films in their own right, unlike the enjoyable though somewhat mediocre prequel films, seem to have been given the respect they deserve and treated very well, at least in terms of picture quality. The Phantom Menace though is another matter entirely, with rampant DNR making everything and everybody look waxy and without any real definition. Qui Gon is particularly badly affected but everybody else has been affected to a greater or lesser extent. Those with already smooth faces like Anakin, Amidala and the CG characters are less affected while those with wrinkles, rougher skin texture and in particular facial hair are very badly affected, rendering faces and hair waxy and textureless. In terms of PQ its easily one of the worst blu-rays i've ever seen. How lucasfilm could have released the film in this state I don't know. I'll be checking out AOTC and ROTS tomorrow and i'll later post my thoughts on their PQ. Last edited by kingkong650; 09-10-2011 at 11:03 PM. |

![]() Really? Well that's disappointing. Hopefully II & III will look better. Edit: What did you think of the audio? Last edited by frogmort; 09-10-2011 at 10:50 PM. |

In the Clone Wars series it's made clear that Obi-Wan doesn't care about droids at all. They are tools, nothing more. Granted, he also doesn't have attachments like Anakin, as he was raised as a Jedi since birth as well. |

I believe that They're HIS FILMS.Yes, yes, they're an important part of pop culture and they mean something to all of us, but the bizarre sense of entitlement leading some fans to demonize Lucas for never being satisfied with his cinematic children is beyond me.They're HIS films. He can play with them all he wants until he's satisfied...heck, even if he's never satisfied. It's his universe; the audience just gets to visit it now and then.I don't need to preserve the Star Wars films; that childhood wonder lives on in my memory. And I will never be seven again, but as long as Lucas keeps Star Wars alive and keeps updating it to make it palatable to future generations, new seven year olds will keep falling in love with it. And THAT is the goal...not treating as sacred the memories of a graying fandom. They're HIS FILMS.

These 'this is the best the film has ever looked' or 'the picture and audio are an improvement over the DVD' comments don't make sense to me. How many Blu-rays look inferior to the DVD? I'm not saying there aren't exceptions, but the majority of the time, the Blu-rays are superior.

I am sure they will look and sound great! Will they be the greatest looking blu-rays ever made? I'm sure they won't. However, I am sure that as soon as they hit the streets, a small sect of contrarians will probably cry themselves to sleep over how George Lucas ruined their lives because the tint of Darth Vader's lightsaber will appear to them slightly different than they remember. Yet, that's what is great about Star Wars, you have tons of fans who just want to enjoy a movie, and of course you have the loud mouth minority who whined for 15 years for a new Star Wars movie, and then *****ed when they got it, and then whined for 10 years about the original trilogy on DVD, and then *****ed when they got it, so I have no doubt that those same people will hate something about this release and will continue whining until Lucas releases the UOT on blu-ray and then they'll complain about that. Sorry, I'll get off my soap box now. LOL
