As much as the newer editions get bashed there are good points to different issues. Such as many of the flight shots in EMPIRE's escape. You could always see the bad FX bleeding though and I never cared for the Ewoks song at the end of JEDI. I felt like the end of the 97 Edition worked better. So there are always Pros and Cons.

Even with all the discussion that the original elements are not in good condition and or just not available I don't believe, he would for sure keep good masters because you don't want to lose them.

I always admired how he was able to keep control of his films, but I will say this much if he didn't FOX would certainly have a huge say in what gets released there would be more editions available. He would never hold those kind of purse strings without his contract. He is one of the few lucky filmmakers.

In the end this message board is fine for discussion, and shouldn't be used to attack others just because you may be sick of hearing the opinions of others.
Sure there are good masters, but only ONE negative. And that was cut up and altered in doing the special editions. So, the original edit of the camera negative does not exist anymore. Could it be put back together? Maybe, but with missing frames. That's why non-anamorphic versions of the OT were released on DVD... there are no HD scans of the original negatives in their original edits left anymore.

My 'shot in the dark' guess about the video quality ratings are:

I - 3.5/5
II - 4/5
III - 4.5/5
IV - 4/5
V - 4.5/5
VI - 4.5/5

If there is no UOT on blu than i am fine with that i can accept it.

We all need to look to what the future holds for Star Wars.

There will probably be more tweaks and enhancements in the future. When who knows???

I was actually guessing what Casey Broadwater will rate them at when he reviews the set, so nobody but him can persuade me.

I really hope I'm wrong, and they are all reference quality.

It's 1:00AM on the 11th in the U.K. right now. Only 23 hours from the release date over there, and still no reviews? I have scoured the internet for any new news, but can't find anything.

Rumours are now circulating that, in addition to the changes, and subpar transfers (particularly on TPM) there are actually playback issues on Panasonic, Sony and OPPO players.

Can this thing get any worse?!?

I would hope they are going to be good, but I guess I am just setting myself up. The DNR on Episode 1 scares the heck out of me.

Hope I guess is a good thing, right?

Kind of funny, after the DNR reveal I wrote a post about "What's next? The special features discs won't even play on the PS3 or BDP-S360?". I discarded the post, but looks like I still jinxed us.

Imagine that....

It is probably because of the Media Director THX thing.

The issue is likely the same thing effecting the X-Men: First Class release.

Best thing to do is disable your Internet Connection before popping the discs in.

If that doesn't work, delete the BD Data Utility stuff. It solved the XFC playback issues.

If that would be correct, I'd be happy enough. I really only care for the OT and probably end up purchasing the complete collection mainly because of the extras.
