Thanks for hint.Don't know what the big deal is about it though. Many an artist has to some degree gone down that road, kubrick to name one.If it's done to excess, then I agree (Orange faces is not very attractive now is it),but it gives the directors a new tool.Like many tools, they can and do get missused

Teal Shift is exactly that, all the once wonderful vibrant colours take leave of their senses and move to Teal. It has quite a population now.

In otherwords when making the Blu the engineers shifted the colours towards the teal end of the spectrum. Think of The Matrix, when the characters are in the Matrix there's a green tint. With a Teal Shift it's the same kind of thing but it doesn't really represent part of the movies narrative.

Look at the pictures below one is shifted towards the red the other blue. Filmmakers can make a scene seem hot or colder by just changing the colour of a shot. Teal Shift just seems to be for fun though.

Correct.

And like I mentioned, they are now re-grading older movies with this too.

Still, its nowhere near as bad as FOTR EE, thankfully.

Wicket blinking was a little weird, but it was subtle enough it wasn't too distracting. I'll easily get used to it. I didnt really notice any other Ewoks blinking, which was kinda strange.

The new CG Yoda in Episode I is far better than the puppet, a very welcome change.

The whole thing with Vader's "no" and Obi-Wan's new dragon call has been really overblown. With the full surround sound mix playing, they didn't bug me at all. These changes should in no way sway anyone from getting the set, they still feel like the same movies. They look and especially sound awesome.

My new favorite Blu-ray set.
Great review. I especially applaud the part I bolded, italicized, and underlined. People are missing out on good films by judging the changes so harshly. Some of them are less than good, but these are still great films and adventures.

He just believed in the technology. Someone had to be first and RED was a ways away. He just wanted to do it and it probably helped advance the technology faster than if the last two prequels were shot on film.

Teal is a specific color. It is a darker shade of Cyan:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cyan

Don't worry. It took about two seconds in Photoshop.

As for Mahatma's question, you can fiddle with it a bit but there's only so far you can go. I'm not an expert but I assume any colour can be shifted towards the teal flavour.

The shift to teal and orange is supposed to make the picture "pop" more due to the contrast. It is used a lot these days and it can be distracting if you're aware of it.

It is very noticable in Michael Bay's Transformers movies. Flesh tones appear orange and it just doesn't look natural, IMO.

Yet, despite this happening on MANY movies (now on Attack of the Clones) these days, some people still refuse to believe it was done intentionally on FOTR EE Blu-ray. lol

For those who have 7.1 setups- Will you be watching it in discrete 6.1 or apply Dolby Pro Logic IIx or something?

Ah, okay. So he was pioneering the new technology then. Sounds like something George Lucas would do and I mean that in the best possible way. After all, he did exactly the same thing with the Original Trilogy and revolutionised the special effects industry. Cheers for the explanation!

Laughing to myself! As I was reading this thread, I've started a Blu-ray running -- the Fincher film Seven -- and guess what?! It's teal and orange!! In pretty much every single shot. Much more than I remember from the last time I saw it on DVD, certainly.

What *is* this craze? Is it the current fad visual coding for dystopia or post-modern irony, or somesuch?

I'll be very disappointed if the skies of Tatooine are that murky, industrial-smog, gun-metal green like in the AVS samples, when I finally get to see them for myself.
